Three basic options are available IQ4-PC-R0 (no relays), IQ4-PC-R1 (1 relay), IQ4-PC-R2 (2 relays). Standard relay contacts are 5A SPDT with gold flashed contacts. This makes them suitable for both power switching or low level signalling. Supply voltage options are 230V 50/60Hz, 115V 50/60Hz, and 24V DC isolated (all ± 15%). Standard process inputs are 0/4-20mA, 0/1-5V, or 0/2-10V, although other input options are available to special order. Other options include an unregulated, current limited, 24VDC power supply for loop excitation, and an isolated 0/4-20mA retransmission signal. This manual describes a 0/4~20mA input however all the information is applicable to any other input. Please check the label on the instrument to see which options are fitted when using this manual
IQ4-PC Setting Notes Changing the settings (Programming Mode) In the centre of this manual is a table listing all the available options and how to select them. The key is used to enter the programming mode and accept changes. The and keys step up and down through the menu options and increase or decrease setting values. This instrument will exit programming mode automatically if no keys are pressed for 30 seconds. Any changes which have been made up till this point will be used as the new values. Factory/User Defaults There are two sets of default values, factory defaults and user defaults. Both sets of defaults are identical for a new instrument. After an instrument has been configured to a user s satisfaction all the selected values may be stored as user defaults. (See advanced settings). Most problems with the use of this unit arise from incorrect programming of the various options. Sometimes it is easier to start again rather than try to check every option. For this reason there is an option to reset to the user defaults. Press to enter programming mode - display will read Prog. Press until the display reads rest. Press and display will read ConF asking for confirmation of reset. To confirm reset press and simultaneously and hold. After a few seconds the decimal points will light and the display will return to normal. Release buttons. Any other action will abort the reset. The user defaults may be overwritten with the factory defaults at any time. (See advanced settings). Security Features To prevent unauthorised changes of settings, there are two levels of security options. These are low level security features only and are activated by a series of keystrokes which are difficult to guess or enter accidentally. Full/Reduced Menu This option can be used to restrict access to the important settings (such as calibration) but allows the user to change the relay set points. Menu Lock/Unlock This option allows access to the menu to view settings but not change them. This may be set with either full or reduced menu mode. Application Note 3 This diagram shows how a 4 wire transmitter may be powered from an indicator with the -PSO option. It is important to ensure that the transmitter supply current requirement is less than the rating of the indicator. In this diagram the retransmit option (-RT) is a voltage output instead of current. This is not a common option but is available to special order and is usually 0/1-5V or 0/2-10V
Application note 2 This diagram shows how the on-board power supply (-PSI) option is used to power a three wire transmitter. The 0/4-20mA retransmit (-RT option) is shown sinking from a 4-20mA instrument using the instrument s 24V supply. This could also be a separate power supply. The retransmit can drive a load up to 750 ohms from a 24V supply but this decreases if the power supply voltage is lower. Setting signal input range (CAL.0 and CAL.S) The input may be configured for 0-20mA or 4-20mA using the CAL.0 and CAL.S options from the menu. For 0-20mA the settings are CAL.0 = 0.00 and CAL.S = For 4-20mA the settings are CAL.0 = 4.00 and CAL.S =16.00 ( ) Setting display to match process variable (OFSt, SPAn, and deci) Process signals such as 4-20mA may be used to represent many different process values. This indicator may be programmed to display the process signal within the range -999 to 9999 with the decimal positioned where required. Example. To set the display to read to (Offset = -50.0, Span = 200.0) Set OFSt to -500 (will be 50.0 after the decimal is set) Set SPAn to 2000 (will be after the decimal is set) Set deci to Changing the OFSt or SPAn setting resets the relay high (Hi 1, Hi 2) and relay low (Lo 1, Lo 2) settings to disabled (disa). Set these options before setting the relays. Setting Retransmit Output (rt.os and rt.sp) The retransmit output can be programmed to operate over any part of the calibrated range of the instrument. Example. The instrument is calibrated to display 0~100.0 for a 4~20mA input but we wish to retransmit 4~20mA to represent 20.0 ~ (Offset = 20.0, Span = 60.0). Set rt.os to 20.0 Set rt.sp to 80.0 This setting uses the displayed value and cannot be adjusted outside the range of the instrument. This setting can therefore be used for scale expansion but not compression. Bear in mind that the output resolution is only as good as the input resolution. Making the span very small can cause the retransmission signal to respond in a jerky or uneven manner. Fault and error messages (indi) Depending on the status of the indi setting (see programming table), the instrument may display one or more of the following error messages from time to time. The display flashes between the error message and the signal level. The signal is higher than the relay 1 high setting. The signal is lower than the relay 1 low setting. The signal is higher than the relay 2 high setting. The signal is lower than the relay 2 low setting. The signal is above or below the relay 1 settings but the relay is being held(in or out depending on rea.1) by the start up delay. The signal is above or below the relay 2 settings but the relay is being held (in or out depending on rea.2) by the start up delay. The signal is more than 3% above the upper calibration point of the instrument. The signal is more than 3% below the lower calibration point of the instrument. is not disabled by the indi - off setting
Relay Operation In normal operation the IQ4-PC is designed to run with both relays energised. Relays de-energise on a fault condition. (This can be reversed using the rea option.) Hi 1, Hi 2 - High setting The relay high setting sets a point above which the relay is de-energised. This may be disabled by setting this option to disa. This is the setting normally used when turning something off when the measured signal is too high (eg. heating elements). Lo 1, Lo 2 - Low setting The relay low setting sets a point below which the relay is de-energised. This may be disabled by setting this option to disa. This is the setting normally used when turning something off when the measured signal is too low (eg. refrigeration). The use of both high and low settings allows a window to be set. Within the window limits the relay is energised. red.1, red.2 - Delay operation This setting delays relay operation when the measured signal changes from a normal to a fault condition. This is useful for the prevention of spurious alarms and trips when the measured signal is erratic eg. vibration monitoring. This value is the same for both Hi and Lo settings. HyS.1, Hys.2 - Hysteresis When the relay has de-energised because of a fault condition, relay hysteresis prevents the relay from energising again until the measured signal has returned to normal and has dropped by this amount below the set point. Setting this value greater than the Hi or Lo values prevents the relay from energising again once a fault has occurred unless the instrument is switched off and on again. This value is the same for both Hi and Lo settings. Hysteresis operates when going from a fault to a normal condition. rea.1, rea.2 - Relay action Changing the Relay Action setting from energised (EnEr) to de-energised (de.en) reverses the relay action. This is the recommended mode when things have to be switched on in a fault condition eg. chemical dosing. This setting affects all the previous relay options as well as the startup delay. Std.1, Std.2 - Startup Delay When the instrument is first switched on the relay is held energised for the period set in this register (0~100secs). Each relay is configured separately. The relay action may be more easily understood by referring to the diagrams below. The red bar indicates when the relay is energised. Application Note 1 The following diagram shows how the on-board 24V power supply (-PSI option) is used to power a two wire loop powered transmitter. The 0/4-20mA retransmit (-RT option) is shown sourcing into a 4-20mA instrument using the on-board 24V supply. The retransmit can drive a load up to 750 ohms. Special retransmit outputs like 0-1mA and 1-5mA are available to special order. Note that the retransmit is isolated from the input and the two 24V power supplies are totally independent of each other. Both 24V power supplies are smoothed but unregulated and are current limited at approximately 25mA
Advanced Settings Saving User Defaults Press to enter programming mode - display will read Prog. Press or until the display reads rest. Press and display will read ConF asking for confirmation of reset. Press and simultaneously and hold. After a few seconds the top segment bars will light and the display will return to normal. Release buttons. The current values will now become the user defaults and will be restored whenever a reset is performed. Overwriting User Defaults with Factory Defaults Press to enter programming mode - display will read Prog. Press or until the display reads rest. Press and display will read ConF asking for confirmation of reset. Press and simultaneously and hold. After a few seconds the bottom segment bars will light and the display will return to normal. Release buttons. The factory default values will now become the user defaults and will be restored whenever a reset is performed. Connections The diagrams below shows the rear view of the terminals for the IQ4-PC-R2 with PSI24 option (left) and PSO24 option (right) on pins 9 & 10 (otherwise 9 & 10 are not used). For the PSI option the negative side of the 24V is common to pin 2. Normal Relay Action (EnEr) Reversed Relay Action (de.en) Not all these options are fitted on every instrument. Check the connection diagram on the instrument to see which options are available. The latch is only available on units with relays. When pin 2 is connected to pin 10, both relays remain latched in a fault condition after the fault is removed. Breaking the link (use a N/C contact) returns the relays to normal (providing the fault condition no longer exists)
Programming table for Model IQ4-PC-R2 - Highlighted options are only available on the full menu. Relay 2 options are not available on model IQ4-PC-R1. Relay 1 & 2 options are not available on model IQ4-PC-R0. To enter programming mode press. Display will read Prog. Then use or to get to the option required.
