2 Sony nas made an important addition to its professional VTR product range with the introduction of the SVO-9620, S-VHS Hi-Fi videocassette recorder. The SVO-9620 inherits the Sony professional VTR concept mechanical reliability, rigid construction, easy operation, 19-inch rack mount capability to ensure dependable and stable operation in the industrial and professional environment. The SVO-9620 records on the PAL system and features dual standard PAL/NTSC4.4 playback, allowing it to accept a wide variety of video software from around the world. The SVO-9620 is designed as a multi-purpose VTR, with a range of three optional interface boards available for specific purposes. These boards provide Sony 33-pin, RS-232C and RS-422A interfacing. By selecting the appropriate optional board, the SVO-9620 can serve as a dedicated machine for a particular purpose such as in an interactive system, for satellite recording, office viewing, visual presentation, video library, simple duplication, sports analysis, simple cut editing and many other applications. In addition, optional features such as digital clear freeze, a digital noise reducer and an SMPTE/EBU time code generator/reader make the SVO-9620 even more versatile. 3 LJ. 39-7, '. i. FEATURES HIGH PICTURE AND SOUND QUALITY S-VHS Format The SVO-9620 uses the S-VHS format to provide superb colour picture with a resolution of 400 TV lines. It incorporates a wider video track width for stable picture reproduction. HIGH RELIABILITY Reliable Mechanism Careful attention has been paid to ensure high durability and reliability of the SVO A rigid aluminum chassis and head drum are examples of the care taken to ensure the highly stable operation of the SVO PAL/NTSC4.43 Dual Standard Playback The SVO-9620 records on the PAL system with dual standard,pal/ntsc4.43, playback. Cross Talk Canceller The SVO-9620 incorporates a newly developed video cross talk canceller. It eliminates colour blur in the vertical direction, and provides more accurate colour and sharper images. Digital Y/C Separator The SVO-9620 ensures high quality recording, even with composite signals. It incorporates a newly developed Digital Y/C Separator which maintains picture quality in composite recording. As a result, dot interference and cross colour are reduced. Four Channel Audio Recording System The SVO-9620 incorporates a four-channel audio recording system to cater for a wide range of applications. Two channels use Hi-Fi (AFM) tracks and two use normal longitudinal tracks. The Hi-Fi mode provides a superb 90 db dynamic range and a wide frequency response for high quality sound reproduction. A Hi-Fi recording ON/OFF mode is also provided to optimize video performance. An individual record level control is provided for each of the four audio channels. Quick Response Mechanism Outstanding operational performance comes from the Sony tape transport system. The SVO-9620 has separate direct drive reel motors for the supply and the take up sides. These provide rapid response and smooth operations, with mode transitions such as STOP to REC, FAST FWD to PLAY, STOP to REWIND being virtually instantaneous. Auto Head Cleaner Each time a cassette is loaded or ejected, a cleaning roller automatically passes over the video/fm audio (rotary) heads, removing tape residue and providing preventive care of the tape heads. CONVENIENT FEATURES & FUNCTIONS VTR Mode Setting Menu To provide efficient operation, a VTR mode setting menu is incorporated in the SVO-9620 allowing a variety of customized VTR mode operations. The MENU incorporates modes such as Long Pause Time, Sensor Recording ON/OFF, Digital CNR ON/OFF*, Digital YNR ON/OFF*, etc. Menus are displayed on an LED display. * These modes are displayed only when the SVBK-150 option is installed. Search Dial Picture search can be operated with the search dial of the SVO Recognizable colour pictures over a range of -10 to +10 times normal speed are provided in the search mode. This facility allows any desired point in the tape to be quickly located. When the optional SVRM-100 Remote Control Unit is used, frame by frame picture search is available with the JOG dial.

4 Programmed Operation Two types of programmed operations can be selected. By selecting the ^ mode, a tape segment defined with the MARK IN A and MARK IN В buttons is repeatedly played back. By selecting the A mode, the tape automatically stops at the point designated by MARK IN A. Timer REC & PLAY Function By selecting the TIMER switch to TIMER either REC or PLAY in the menu, the SVO-9620 automatically executes the selected mode when the power is turned on. This function is useful for unattended operation, such as satellite recording. Sensor Recording Function In addition to the Timer REC function, the SVO-9620 incorporates a Sensor Recording capability. When video signals are input to the SVO-9620, the VTR automatically starts recording. Sensor recording mode ON/OFF is selected in the menu. Audio Dubbing Function Additional audio, such as music or narration, can be easily added to a videocassette which already has video signals on it by simply pressing the DUB and PLAY buttons simultaneously. This additional audio is recorded on one of the two normal audio tracks. Error Code Indication When the SVO-9620 encounters a technical problem, an appropriate error code from the comprehensive range of messages is shown on the LED display. Real Time Counter The LED display shows real time in hours, minutes and seconds to indicate accurate tape running time. Optional Remote Control Units The PLAY/REC/STOP/F FWD/ REW/PAUSE/FWD SEARCIT/REW SEARCH*/ EJECT* modes can be entered from the optional Remote Control Unit SVRM-100 or RM-V200 plugged into the REMOTE connector on the front panel. In addition, the SVRM-100 includes a JOG/SHUTTLE dial for quick and precise picture search. * Functions available only on the RM-V200 S-VIDEO IN/OUT Connector (4-pin DIN) The SVO-9620 is equipped with S-VIDEO S VIDEO IN IN/OUT connectors which carry separate Y (luminance) and С (chrominance) signals. This reduces picture deterioration due to cross colour and dot interference, during signal transmission. For secure connections, Sony employs a locking connector which is compatible with current S-VIDEO connectors and cables. External SYNC IN Connector Synchronization with other video sources is possible through the external SYNC IN connector. 4-Channel Audio Connectors The SVO-9620 is fitted with Audio IN/OUT connectors interfacing with its four audio recording tracks. One pair uses the Hi-Fi (AFM) recording system and the second the normal longitudinal recording system. 8-pin TV Connector An 8-pin Audio/Video connector is incorporated into the SVO This simplifies cable connection to a TV monitor. Tilt-up Front Panel The control panel of the SVO-9620 can be slanted at 30, 60 or 90 degrees for operational convenience. MINUTES / SECONDS RESET 19-inch EIA Standard Rack Mountable With the optional Rack Mount Kit RMM-980, the SVO-9620 can be installed into a 19-inch EIA standard rack.

5 OPTIONAL INTERFACES 33-pin Interface Board SVBK-100 When the SVBK pin Interface Board is installed, the SVO-9620 is provided with a 33-pin parallel remote interface capability to allow remote control of basic VTR functions. OPTIONAL BOARDS Digital Noise Reducer Board SVBK-150 The SVBK-150 Digital Noise Reducer Board reduces both Y (luminance) and С (chrominance) noise with its separate YNR and CNR noise reducers, thus providing superior picture quality. A field memory incorporated into the SVBK-150 removes jitter to give stable, sharp images. This field memory also enables a newly developed digital Drop Out Compensator to be included which replaces a signal drop out with information from the previous field. In addition, the SVBK-150 provides clear and crisp field still images. Computer Interface Board SVBK-120 (RS-232C) The SVBK-120 Computer Interface Board provides an RS-232C interface. This interface allows the SVO-9620 to be directly connected to, and controlled from, an external computer. Time Code Board SVBK-160 The Time Code Board SVBK-160 attaches to the SVBK-140 RS-422A Interface Board. The SVO-9620 can record and read SMPTE/EBU time code when this Time Code Board is used. Time code is recorded on one of the two normal audio tracks. RS-422A Interface Board SVBK-140 (9-pin REMOTE) By installing the SVBK-140, the SVO-9620 is equipped with a 9-pin REMOTE (RS-422A) interface for integration with a Sony 9-pin based control system. When used with the SVBK-160 Time Code Board, this combination allows the SVO-9620 to be operated in time code based applications.
