3 Entertainment & Technology Wearable Technology Is Starting To Trend Wearable technology got some traction in the marketplace last year. With the introduction of Smart Watches and Google Glass, this new technology is set to evolve the way we communicate and entertain. Consumers have begun to embrace the new technology by purchasing wearable devices that make their life easier and more efficient. From Google Glass hightech vision wear offering head mounted computing, to miniature gadgets and devices embedded in our clothing, the new technologies will change the way we live in the near future. Even now, have fitness devices that monitor your health along with augmented information that will tell you what s around nearby. You will see this technology become commonplace in the next few years. Video Communications Are Coming Of Age Video communications has grown exponentially in the last couple of years. With the use of services like Skype and Facetime, people are keeping in touch with the use of video. It is believed that over one in five people frequently telecommute to their work place. But what if you could be at work if only in a digital presence? Well your dreams are becoming a reality. A new technology called holographic telepresence is now being used. It involves transmitting a threedimensional moving image of you to the recipeint you are communicating. This will allow you to converse with people as if you were in the room with them. An IBM survey of 3,000 researchers named holographic video calls as one technology they expect to see in place real soon. Beam me up Scotty! Military Channel Changes to American Heroes Channel Discovery announced it is renaming Military Channel (digimax channel 90) to American Heroes Channel (AHC) on March 3, AHC will continue showcasing Military Channel programming and also expand on more history-based, narrative style documentary programming. AHC s first year will include 17 new series and specials, with these four original series and specials launching in the first week: RAW War reveals an unknown chapter of the Vietnam War through personal stories behind newly discovered footage. Against The Odds is a new series of awe-inspiring stories of strength on the battlefield. It s a real-life Band of Brothers. 6 In Our Community MES Fundraiser Get out for some good food and fun at the Marseilles Elementary School Culver s Night. The fundraiser will run from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at the Culver s Restaurant in Ottawa. All proceeds will benefit the school s Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) Program. Pork Roast Dinner The Marseilles Nursing Service will hold its Annual Pork Roast Dinner Saturday, March 22, 2014 from 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the American Legion. Proceeds to benefit the Marseilles Nursing Service. Menu includes roast and all the trimmings and dessert bar with coffee. Tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for kids. Tickets available at Marseilles Nursing Service or call Come Join us for a great time! Gather the young ones on Tuesdays and visit the Marseilles Library for. A library staff member and one parent lead one of three activities each week: seasonal crafts; watch a movie; play board games. Its a fun time for the kids and it gives the parents a break! Game and craft days are 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., and movie days are 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. A snack is provided with each program. This program is geared for elementary-aged children. Kindergarten Registration A Phone-In Kindergarten pre-registration for the school year will be held the week of March 17-20, Please phone the Marseilles Elementary School Office at between 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Any child who is five years old, or who will turn five on or before September 1, 2014, and is a resident of the city of Marseilles, can be enrolled in Kindergarten. You may also visit the school s website at www. mes150.org and download the Kindergarten Pre- Registration Form. Friday Fish Fry s The following items will need to be brought to the school the week of March 17-20: Original Birth Certificate from the County Clerk s office at the County in which the child was born in (not the keepsake certificate issued by the hospital). Two proofs of residence: Lease, mortgage payment receipt, current tax bill, current utility bill. A Physical Exam and Immunization record and Vision and Dental Examinations are required the first day of school in August. If your Kindergarten eligible child is currently enrolled in our Pre-School Program, a registration packet will be sent home with the child in May. If your preschool student will be attending a school other than Marseilles Elementary this fall, please notify the school s office in writing immediately. The will be holding Fish Fry s every Friday starting March 7, 2014 and running through April 18. Dinner will be served from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
