6 PART 3: INSTALLATION 1. FIBER OPTIC CABLE All fiber terminations will be LC. Entrance fiber: Provide (48) strands of Multimode OM4 fiber optic cable and (48) strands of Single mode fiber optic cable from Richland Hall room 101 and the MDF, located in room 016. Riser fiber: Provide (24) strands of Multimode OM4 fiber optic cable and (24) strands of Single mode fiber optic cable from the MDF (room 016) to the IDF for each floor. Classroom cabinets: Provide (6) strands of Multimode OM4 fiber optic cable from each classroom cabinet (as indicated on the drawings) to the MDF/IDF for that floor, and (6) strands of multimode OM4 from room 136 to the IDF. Fiber optic cable runs through the cable tray must use plenum rated cable. 2. STATION JACK INSTALLATION FLUSH MOUNT Station jacks will be installed on the wall in an electrical outlet box or in an MP-2 type caddy as specified on the drawings. Use existing boxes installed by the general contractor. 3. HORIZONTAL CABLE All cable runs installed will be continuous without splices, bridges or any other connecting device between origination and termination points, except for runs through buried conduit to outdoor locations. Bridge points for burial cable must be identified and approved through MTC Project Manager prior to installation. All terminations in patch panels and punch down blocks will be done in a sequential manner based on room and will comply with all EIA/TIA 568-A specifications. A detailed punch list will be provide for all terminations.

7 The contractor will provide a 4-pair Category 6 cable from the appropriate MDF or IDF closet to each Category 6 modular jack as indicated on the drawings. Each cable will be labeled with the unique destination room number 4 to 12 from the end of the termination point in the telecommunications closet. Cables will be terminated in a CAT 6, 568A patch panel as specified in this document. 4. CABLE INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS All cable installation and termination must comply with the provisions in TIA/EIA 568-A. The Contractor will submit a sample of assembled cable, connectors, raceway and accompanying specification sheets prior to installation for approval of quality, workmanship and materials. For all Category 6 cabling, maintain cable twist-rate at all termination points. The amount of cable untwist will be no more than 1/2. Do not strip back the cable jacket any more than is necessary to terminate the individual conductors. All 110 connections will be installed using a single 110 punch down tool and all terminations will be trimmed flush with connector blocks. Leave enough cable (approximately 1 foot at the workstation & 3 feet at the backboard or rack, unless specified elsewhere in this document) to allow easy termination of the cable. Install or use existing vertical cable management panels for all floor-mounted racks. Do not install horizontal cable management trays in the racks. All vertical drops of cable in rooms will be inside the walls except where specifically noted on drawings. Any exceptions to this must be submitted in writing to the MTC Project Manager five working days prior to scheduled date and will be subject to MTC approval. Horizontal cable that runs outside the walls will be installed in Mediatrax. Cable runs in hallways and corridors will be bundled neatly together; use cable trays where available. Tie wraps and J-hooks may be used to keep cables together. All plastic type molding, conduit, cable trays and raceways must be anchored to the wall with the appropriate type of wall screw and bracket every five (5) feet. All changes in cable direction will be at 90 degrees. All penetrations will be sleeved and fire stopped in accordance with National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) and Standard Building codes. Fire stop material must be UL listed. Cables will not be tie wrapped to electrical or gas lines.

8 D-rings will be provided and mounted to route the horizontal cables at the backboard locations. Enough cable slack will be provided to neatly route the horizontal cable through D rings to the appropriate 110 type block. No circuit will be run in the same conduit or raceway with power conductor. Installation of the cable will be in accordance with the marked floor plan. All deviations to the cable route will be submitted in writing to the MTC Project Manager five working days prior to scheduled date and will be subject to approval by MTC. For classrooms in which a backboard is mounted, all drops designated as classroom drops will terminate in a CAT6 patch panel installed in this cabinet (Contractor to provide, specified above). Note that a number of drops in each room are designated for home runs to the MDF/IDF. For each drop marked on the floor plan, multiple cable counts will be noted with a number. Typical counts per location are as follows: o Standard wall drops: (2) CAT6 cables/jacks, black jack color o Classroom wall drops: typically (2-4) CAT6 cables/jacks, green jack color o Floor boxes: typically (4) CAT6 cables/jacks, black jack color. Please take note of counts to floor boxes on the main library open areas on second and third floors cable counts vary and some boxes will be completely unused. o 44 high emergency/courtesy telephones: (1) CAT6 cable/jack, black jack color o IP cameras: (2) CAT6 cables/jacks per outdoor camera, (1) cable/jack per indoor camera, black jack color o Classroom wireless access points: (3) CAT6 cable/jacks, black jack color o Hallway wireless access points: (1) CAT6 cable/jack, black jack color o Outdoor emergency callboxes: (2) CAT6 cables/jacks, plus (1) shielded 24 AWG stranded single pair cable for 24V electrical power. Burial grade cable must be used. Cable routing will follow the dictates of the design while avoiding locations of high RFI/EMI radiation or adverse environmental conditions. 5. CABLE TESTING a. Contractor will provide all necessary testing equipment to test all cables. Testing will be performed immediately following the completion of all pulls and terminations.

9 i. Each Category 6 cable terminating in a station jack will be tested from the telecommunications closet with a 4-pair wire tester. The tester will verify continuity, faults, reversals, swaps and pairing. ii. Each Category 6 cable link will also be tested for near-end and far-end crosstalk and attenuation up to and including 300 Mhz and will be verified for acceptable length and proper wire map, in accordance with TSB-67. iii. Each fiber strand including connectors will be tested from end-to-end to measure the total loss or attenuation. Losses on terminated fibers will meet or exceed all EIA/TIA 568 specifications. iv. A hard copy of the test results for each cable run will be provided to MTC. Acceptable test results will be agreed upon by MTC Project Manager and Contractor prior to testing. It is the Contractor s responsibility to replace, repair, re-terminate, or modify any cable run which tests outside the agreed-upon ranges, in such a manner as to be acceptable to MTC. b. Before the system is accepted by MTC, the Contractor will be required to walkthrough the installation with the MTC Project Manager and Network Team members and verify proper installation and conformance to specifications, drawings, and other agreed upon, written details. All cable-related documentation and As-Built Drawings will also be required for review purposes at this time.
