Carry out some last checks and make sure that your router is connected to the power supply, switched on and plugged to your telephone line and connected to your set top box. your set-top box is connected to the power supply and your television set. Optimise the quality of digital TV In order to guarantee the best of performance, we recommend that your set-top box is in standby mode when you are not watching TV by P&T. 4 Prior to starting

Please refer to page 5 using the remote control for detailed instructions on how to use this device. You will be guided through the TV menus intuitively. 11 PNT10133-GUIDE_ENG_G:PNT10133-GUIDE_ENG 5/11/08 15:58 Page 11 Cabling diagram English analogue audio outlet Dolby sound-system outlet Ports 3 and 4 on the router are for connecting the set-top box Set-top box and television set scart or HDMI connection The TV service is based on a telephone line with DSL service. The connection between the router and the set top box depends on the technical feasability, you either need a CAT6 Ethernet cable or a powerline system. You can also use the existing coaxial/telephone cable by using additional dedicated equipment. Important! Ports 3 and 4 on the router are only for connecting the set-top box. Connecting other IT equipment may disturb the TV service. The set-top box is connected to the television set by a scart cable or HDMI cable (not supplied). The RGB outlets may be used instead of the scart socket if your TV set does not have a scart connection. In addition to the scart and HDMI cables which transfer the sound signal to the television set, the set-top box is also fitted with a further two audio outlets. There is a left and right analogue audio outlet for connecting to an analogue amplifier and a digital outlet (SPDIF) for connecting to a Dolby surround system. 12 PNT10133-GUIDE_ENG_G:PNT10133-GUIDE_ENG 5/11/08 15:58 Page 12 Starting the Television Service Switch on your TV set, switch on the set-top box by pressing the On/Off button on the remote control and if the television does not automatically go to the video channel (AV1, AUX1, etc.) to which you have connected the set-top box, you need to select the correct channel manually or even check the connections if necessary. First connection Follow the steps to connect your set-top box. Init shows that the connection process has started (takes about 30 seconds). An image appears on the screen with the P&T logo (this confirms that your television and set-top box are connected and that the correct video channel has been selected). The display on the set-top box shows the time (the LED status light is red). Press the On/Off button again on the remote control (the LED status light will turn to green). Next you will be taken to the set-top box update screen (see the following paragraph on page 13). or you will be taken directly to the authentication screen (see page 14). 12 Using the set-top box for the first time

Updates are essential for the box to work in a correct way and shoud only take about 5 minutes. When this screen appears, press the OK button on your remote control to start the update. a counter from 1 to 4 will be displayed. The set-top box will then go into stand-by mode. Do not switch off the set-top box while it is updating. Switch on the set-top box and you will be taken to the authentication screen (page 14). Using the set-top box for the first time 13
14 PNT10133-GUIDE_ENG_G:PNT10133-GUIDE_ENG 5/11/08 15:58 Page 14 Entering the Authentication Codes You will have been given your TV access codes when you made your purchase in store or they will have been sent to you by post. The codes consist of a 9-digit login code and a 6-digit password. When you connect for the first time, you need to confirm your identity: When you have entered the 9-digit login code, the cursor will automatically move to the password field. Enter the password (for confidentiality reasons, the password will be hidden). When you have entered the 6 digits, the cursor will automatically move to OK. Press OK to confirm. The home screen is displayed. If an error message appears, re-enter the codes. Use the number keys (0 to 9) on your remote control to enter the codes. You cannot change your password: unlike the parental code (page 16), your password cannot be changed. From the Set up your account screen you can change the portal language, the audio language and the subtitle and screen format settings. Switch between the options using buttons and. Repeat this operation for each setting. When this is complete, you will be able to access the first channel in the starter package. Using the set-top box for the first time 15
16 PNT10133-GUIDE_ENG_G:PNT10133-GUIDE_ENG 5/11/08 15:58 Page 16 Changing the Parental Code Once you have confirmed your identity you can change your parental code. By default, the parental code is the same as your password. You are strongly recommended to change your parental code when you use the service for the first time. The parental code prevents younger people from watching programmes that are forbidden for under sixteens and which are available in the various packages. We strongly advise that you keep this code confidential. When you are connected in family mode, this section of the menu allows you to change to main mode. Press MENU and select MY SETTINGS and then MAIN MODE to access the homepage for the television service. Enter the parental code. Press OK to confirm. Press OK to confirm the message which appears on the screen. Access the menu directly by pressing the MENU button on your remote control. Use buttons and to access MY SETTINGS SECURITY PARENTAL CODE. Press OK. Enter your 6-digit code. Enter your new 6-digit code. Confirm your new 6-digit code. Confirm the change by pressing the OK button on your remote control. Once the code has been changed, the first TV channel in the starter package will appear again. 16 Using the set-top box for the first time

English Depending on the age of your children, you can use the parental control feature to restrict access to the channels and programmes available. Based on the programme classification established by the CSA*, you can restrict access to content which is forbidden for under tens, under twelves, under sixteens and/or under eighteens. Important: The service starts up in family mode, i.e. the under-sixteens mode will be activated. P&T Luxembourg shall not be liable for any over-sixteens content which is viewed if the subscriber changes the parental control settings. *The CSA (Conseil supérieur de l audiovisuel) is the regulating body for the audiovisual sector in France. Direct access: press the Menu button. The services include: MY TV: to access the channels. MY SETTINGS: to manage your settings, your account and read your messages. HELP: to access the help screen. MY RADIO: to access the radio mosaic. You will be guided through this menu intuitively. The following pages will show you the different features and how to use them. Updates should only take about 5 minutes. When this screen appears, press the OK button on your remote control to start the update. During the update a count from 1 to 4 will be displayed. The set-top box will then go into standby mode. Do not switch off the set-top box while it is updating. Switch on the set-top box and choose a channel. 20 Daily startup
21 PNT10133-GUIDE_ENG_G:PNT10133-GUIDE_ENG 5/11/08 15:58 Page 21 Accessing the Starter TV Package English When you switch on your television set and settop box, the first channel in the starter package will appear on screen. Basic controls Changing channels: Use the P+/P- buttons to move to the next or previous channel. Press the number of the channel you want to watch by using buttons 0 to 9. Changing the volume: Press the +/ - buttons to increase or lower the volume. Press the X Button to mute/restore the sound. Refer to the remote control manual for information on all the other controls. Switching on the original language version and subtitles You can change the audio settings for programmes with language options available (provided this feature is available on the channel). There are 2 ways to do this: Either you can set a default setting for all programmes with language options available by adjusting the relevant settings in the SETTINGS SECTION of the MY SETTINGS menu. See page 36. Or by switching the settings in the information sheet for each programme. See page 23 using the information sheet. TV package 21
22 PNT10133-GUIDE_ENG_G:PNT10133-GUIDE_ENG 5/11/08 15:58 Page 22 Navigating the Mosaic The mosaic shows the TV package channels in the form of small images. You can see 20 channels at once on the same screen and can select the one you want to watch. Press MENU MY TV MOSAIC to access the mosaic whenever you want. Use buttons,, and to switch between the channels on the screen. The channel selected will be framed. A bar at the bottom of the screen shows information about the current channel and programme. Press OK to watch the selected channel. To view the other mosaic screens, use buttons and to move left and right. The same principles apply to navigating these screens as mentioned above. Navigating the Favourites List In the favourites list you can see the starter package channels which you have defined as your Favourites. Press B (green button) to show the favourites list. Use buttons or to scroll through the list. Press buttons or for information on the programmes. When you have chosen a channel, press OK to access it. Press button B (green button) to close the favourites list. 22 TV package

Select the favorite channels with OK, they will be available in the favorite list, this is only available in the main mode. Using the Mini-Menu The mini-menu is an information bar which appears at the foot of your screen whenever you change channel. The information displayed includes: The name and number of the channel. The title of the programme being shown. The start- and end-times for the programme. How long the programme has left to run. Using the Information Sheet Press I or D (blue button) to display the information sheet. Press OK to display: Information on the programme currently being shown. Settings: change the language and switch the subtitles on. TV package 23
24 PNT10133-GUIDE_ENG_G:PNT10133-GUIDE_ENG 5/11/08 15:58 Page 24 Checking what s on using the Programme Guide (EPG) To take full advantage of the TV offer, you can use the programme guide to see what s on. Press G or guide on the remote control to access the programme guide. Use buttons,, and to switch between the different items. The programme selected will be framed. A bar will appear at the foot of the screen showing the name of the programme and the genre. When the yellow box is placed over a programme, press OK for more information. When the cursor is placed over a channel logo (on the left), press OK to go directly to that channel. When the cursor is placed over a channel logo (on the left), use buttons and to move to the programmes on the previous or following channels. For more information on a given channel, you can also simply enter the channel number directly using the remote control. Go back to TV-mode with the TV button on the remote control. 24 TV package

Use the navigation buttons and to switch between the different programmes. Select a programme and then press OK. Detailed information on the programme will be displayed. You can navigate to other programmes using the navigation buttons on the right. Select the programme you want by using buttons,, and and press OK to view the information for the programme. Press Q twice to close the programme guide and go back to the channel. TV package 25

Subscribing to packages Under Subscribing to packages you can consult your current subscriptions and take out new ones. Packages to which you have already subscribed are underlined in green. Packages to which you have not yet subscribed are underlined in red. Choosing a new package Navigate using the or arrows to display the various packages. Press the OK button on your remote control to see the channels included in the package chosen. Use the button to move to the SUBSCRIBE field and press OK to continue. Verification of offer Verify the price and the offer selected. Select a subscription start date where required. Press OK to continue. Confirming your order Enter your parental code if necessary. Your parental code was sent to you by letter with the initial confirmation of your order with P&T Television. If you no longer have your parental code available, please call our Helpdesk on Press OK to confirm. The programme that you are watching is automatically recorded onto the set-top box hard drive. Direct control means that you can go up to 1 hour back on a channel. Whenever you change channel, the content is deleted and the programme on the new channel starts to be recorded. Press II to pause the programme you are watching: the image will freeze and the set-top box will continue to memorise up to 1 hour of the programme being watched. Press II again to resume watching your recorded programme: the programme will recommence from where you stopped it. As such, you can watch your recorded programme and not miss a single second. Important Direct control only available on the Comfort decoder. Direct Control 27
28 PNT10133-GUIDE_ENG_G:PNT10133-GUIDE_ENG 5/11/08 15:58 Page 28 Important Direct control will only activate once you have been watching a channel for 10 seconds. The maximum memory time is 1 hour. As soon as you switch to another channel, the content recorded for the channel you were watching will be lost. Rewind a Programme See section fast-forward a programme. The only difference is the use of button. Fast-Forward a Programme Press to fast-forward the programme you are watching. Press several times to select the fast-forward speed: 1 press = speed x4. 2 presses = speed x16. 3 presses = speed x64. Press II to resume watching the programme as normal. Resume Watching the Programme Live Use the fast-forward button to catch up with the live broadcast of the programme or press to immediately resume watching the programme live. 28 Direct Control
29 PNT10133-GUIDE_ENG_G:PNT10133-GUIDE_ENG 5/11/08 15:58 Page 29 Recording using my decoder English If you have chosen the Comfort subscription, you can record your selected programmes directly onto your decoder s hard disk. Please note that some programmes cannot be recorded, such as VOD and pay-per-view programmes. Instant recording You can start instant recording of the programme in progress by using the red button on your remote control. You can change the duration of the recording. The default duration is 120 minutes. Press the button of your remote control to stop the recording. Access your recordings via the main MENU, MY CONTENT, then MY TV RECORDINGS. From this list, you can view or erase the programmes you have recorded. Return to TV mode by using the green B button on your remote control. Recording 29
30 PNT10133-GUIDE_ENG_G:PNT10133-GUIDE_ENG 5/11/08 15:58 Page 30 Schedule a recording Access the scheduling list via the main MENU, MY CONTENT, then MY TV RECORDINGS, and confirm with OK. Using the arrows on the remote control, select MY SCHEDULING and confirm with OK. To create a new schedule press OK (with the cursor positioned on the yellow strip). To make changes to your existing scheduling, move the yellow strip using the arrows and confirm with OK. Return to TV mode with the green B button. You can then: Select the channel you wish to record via the channel number (the name of the channel is displayed on the right). Choose the recording date The start and end time of the recording* Choose the recording frequency (once, weekly, every day except the weekend, every day except Sunday) Move the yellow strip to SCHEDULING and confirm with OK. *allow for earlier or later start of the programme 30 Recording

Video on demand offers you a selection of hundreds of films, television series, Luxembourg productions, etc. Select your films from a huge catalogue, from the comfort of your living room. No need to go out to the video shop any more just watch the video of your choice whenever you like. Ordering films from the main catalogue Access the main menu using the Menu button on your remote control and select MY CATALOGUE. Confirm with OK. Order or rent your film using the Video on demand heading Choose the catalogue-display mode with the yellow button on your remote control. You can then choose between image mode (film poster) and text mode (title list). VOD 31

You can switch between text and image display modes using the yellow button on your remote control. (NB: you can also choose the default display mode by changing the Display by default parameter. Go to the main MENU, then My Settings.) Navigate by genre using the arrow buttons on your remote control and access the list using the arrow button. Navigate using the arrow buttons to display available films. Select your film and confirm with OK to display detailed information. Navigate through these pages using the arrows on your remote control and confirm with OK. Select the required operation using the arrow buttons (Order, Add in cart, Back) and confirm with OK. Please note: in family mode, you must enter your parental code to hire or view a film. 32 VOD

To view the film: In the main menu select MY VIDEOS, then MY CONTENTS. Make your selection from the film list and access it from the options menu using Start the film by selecting View. How to add a film to your Video CART You can add films to your Video CART and confirm your purchases in one go. Choose the catalogue-display mode with the yellow button on your remote control. You can choose between image and text modes. Select a film and add it to the shopping basket. A confirmation message is displayed and the film is now available under MY CONTENTS then Video CART. Continue to select your films and add them to your shopping basket. You can check your purchase history under My Settings, then History. Hiring a film 33

Press MENU and select MY RADIO to access the radio section. A mosaic will appear on screen showing you the available radio stations. Choose a station by moving the cursor over the logo using buttons,, and. The chosen station will be framed by a yellow box. Once the box is positioned on a logo, the music will start to play. A bar at the foot of the screen will show information about the radio station. To view the other mosaic screens, use buttons and to move left and right. The same principles apply to navigating these screens as mentioned above. You can also directly select a programme via its number, without using the mosaic function Radio 35

SECURITY TURN ON RESTRICTED MODE to change from main mode to family mode. CHANGE PARENTAL LEVEL to change the parental level settings. PARENTAL CODE to change the parental code. ACCESS PARAMETERS to set the access and purchase settings. LOCKED CHANNELS to define the channels which can be accessed and those which are locked in family mode. LOCKED VIDEOS * PARAMETERS to change the display and audio settings. TV SUBSCRIPTION PARAMETERS to change the display and audio settings. TV SUBSCRIPTION HISTORY My profile 37

You can read your messages which are related to the television service: special offers and service developments, etc. Press Q or R to exit. Main Mode When you are connected in family mode, this section of the menu allows you to change to main mode. Press MENU and select MY SETTINGS and then TURN RESCTRICTION OFF to access the homepage for the television service. Enter the parental code. Press OK to confirm. Press Menu to access the TV service home screen and then select MY SETTINGS, SECU- RITY and LOCKED CHANNELS. To display the access settings screen, you first need to enter your parental code. Switch between the boxes using buttons,, and and tick or untick the channels; only these channels are available in restricted mode. Press OK to confirm the changes. To cancel the command, select Cancel and press OK or press R. Customise Your TV Settings Press MENU, MY SETTINGS and SETTINGS. You can change the viewing settings for your digital TV service: Video format: choose the 4:3 or 16:9 format so that the screen automatically adapts to the format of your television set. Audio: select the menu language and the audio preferences for programmes with language options available. Subtitles: switch subtitles on/off for programmes with language options available. You can also change the audio settings and the subtitles for each programme by pressing i press the OK button and select SETTINGS in the information sheet. 44 My profile

Resetting the Set-Top Box In the rare event the set-top box or image should happen to freeze, please reset the box: Press the On/Off button on the front of the set-top box for 3 seconds: INIT will appear on the set-top box digital display. Wait for the INIT message to disappear then press the On button on the remote control to switch the box back on. Wait for a moment to see whether the problem has been resolved. If this has still not restored the service, you can carry out an electrical reboot: unplug the set-top box from the mains and then plug it back in. If the problems persist, check the connections are in place (see page 39) and then call the TV by P&T technical helpline. Information 45

You may also find the information and advice at under the section Télévision des P&T useful. The set-top box or image is frozen or the box does not respond to the remote control. Reset the set-top box (see page 38). Also check the remote control batteries. There is no image (black screen). Check the following: The synchronisation of your router, The connections: - between the set-top box and the television set: check that the scart cable is properly connected. - between the router and the set-top box: the Ethernet cable should be connected. Your television is set to auxiliary channel (AUX1, AV1, etc.) and there is a TV programme coming from the set-top box. If the problem persists, reset the set-top box. Check that the setup menu is displayed on the screen following the reset. The image frequently reveals the pixels or freezes. Check whether each telephone socket where an item of equipment is connected (telephone, fax) has an ADSL filter. Check the quality of the ADSL cable connecting the router (or modem) to the telephone socket. Reset the set-top box. 46 Initial Troubleshooting
