2 Description: SD10E-QAM SD10E-QAM (SD Encoder - QAM) accepts & auto-detects up to ten (10) inputs in digital SD-SDI and analog NTSC baseband Audio/Video format, digitizes & MPEG-2 encodes each into a standard-definition stream (SD 480i), and multiplexes the resulting ten (10) streams into one (1) output in QAM format in the MHz range (CATV channels T7-T14 and 2-135). Utilizing the QAM 256 mode (38.8 Mb/sec), each stream on QAM output #1 will be encoded at ~ 3.8 Mb/sec. [Example 2] Assign inputs 1,2,7,8 to ASI #1, & Assign inputs 3,4,5,6,9 & 10 to ASI #2 Loop-back the ASI #1 to the encoder s internal QAM modulator inputs 1,2,7, & 8 each is encoded on QAM output #1 at ~ 9.5 Mb/sec. Use an external QAM modulator for ASI #2 inputs 3,4, 5, 6,9, & 10 each is encoded on QAM output # 2 at ~ 6.5 Mb/sec. Note: Encoding bitrate for each input can also be adjusted to any specific value through the GUI-based configuration menu. Slide # 8

9 Features Emergency Alert System (EAS) Interface Input #10 is user-configurable as regular input or as EAS input. When Input #10 IS configured as regular : Input #10 is multiplexed with the other 9 inputs and appears on its assigned virtual channel. When Input #10 is configured as EAS : The unit automatically detects any input on the video port of #10, and replaces the content of inputs #1 through #9 with what is present on #10. If no video is detected on input #10, then inputs #1 through #9 will automatically revert back to the original content. Slide # 9

13 Monitoring & Control - Status Screen The read-only Status screen indicates the MPEG-2 encoded status of each of the 10 inputs. Partial Screen - Only 4 of the possible 10 inputs are shown here. Slide # 13

14 Monitoring & Control - Configuration > Mode & Video The Configuration > Mode screen allows user to select one of the 4 possible modes. The Configuration > Video screen allows user to configure, for each of the 10 inputs, the following parameters: Bitrate The sum of all 10 input bitrates must be less than or equal to Mbps when selecting QAM 256 modulation Closed Captioning Video Filter Level Maximum, Minimum, or Disabled GOP Size from 1 to 20 [1] Partial Screen - Only 2 of the possible 10 inputs are shown here. Input Type ASI Output #1 or #2 [1] GOP (Group Of Pictures) specifies the order in which intra-frames & and inter-frames are arranged. Each MPEG-coded video stream consists of successive GOPs. From the MPEG pictures contained in it the visible frames are generated. A GOP can contain the following picture types: I-picture or I-frame (intra coded picture) P-picture or P-frame (predictive coded picture) B-picture or B-frame (bidirectionally predictive coded picture) Slide # 14

15 Monitoring & Control - Configuration > PSIP & QAM The Configuration > PSIP screen allows user to assign desired channel name, major channel #, and minor channel # to any one of the 10 inputs. This provides user complete flexibility to position any input on any virtual channel. Partial Screen - Only 2 of the possible 10 inputs are shown here.
