3 Entertainment & Technology TNT Mystery Movie Night This Fall This fall, TNT is debuting a new lineup of original movies based on contemporary crime dramas that range from true-life crime stories to fictional mysteries from some of the best-selling authors of this genre. Action, drama, and suspense! These movies are based on New York Times best selling mystery/thriller novels that come from highly regarded authors that will keep you guessing! Baker Boys This new documentary will air four episodes on Wednesday evenings in October, premiering Wednesday, October 5 at 9:00pm CST. 4 Opened on August 6, 1917, as the new railway station for Marseilles serving the Rock Island Line with passenger train service until the early 1950 s. The building continued with freight service until the 1970 s, and was occupied by a track maintenance crew until closing in The station reopened in 1993 as the Marseilles Family Health Center, and in 1997, the station was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

7 In Our Community Small Town Saturday Night Years ago almost every small town had a busy Main Street on Saturday or a special event at the school house or American Legion. Farmers and residents would drive the horse and buggy to town to socialize with everyone and go to the bank and do some shopping, perhaps visit a a local restaurant, or maybe go to the Saturday night dance. Times have changed, and unfortunately, Main Streets in small communities do not have a huge amount of people socializing, visiting, or going to the banks and stores on Saturday night anymore. In Marseilles; however, we are fortunate to have great restaurants and a grocery store to bring people to eat out, meet and visit old friends (or make new ones), and perhaps do some shopping. As always our restaurants will be serving fried chicken, steaks, pasta, seafood, and delicious specials, pizza or sandwiches. Another great way to bring people together in communities is to have special events and fundraisers. As seen on this page, Marseilles is holding the Marseilles Firefighters Annual Dance and the Marseilles Fun Days Fundraiser, along with events like the American Legion Oktoberfest and Blast From the Past Car Show. The Firefighters Dance has been held for several decades. We are fortunate to have men that serve as volunteers and have given so much of their time to protect us 24/7 and are so quick to respond. They and their families are devoted to keeping us safe and wouldn t it be wonderful if everyone would take the time to show these men how grateful we are, even if it is only to stop by the Lions Club to say Thanks. I cannot say this enough, We are lucky to have such great volunteers in Marseilles. Patti Smith, Mayor City of Marseilles Blast From The Past Car Show The Blast from The Past Car Show runs from 8:30am to 2:30pm on October 2 at Illini State Park in Marseilles. Registration is from 8:30am to noon and the cost is $10. Judging starts at noon with awards given at 2:30pm Many classes including original restored, street machines, street rods, corvettes, motorcycles,and more. There will be a 50/50 drawing, food concessions, and music by 3-D Sound Company. For more information contact Ed Cavanaugh Jr. at Marseilles Fun Days Fundraiser The Fun Days Committee is raising funds for the 2012 Fun Days Celebration. They are sponsoring a Drive-Thru/Carry Out only dinner on October 8, 2011 from 4:00pm until 6:30pm at Marseilles Elementary School. Use the Illinois St. entrance to the Bus Lanes for pick up. Fay s BBQ is cooking up BBQ porkchops, chicken, and a combination of both for dinner. Tickets are $12 a meal and the meal includes applesauce, baked beans, coleslaw, rolls, and butter. You must buy tickets BEFORE the event from any Fun Days Committee member or at Marseilles City Hall. Call for more information. Marseilles Firefighters Association Annual Dance The dance this year will be Saturday, October 8, 2011 at the Marseilles Lions Club located at 511 Commercial Street. The doors will open at 7:00pm and continue until 11:00pm. Tickets are $2.50 in advance from the Marseilles Firemen or $3.00 at the door. Bag Shot Row plays from 8:00pm to 11:00pm. There will be a silent auction, raffles, and door prizes at the event. Food will be provided and the Lions Club bar will be open. Firemen, EMS, and Police are admitted free. Proceeds will go to upgrade rescue equipment for the Marseilles Fire Department. American Legion Oktoberfest The Marseilles American Legion Woman s Auxiliary presents Oktoberfest on Saturday, October 22, 2011 from 5:00pm - 8:00pm. Join us for Oompah Band Music and German Fare at the Marseilles American Legion, 571 Rutland St. Dinner will be served buffet style for $10.00 a plate.
