3 Name of the event Why use the term AquaHacking in the name of the 2015 summit on the Ottawa River? The word Summit is commonly used to describe this type of event. Although this term is accurate, it lacks colour, fails to spark interest and does not evoke innovation or excitement in the least. When they envisaged the AquaHacking 2015 event, the River Mission team was keen to learn from past summits and environmental events and identify critical success factors. They focused on finding an innovative approach that would attract the decision-makers and influential leaders all the while capturing the attention of the general public, especially youth. Technology is part of our daily lives, and this is particularly true of younger generations. Hackathons put technology to work for social engagement. As our event is one of the few hackathons focused on the topic of water, we feel this name would initiate a powerful call to action, ensuring that the event stands out and that it is readily associated with innovation. area recent phenomenon, hackathons are highly productive events that are driven by a sense of community and mutual support in a spirit of sharing and knowledge exchange. This type of platform brings together an interactive community apply their talents to a specific cause. It is innovation on fast-forward! The event name is the first element that will catch the attention of the public and pique the curiosity of our target audience. It is the ideal marketing tool to attract our key stakeholders and will enable our event to stand out on search engines. The elements of the name Aqua: a universal word that evokes water Hacking: a dynamic word that promises action and results This intriguing and unusual combination clearly states that we are putting technology to work for water! The name AquaHacking will be used for the first time for the Ottawa River Summit, but it may be used for other causes in the future. Name proposed AquaHacking 2015 Ottawa River Summit Presented by the de Gaspé Beaubien Family Visual proposed The water drop visually associates the event with water. Pixelated squares evoke the technology aspect of the event and speaks to the hakers. We recommend using AquaHacking 2015 as the name of the event. This will be followed by a subtitle that will ensure continuity with the ongoing activities of the Ottawa Riverkeeper organization. 3
4 The Logo EXPLANATION OF THE LOGO There are two things the AQUAHACKING logo is meant to evoke: water and the world of software development. The drop of water was chosen as the primary symbol as it represents this element in its simplest and purest form. The drop can also represent the way each participant becomes an agent of change on a global scale the individual drops that make the mighty ocean. The texture applied to the drop symbol suggests the world of information technology that underpins the event. The fusion of the two elements evokes the very essence of AQUAHACKING. The drop of water can be used by itself as a symbol of the event or together with the signature. The wave formed with the letter Q is a clear evocation of the watercourse, but it also suggests the ongoing nature of the project and underscores the connection between software development and water-related issues. As a whole, these two symbols accurately depict the collaborative and evolutionary experience associated with the cause. 4
5 HORIZONTAL VERSION If the format makes the logo hard to read in its vertical form, the horizontal version can be used. Although the choice of format is based on readability, the vertical version must be used on a priority basis. 5
6 MENTION OF ASSOCIATED EVENT The AQUAHACKING logo can be associated with a specific event. In this case, the event name appears under the AQUAHACKING logo. The event name must be centered with the logo, respect the typefaces, and be in the appropriate color. The name must appear in bilingual form. The year of the event must also comply with the graphic standards. 6
7 MENTION OF OFFICAL PRESENTER As with events, the logo can be associated with an official presenter. The presenter s logo must not overshadow the AQUAHACKING logo in any way. If the colors of the presenter s logo contrast unpleasantly with those of the AQUAHACKING logo, the black and white verse of the presenter s logo will be used. The presenter s logo must always be right-aligned with the AQUAHACKING logo and be preceded by the words presented by. 7
8 BANNER FORMAT The AQUAHACKING logo and the name/logo of an associated event or official presenter can only appear side by side (instead of one on top of each other) if the logo is used in a narrow banner at the top of a document (e.g. a PowerPoint presentation). In this case, the size of presenter s logo can be almost identical to the size of the AQUAHACKING logo for the sake of readability. 8
9 SYMBOL ONLY The drop of water alone can be used as the logo. The icon must respect the graphic standards. For the sake of conformity, the colors and versions cannot be altered in any way. 9

11 PROHIBITED USES Do not change colors. Do not use a background that contrasts sharply with the logo. Do not modify the positioning of the logo s components. Do not change or alter the graphic elements of the logo. Any inappropriate use is prohibited. 11
12 the colors The logo colors were inspired by two main elements: water and the world of computer programming. A palette of cold colors was chosen for the effect it produces. They are soothing, relaxing and reassuring colors. Water often evokes emotions, poetry, serenity, and escape, while programming is perceived as a cerebral, logical, austere and hectic activity. Turquoise blue suggests water. This color is often associated with the technology sector. It evokes calmness, serenity and intelligence. It is generally described as a peaceful, soothing and reassuring color all characteristics normally associated with water. To illustrate the programming theme, a contrast color albeit in the same shades was the obvious choice. Tinted blue-grey was chosen. Dark colors are often associated with strength and rigidity. In the emerging field of programming, competition is fierce. For the reasons, dark blue-grey was chosen for the way it contrasts nicely with turquoise blue.
