7 MPO Connector System MPO Fan-out Solution The default fiber solution is shown on page 2. MPO cables are terminated on two cassettes. This allows flexibility and single operation of fiber links. In some scenarios especially in storage area networks a high density along with less connections is preferred. For this MPO fan-out cables are available. This allows direct connections of the fan-out cables to equipment as shown on the picture. 9 MPOptimate Connector System MPOptimate System The MPOptimate system is intended for Data Center owners who are considering the implementation of structured fiber cabling in accordance with ISO/IEC, EN or TIA standards, and who are looking for the most flexible pre-terminated MPO solution. With significantly improved optical parameters, the system allows different approaches today and preparation of forthcoming high speed Data Center applications in the future. Trends such as virtualization and switch consolidation by Super-Switches can be covered easily with the MPOptimate system. The MPOptimate system is the only system on the market which is capable of covering today's and tomorrow's design and applications requirements. In particular 40 and 100 Gb/s Ethernet requires much higher precision and a tighter system approach. Each single part of the complete system is important to achieve the expected performance. The product range is a factory pre-terminated and tested solution with a high density MPO connector at its core. The system is designed for reliable and quick operations in data centers and can also be used for backbone installations in office environments. Next generation MPO system offering a migration path to 40 Gb/s and 100 Gb/s Ethernet Support 10 Gb/s channels with up to six cassettes on a length of 300 meters Insertion loss 0,35 db max. per cassette Return loss > 35 db (LC) and > 28 db (MPO) Reduced number of LAN electronics required due to power saving data center design Fully compliant with all data center standards MPOptimate Aggregation, Cross Connect Aggregation, Cross Connect Main Distribution Area Aggregation, Cross Connect MPOptimate Aggregation, Cross Connect Server, Storage Server, Storage Server, Storage MPOptimate 6 Cassette Application 7

10 MPOptimate Connector System Design in and Configuration Importance of patch cords With MPOptimate patch cords are part of the overall system performance, as all channel values are based on the use of MPOptimate patch cords. The endface geometry of the LC interface is an essential part of system performance and we have been able to improve both the insertion and the return loss. Unlike earlier days, patch cords are now needed to achieve the guaranteed values of the channel. The geometry of the interface and the resulting values for insertion and return loss have impact on the channel performance. This also applies to the warranty. Commercial MPO versus MPOptimate 10 Gb/s 40 and 100 Gb/s 6 cassettes per channel MPO MPOptimate Insertion loss max. (cassette) 1 db 0.35 db Return loss min. (MPO) 20 db 28 db (MPO) Return loss min. 17 Server Cabling Copper Cabling in Data Centers Copper is the preferred medium for switch and server connections. Most servers have copper connections and therefore cabling to servers needs a copper cabling system. With the introduction of global cabling standards for data center, newer data centers have a end of row design or in principle a dedicated distributor (POD). Each rack for the equipment contains copper and fiber patch panels for servers or storage devices. Tyco Electronics offers pre-terminated cabling in both copper and fiber. All systems are pre-terminated, scalable and support different customer designs.the systems support Ethernet and Fiber channel from 1 Gb/s up to 40 Gb/s. All solutions are integrated in the AMP Hi-D cabling platform for an overall professional IT-infrastructure platform. Please check page 1. AMP NETCONNECT systems can be used for: Applications: Equipment Cabling Server Cabling SAN Cabling Supports EoR-Design Supports POD-Design Ethernet Fiber Channel Infiniband Electromagnetic Environment: Shielded systems for MICE classes E 1, E 2 and E 3 Immunity against air discharge (8 kv) and contact discharge (4 kv) No separation distance to electrical devices, such as: fluorescent lamps power cable mobile phones and walkie-talkies Speed: 1 and 10 Gigabit Ethernet 40 Gigabit Ethernet* Sigma Link Copper or Fiber Patch Panel Server, Storage Copper or Fiber Patch Panel Server, Storage Consolidation point cabling MRJ21 rear cabling Copper or Fiber Patch Panel Server, Storage Trunk Cables Copper or Fiber Patch Panel Server, Storage Horizonal Distribution Area Standard compliant equipment cabling MICE Classes: International standard bodies have recognized the importance of the environment when designing cabling systems. To underline the importance ISO/IEC has released the TR 29106:2007 paper. The content of this paper is being used in more and more standards such as ISO/IEC 11801, EN and TIA 569-C. In the TR 29106:2007 paper are three defined classes. The classes have been named MICE and have the following meaning: Mechanical Ingress Climatic Electromagnetic Class 3 has the highest requirement while Class 1 has the lowest one. For copper cabling systems the electromagnetic behavior is directly related to the technology. The global parameter is coupling attenuation, which is a kind of EMC factor. Data Center belongs to Class E 2, for flawless and reliable services in the data center. Copper cabling systems shall comply in all disciplines to E 2 specifications as there are many different electrical systems in a small area. Independent tests have shown that devices such as fluorescent lamps, power cabling, wireless devices may have an impact. This is particularly true for UTP cabling systems supporting 10 Gigabit Ethernet applications. The XG and XG A systems from Tyco Electronics fulfil the E 1, E 2 and E 3 requirements and provide highest availability with consistently high margins. * With Class FA system up to 50 m, based on current studies. Length and capability depend on final definition by IEEE 802.3ba. 15

34 Intelligent Infrastructure Management ITIL (IT infrastructure Library) Successful IT increasingly depends on cooperation between different services and competencies within the IT department. In order to control these combined IT services, so-called IT processes have been developed and collected as ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library), a framework of best practices for IT processes. As a vital part of ITIL, IT Service Management is recognized as the central organizational instrument for aligning IT with business processes and for controlling IT services according to customer needs. Configuration Management Enhancement using AMPTRAC AMPTRAC fully supports ITIL The overall purpose of the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) is to collect data about all assets and configurations and to offer this information to other IT processes. Hence, the CMDB is a logical image of the IT infrastructure. AMPTRAC supports the CMDB by adding real-time connectivity and networking device information. Tracing Virtualization AMPTRAC's VM support allows tracking and monitoring of virtual machines and their physical hosts. It offers more control over peripheral network devices. It identifies, tracks, and documents the logical configuration and physical location of VMs. And it helps data center customers keep track of IT equipment and cabling in virtual networks. Plus, it supports troubleshooting and simplifies move add change activity. Real-time Overview & Documentation In many industries data network down time is business critical! Depending on the importance of the network as a daily business tool, hourly costs can be extremely high (e.g. in banking and insurance, airports, ISP's, etc.). The solution: accurate, reliable documentation by AMPTRAC helps recovery from any problem as quickly as possible by greatly reducing the debugging time. 32
