New Category 6 Ethernet cables are required at the library for the cameras racks exist in both buildings with room for connections 4. Rack in City Hall currently has a Corning fiber optic housing that can be expanded by purchasing the correct Corning fiber optic spliced pigtails 5. A fiber optic housing must be purchased for the library. 6. A 4 conduit is between the two buildings is already in place. This conduit terminates on the outside of each building. It is the contractors responsibility to penetrate the wall, provided and install pull boxes, indoor conduit and other components necessary to complete the job. The conduit is new, empty except for a pull string. 7. The distance between the two computer rooms is approximate 450 feet vendor to validate prior to ordering any materials. 8. No copper cables are required between buildings. 9. There are a total of (28) camera s for the library, each location requires 2 drops for a total of Only camera will be connected at each location, the 2nd cable is for future use. 11. Label all NEMA boxes or junction boxes with ½ high characters indicating MDF/IDF origination/destination and other pertinent information. 12. Sealing of openings between floors, through rated fire and smoke walls, or created by the contractor for cable pass through shall be the responsibility of the contractor. Sealing material and application of this material shall be accomplished in such a manner that is acceptable to the local fire and building authorities having jurisdiction over this work. 13. Creation of such openings as are necessary for cable passage between locations shall be the responsibility of the contractor's work. Any openings created by or for the contractor and left unused shall also be sealed as part of this work. 14. Penetrations through fire-rated walls, partitions, floors, or ceilings shall be sealed with a material capable of preventing the passage of flames and hot gasses when subjected to requirements of the Test Standard specific of Fire Stops ASTM-E-814 UL1479 using approved methods. 15. Any damage must be reported immediately.
2 CATEGORY 6 CABLING SYSTEM 1. Approved Cabling Systems: Hitachi, Berk-Tek, Superior Essex Category 6, Structured Cabling System or approved equal. Acceptable connectivity manufacturers are ADC, Leviton or Ortronics and must remain consistent throughout. 2. Four pair, 23 AWG, Category 6, UTP, as defined by the EIA/TIA standards intended for use with transmission rates up to and including 155 Mbps. Cabling shall be tested up to 750 MHz. 3. The Contractor shall install cables and equipment as part of a Structured Cabling System (SCS). The various sections of this specification pertain to specific products and/or installation requirements that must conform to the warranty requirements of the Structured Cabling System manufacturer. 4. All horizontal building cabling shall be UL-Listed, Plenum-rated unshielded twisted pair (UTP), 4-pair, 23 AWG, Category 6 with solid crosscut spline for pair separation (600 Mhz). Colored cable sheath shall be utilized with one standard color for data (black). Category 6 and CMP identification marking shall be visible on the outside sheath. 5. Patch panels shall be Category 6 48-port patch panels (loaded) and consist of the panel, wiring blocks, rack mount strain relief bar, and port modules. 6. Patch panel shall mount to TIA-EIA compliant 19 rack mount bracket. It shall utilize standards compliant RJ45 jacks for station cable termination. 7. Jacks or inserts shall be RJ45, 6-port modules with individually replaceable jacks in accordance with TIA/EIA 568B wiring standard, FCC Part 68, UL listed, NEC Article 800. It shall accommodate 110- type jack of the 4-pair Category 6 cable. Jack shall support Gigabit Ethernet, 100 Base-T, 10 Base-T and analog connections. 8. Backside strain relief shall be provided for every row of ports. It shall be attached to the TIA/EIA compliant rack via rear mounting holes. Camera (Station) Outlets 1. BISCUIT OUTLETS: Biscuit-type outlets will be utilized for camera connections. 2. JACKS: Category 6 RJ45 unshielded modular jacks shall be utilized. The jacks shall meet or exceed TIA/EIA 568-B.2-1 and IEC requirements for Category 6 component performance. Jacks shall be capable of Gigabit Ethernet, 100 Base-T, 10 Base-T and analog connections. Wiring scheme label shall permit T568A or T568B wiring pattern. T568B wiring scheme will be utilized. 3. Modular jacks shall be terminated using 110-style pc board connectors. The 110style connectors shall be capable of terminating AWG solid core wire. 110 Contacts shall be paired (with additional space between pairs) to improve crosstalk performance. Each jack shall be provided with a bend-limiting strain relief. All jacks shall be terminated using manufacturerspecified jack termination tools and methods. 4. UTP Jacks will be color coded blue. 5. Cameras mounted on exterior of building will be connected to the biscuit-type jacks provided in #1. Camera s will not be hard wired back to main data frame. 6. There are a total of (28) camera s for the library, each location requires 2 drops for a total of Only 1 camera will be connected at each location, the 2nd cable is for future use. Label cables, outlets, patch panels, and punch blocks sequentially.
3 8. Label each outlet with permanent self-adhesive label or insert with minimum 3/16 in. high characters. 9. Label each cable with permanent self-adhesive label wrap with minimum, 1/8 in. 10. Labeling and marking shall be in accordance with TIA/EIA-606 the Administration Standard for Telecommunications Infrastructure of Commercial Buildings. Labeling will be done sequentially in accordance with current City standard labeling for horizontal and backbone cabling. Labeling in existing patch panels should conform to existing and continue in sequence. Contractor will confirm labeling scheme with the Owner s representative in advance. 11. Use labels on face of data patch panels and match existing where appropriate. 12. Mark up floor plans (if available) showing outlet locations, type, and cable ID. Turn these drawings over to the owner on completion in order to allow the owner's personnel to connect and test owner-provided equipment in a timely fashion. 13. All category 6 cabling must be Category 6 compliant in accordance with TIA/EIA-568-B-2.1 and ISO/IEC (and latest TSB s) MHz testing, bi-directional (NEXT) on all data drops using a TDR tester with current calibration (Fluke, Agilent or equivalent) independently certified for Category 6 testing. These shall include manufacturer-required tests for Category 6 cable (Attenuation, NEXT, PSNEXT, Return Loss, ELFEXT, and PSELFEXT data that indicate the worst case result, the frequency at which it occurs, the limit at that point, and the margin). Tests shall be performed on all data drops with swept frequency from 1 MHz to the highest frequency that is consistent with TIA standards. 15. Length, propagation delay and skew shall be included in Category 6 test results. Distances shall be noted in feet. 16. When repairs and re-tests are performed, the problem and corrective action taken shall be noted and both the failed and passed test data shall be collocated in the documented test results. All re-terminations after testing, regardless of cause, shall be re-tested. 17. The Owner reserves the right to require additional tests, as deemed appropriate. 18. All tests shall be documented electronically and transmitted to City s representative for review and retention. 19. The City s representative shall be provided a minimum of one week s notice of all acceptance and proof-of-performance testing to be conducted throughout the project.
