10 MENU FAMILY FAVORITES The Family Favorites feature allows you to group your favorite channels into six personalized categories that you can rename. Thirty-six channels can be stored in Family Favorites. Channels stored using Auto Program (see page 5 in the Quick Use and Setup Guide) automatically appear in Family Favorites. 11 MENU FAVORITE ANNELS/ Using the Family Favorites menu, you can group your favorite channels into personalized categories (see the previous page). Pressing the button on your remote allows you to quickly access the category lists on screen. From the screen, you can go to a favorite channel or preview groups of your favorite channels as subpictures. Set Favorite Ch. Ch. 7 MOVIES 6 8 Menu To Surf To Quit Exit Set Favorite Ch. Each category contains two groups of three channels. Pressing the button will display one group per category, depending on which group you select. When you activate any of the, Movies, or Canadian ratings to block programs, the option of viewing Favorite Channels as subpictures will be unavailable. 12 MENU AUTOLOCK allows you to block the picture and sound of a selected channel or video input. This feature also enables you to block the viewing of programs based on their ratings Movie or. The information to the right and on the next page explains what the ratings mean. To enter the settings areas, you must input a four-digit Access Code number. The factory preset code number is 7, which you can change. To familiarize yourself with the options, read the information below. See the directions for making settings on pages 4 and 5. Functions of the options when turned on: Channel blocks the picture and sound of a chosen channel. Video Lock blocks the picture and sound of all video inputs. To lock the video inputs, you must be tuned to one of the video inputs. Quick Lock blocks the picture and sound for channels and 4 on both ANT(enna) A and B and all video inputs. Front Panel Lock deactivates all buttons on the s front panel except the POWER button. Movie Ratings blocks programs according to movie ratings. Ratings blocks programs according to ratings. Canadian (Eng[lish]) blocks various types of movies and programs used in Canada that you feel may be inappropriate due to its content. Canadian Ratings (Frn [French]) blocks Canadian French programs according to various program ratings that you feel may be inappropriate due to its content. MOVIE RATINGS (MOTION PICTURE ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA) G General Audience: Most parents would find this program suitable for all ages. This type of programming contains little or no violence, no strong language, and little or no sexual dialogue or situations. PG Parental Guidance Suggested: This programming contains material that parents may find unsuitable for younger children. It may contain one or more of the following: moderate violence, some sexual situations, infrequent coarse language, or some suggestive dialogue. PG- Parents Strongly Cautioned: This programming contains material that parents my find unsuitable for children under the age of. It contains one or more of the following: violence, sexual situations, coarse language, or suggestive dialogue. R Restricted: This programming is specifically designed for adults. Anyone under the age of 7 should view this programming only with an accompanying parent or guardian. It contains one or more of the following: intense violence; intense sexual situations; strong, coarse language; or intensely suggestive dialogue. NC-7 No one under the age of 7 will be admitted: This type of programming should be viewed only by adults. It contains graphic violence; explicit sex; or crude, indecent language. NR (Not Rated) (and [NA] [Not Applicable]): This programming contains no rating. It has not been rated or ratings do not apply. -Y Appropriate for all children: This type of programming is designed for a very young audience, including children ages 6. Programming with these ratings is not expected to frighten younger children. -Y7 Appropriate for children seven and older: This programming may frighten children under the age of 7. Such programming may be more appropriate for children who have acquired the development skills needed to distinguish between make-believe and reality. 20 PICTURE MENU PICTURE SETTINGS Use the Picture menu to adjust picture settings and improve picture quality. SETUP PICTURE SOUND THEATER With the PICTURE menu on the screen, press the CURSOR DOWN button until the control you want to adjust is highlighted. Press the CURSOR LEFT or RIGHT button to adjust the control. The following are descriptions of the PICTURE menu controls: Picture changes the contrast between black and white levels in the picture. This adjustment will affect the picture only when Advanced Settings/Image Max is off (see the next page). Brightness adjusts the overall picture brightness. Color adjusts the level of color in the picture. Tint adjusts flesh tones so they appear natural. Sharpness adjusts the amount of detail in the picture. To return to the Menu Bar, press the button. Automatically compensates for weak or strong signals to produce a clear picture. Turn ImageMax off to control other preference settings. Auto Color automatically monitors and adjusts the color to maintain constant color levels even after a program or channel changes. It also maintains natural flesh tones while preserving the fidelity of background colors. Auto Color will automatically set to on and cannot be turned off when ImageMax is on. Auto Color does not operate with a Component YPbPr input signal. DNR (Dynamic Noise Reduction) automatically reduces conspicuous noise in the picture without degrading picture quality. DNR will automatically be set to on and cannot be turned off when ImageMax is on. Color Temperature Options: Cool provides less intense colors with more blue. Warm provides hotter colors with more red. Normal provides standard colors.

Such an audio channel usually carries a second language translation for the displayed program). If a channel is tuned and is noisy, this option will automatically eliminate the audio for that channel. Loudness improves the quality of both low- and high-frequency sounds when listening at low volume levels. AVL (Audio Volume Leveler) automatically adjusts volume so that each channel has the same average volume level.

With the THEATER menu on the screen, press the CURSOR DOWN button until SRS is highlighted. Then press the CURSOR RIGHT button to enter the Surround options area. SETUP PICTURE SOUND THEATER Theater Modes SRS On Off THEATER Theater Modes SRS Turns off all surround modes. On Off Press the CURSOR DOWN or UP button to highlight an option. Then press the button to select the option. SRS* delivers an exciting and realistic D sound experience from just two external speakers (or) the two internal speakers of your. Tips on Rear Panel Connections S-Video connections are provided for high performance laserdisc players, s, and such that have this feature. Use these connections in place of the standard video connection if your device has this feature. If your device has only one audio output (mono sound), connect it to the left audio jack on the television. Refer to the operating guide of your other electronic equipment for additional information on connecting your hookup cables. A single can be used for # and #, but note that a cannot record its own video or line output. Refer to your operating guide for more information on line input output connections. You may use either VIDEO or S-VIDEO output (but not both at the same time) to connect to the AV, AV, or Front input. You may use VIDEO or COMPONENT: Y-PbPr output (but not both at the same time) to the connect to the AV or AV 4 input. Connect only one accessory device (, player, camcorder, etc.) to each input jack. COMPONENT Y-PbPr connections are provided for high performance accessory devices, such as players. Use these connections in place of the standard video connection if your device has this feature. When using the Y-PbPr input jacks, connect your accessory device s audio output to the s AV or AV 4 Left and Right Audio input jacks. Your accessory device s outputs may be labeled Y, B-Y, and R-Y. In this case, connect the device s B-Y output to the s Pb input and the device s R-Y output to the s Pr input. Your accessory device s outputs may be labeled Y-CbCr. In this case, connect the accessory device s Cb output to the s Pb input and the device s Cr output to the s Pr input. It may be necessary to adjust Tint to obtain optimum picture quality when using the Y-PbPr inputs. To ensure no copyright infringement, the MONITOR OUT output will be abnormal when using the Y-PbPr jacks. Connect the cable from the INPUT R of the external stereo system amplifier to the AUDIO TO HI-FI R jack. 31 REMOTE CONTROL AND ESSORY DEVICES DIRECT METHOD Your remote control is set to work your and many infrared remote (IR) control s, players, laserdisc players, cable boxes, and home satellite receivers. However, an easy one-time step may be necessary before the remote will work your accessory device. Try this initial check to see if going on to the following section is necessary. Accessory Device Press one of the MODE buttons on the remote control to place the remote in the mode you choose. The mode buttons are,,, and (essory). Example: If using a, press the MODE button. PIP + FREEZE Point the remote control at the device you wish to control and press the POWER button. Does the remote turn the device ON? If YES, stop and try other function buttons on the remote. If they also work the device, then the remote is ready and no further steps are needed. If NO, first look up a four-digit remote control Entry Code number for your brand of device before going through the simple steps on the following page.
