1 Dual Projection Lecture theatres Activation 1. When you walk into the room, press the green entry button at the door. That will turn the room lights on and wake the Touch Panel up. You should see the following screen. If the panel is not on or appears blank, touch the screen to wake it up. 2. When the system has been activated, you will see the power on / off screen in this state. Press Power On.
2 3. The system will then initialise. The purple pop up window will cover the screen and signifies system powering on. This may look like one of the two examples below.
3 Mode Selection When the system is ready you will be able to see the source selection page. The three modes of operation (Single Projection, Dual Projection and Video Conference Mode) for this room are shown as tabs at the top of the display. The Tab that is highlighted green is the mode that has been selected, in this case single projection.
4 Lighting Control You can make changes to the lighting in the room by pressing the Lights button at the bottom of the page. That will bring up this pop up page. You can change the settings by selecting the appropriate button in the purple area. Here Fluorescent are at 50% and Presenter lights are at 0%. In some rooms control of the blinds is achieved the same way by pressing the Blinds button and making a selection.
5 Microphone Volume Control The pre-set levels are reset every time the lectern is powered up but you can adjust the level if required by sliding your finger up or down within the fader button area. The Lectern Mic refers to the rooms main microphone which is located on the Lectern in this image is currently in mute. The Radio Mic level adjusts the volume of the radio microphone that you may be using, which will be audible only after you have set the frequency of the transmitter (lapel or handheld) to match the frequency of the rooms receiver. To avoid interference, the frequency is unique to each room and the frequency can be found on a label attached to the outside of the touch control panel and/or on the touch panel itself, within the Radio Mic fader control. The Program Audio fader adjusts the audio level of the source you have selected.
6 Source Selection 1. Note: The data projector in the room will not start until a source selection is made. To select a source to be displayed just press the button with the name of the source you want to display. We have selected Desktop here to display the desktop computer that is fitted in the lectern. If you are turning the projector on for the first time you will get a message estimating how long before a picture will be displayed. 2. After the projector has warmed up you will have a display on the screen. You should also have a message on the touch panel stating Desktop should now be displayed. This message will display appropriately for all sources you select.
7 3. You can project an alternate source at the same time with the use of the second projector. Again you will get a message informing approximately how long before an image will be displayed. 4. In this example below the Doc Cam Left on the Audience Left projector has been selected. This shows how different image sources can be displayed at the same time in dual projection rooms. You can show any source on either projector. Both sides will be recorded.
8 5. When the same image source is selected on both projectors only one Program Audio volume control fader displayed. Program Audio is the name of the volume control for a device you are displaying, and is separate to microphone volume control. 6. When you choose to display two different sources like here with Desktop PC and Laptop VGA on either projector, there will be a Program Audio fader displayed for each image source. To operate the laptop volume use the fader on the side that you have selected LAPTOP VGA, and use the fader on the side with DESKTOP PC selected.
9 Source Volume Control 1. To turn program audio down touch the bottom of the fader until the red bar all but disappears. 2. To turn the desktop PC audio up towards maximum touch the fader until the red bar looks like this.
10 3. If you want to mute the sound altogether touch the mute button under the fader. When pressed the button goes red and changes to say Unmute. Pressing it at this stage will allow sound to be heard again.
11 Sources Detail Your choices will vary a little from room to room but most rooms will have the following sources: DESKTOP or Lectern PC: The pc which is fitted to the lectern LAPTOP: This option is for you to connect a laptop brought into the room. Some rooms have the HDMI LAPTOP and VGA LAPTOP options. Verify before-hand if your laptop has HDMI or VGA output capabilities, and whether an Adaptor / Dongle may be required. VISUALISER or Document camera: This device is used to display printed information such as a page from a textbook or you can also use it to annotate onto a piece of paper as you conduct the classvery useful for demonstrating equation solving! DVD/VCR: to operate and display the DVD/VCR fitted to the room AUX AV input: to display an external AV source such as a DVD player or any device with composite video and stereo audio out. AUX AUDIO input: An audio only input such as an MP3 player which allows the sound to be heard through the room speakers without the data projector being switched on. Visualiser or Document camera After selecting this source the visualiser image will appear on the projector screen. You can zoom in or out of the image you want to display and you can also turn the overhead or Top Light ON or OFF depending on the image. The focus will adjust to the image automatically after you have finished adjusting the zoom position but you can override this if required.
12 CVRS- Central Video Replay Service This option is not fitted to all rooms but those that do have it allow the user to playback a video tape or DVD in their lecture room, which they have hired from the Library from one of the DVD/VCR Players managed by ITS AV Services. A CVRS booking can be made by ing cvrsbookings@uq.edu.au. Be sure to include details of the media, room location and time, and to conduct your booking in advance so everything can be prepared and confirmed. If you would like to have an external item (not from the UQ library) played, the media needs to be delivered to AV Services at Level 1 Prentice Building (42) in advance. The CVRS operator then arranges for your media to be loaded into a DVD/VCR at the Prentice building, and connects the DVD/VCR to your lecture room just before your lecture is due to begin. When no CVRS connection has been made the Touch Panel appears like this; Once a connection has been made, the Touch Panel will show the following; You then touch the buttons on the touch panel to control the allocated DVD/VCR unit remotely using the standard playback controls which are provided on the touch panel. The replay can be connected to more than one room simultaneously with one room being nominated as the controller by the user. 13 Lecture recording using ECHO 360 Recording of lectures in all teaching spaces equipped with echo 360 recording facilities starts automatically at the beginning of the hour of each lecture room booking. It will record for the duration of your booking and conclude at five minutes before the next room booking commences. The Echo 360 icon in the bottom right hand corner of the touch panel changes to a solid red when the recording is active. You can pause the recording at any time by pressing the Echo 360 icon button and select PAUSE. The recording will pause immediately but the icon will take a few seconds to change to PAUSED accompanied by a flashing Echo 360 Icon. To extend press EXTEND and enter duration. To stop the recording select STOP, but use with caution, as once the recording is stopped, it cannot be restarted.
14 However you can perform an ADHOC recording at any time by pressing the Echo 360 icon on the bottom right. A pop up window will appear, touch the Echo360 Ad Hoc Recording button to begin the Ad Hoc capture process. A new window appears requiring the user to enter some brief details about the recording.
15 Touch in the TITLE field and enter a title for the recording, please include a course code if relevant. Enter the duration of the recording in minutes (please allow five minutes before the start of the next room booking) in the DURATION field. Enter the name of the person initiating the recording and contact details, please include address and UQ username if possible in the relevant NAME and CONTACT fields.. Add a comment in the COMMENT field if applicable. In the PRODUCT GROUP field select the appropriate type of capture i.e. Audio Only for Audio only recordings, Single Projection and Audio if the venue is a Single projection venue or Dual Projection and Audio if using a dual projection equipped venue. Press SUBMIT and Echo360 will commence recording. Please note the Echo360 icon changes its status to RECORDING to indicate the recording has commenced. Begin your lecture / presentation as normal. AV Services will receive an notifying them of the capture and will process the recording once the capture has finished and uploaded to the Echo360 server.
16 Exiting the System When you are finished your lecture and you want to turn the system off, press the Exit button at the bottom of the touch panel display. This will then ask you are you sure you want to Turn System off? Press the Yes and then Power Off button and it return to the activation screen.
