USER MANUAL GOLDMUND LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM Active Speaker
Thank you for purchasing the Goldmund LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM The Goldmund Logos line fully incorporates the technological expertise developed by our company throughout many years. Please take some time to read this manual. It may provide you with useful information to make your pleasure of listening to the Logos 1N2N Active Speaker even higher. INTRODUCTION GOLDMUND LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM ACTIVE SPEAKER Goldmund was founded in 1978 and has ever since been dedicated to the accurate reproduction of sound and image. At Goldmund, we strive to lead in the creation, development and manufacture of the industry s most advanced technologies, including audio and video systems. The guiding principle at Goldmund is to produce a precise sound with the least possible loss of quality through the different stages. Goldmund will never adopt a technology before it is sufficiently developed to satisfy the high quality standards we set. This is why Goldmund has often rejected mainstream technologies and developed its own. GOLDMUND LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM Active Speaker 2

W A R N I N G! Only careful use can provide the satisfaction you are expecting from this product. All handling must be performed according to the following instructions to avoid deterioration of the speaker. Nevertheless, if the instructions are carried out in full, you will notice that the use of the LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM is quite simple and convenient. IMPORTANT PLEASE DO NOT CONNECT ANY CABLES OR MOVE ANY PART BEFORE READING THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS. GOLDMUND LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM Active Speaker 4
1 PRELIMINARIES The LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM are made with one Logos 1N and one Logos 2N, this speaker system uses very innovative technologies to achieve a level of definition and neutrality never found before in a speaker system. Please read very carefully the following instructions. These high-precision speakers are extremely revealing and can provide the best sound only if they are used properly. For exacting technicians, musicians, and all those who demand the very best in audio reproduction, we strongly recommend using this speaker system with high quality components, especially electronics and cables. 2 UNPACKING The LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM requires special attention during unpacking, because each unit is heavy and some handling steps require a lot of care. We recommend the unpacking and installation of this unit to be performed by two persons. Some handling steps necessitate a lot of care. ATTENTION If you need to return the speakers to the factory or to your local representative for a warranty repair, please note that it must be repacked in the original packing. This packaging has been specifically designed to protect the speaker in transit. Use of alternative packaging will almost inevitably result in damage, which cannot be covered by the warranty. Unpack the speakers at their final location. Open the cartons and remove the speakers and Logos-Frame components. GOLDMUND LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM Active Speaker 5
3 LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM FRAME Please read very carefully the following instructions to avoid assembly errors. Goldmund Logos 1N speaker and Logos 2N subwoofer are mounted with a support system called Logos-Frame. The assembly instructions for the frame are detailed below. If the speakers are already unpacked and at their final destination the unpacking details can be ignored but the handling instructions must still be followed. The component list for the support system is listed in the section Appendix page SELECTING THE SPEAKERS LOCATION A very strong and rigid floor is essential for the optimal sonic result of your LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM. Locate the speakers to have the most rigid possible coupling with the floor. Solid coupling is also essential. If your support is standing on a suspended floor, optimal result requires that at least the pointed foot is above a supporting beam or close to a supporting wall. ATTENTION The pointed foot supporting the Logos 2N is very hard. It is designed to go through carpeted flooring. If your floor is made of wood or tile, be careful not to scratch it by moving the speaker without lifting the point. GOLDMUND LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM Active Speaker 6
5 PREPARATION 5.1 Logos 1N: - Remove the screw located on the bottom of the speaker. - Mount the Logos-Frame short black pointed steel bar into the exposed threaded hole. - Place the speaker on one of its side on a soft protective surface. - Remove the first gold logo plates from the sides of the Logos 1N speaker and the screw under the plate. Fill the two exposed screw-holes (fixation of the gold plate) with the no-head plastic screws provided with the Logos-Frame. - Place the speaker on its other side on a soft protective surface. - Remove the second gold logo plates from the side of the Logos 1N and the screw under the plate. Fill the two exposed screw-holes with the no-head plastic screws. GOLDMUND LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM Active Speaker 7
5 PREPARATION (Ctd.) 5.2 Logos 2N: - Remove the four screws (M6x12) located on the back speaker face, see the schematic bellow: - Remove the screw located on the middle of the speaker s bottom side. Place the subwoofer on its side on a soft protective surface. - Mount the Logos-Frame long black pointed steel bar into the exposed threaded hole. Keep the Logos 2N on a soft protective surface whilst preparing the rest of the Logos-Frame. GOLDMUND LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM Active Speaker 8
6 ASSEMBLING THE LOGOS 1N WITH LOGOS 2N Lay out the frame elements on the floor with the base in its final location. There are four adjustable feet located on the base, which support the frame. Attach the Logos 2N (with its assembled long pointed bar) to the Logos-Frame using four aluminum black spacers, four rounded head screws (M6x80) and four steel ring ( 18mm) provided. The spacer should be inserted between the frame and the speaker and the steel ring should be placed between the screw and the frame (see page 13). You may now stabilize the frame and Logos 2N assembly using the four adjustable feet attached to the frame. If the floor surface is covered with thick carpet, the pointed bar may not be long enough to pierce through to the hard surface below (essential for good grounding). In this case, remove the pointed bar and insert a steel ring ( 18mm) provided, between the bar and the Logos 2N enclosure to re-establish the bar as the primary evacuation point. Two people are required to lift the Logos 1N plus bar assembly into place. The lower point of the Logos 1N bar is to be inserted into the screw-head located on the top of the Logos 2N. Have one person guide the bar into place without scratching the surface. Once the Logos 1N is in position with the bar point resting in the screw-hole on top of the Logos 2N, one person must hold the speaker in place whilst the other attaches the two lateral arms to the sides of the speaker. For each side, use one long steel screw (M6x70), two plastic rings, two gold serrated rollers, two teflon rings and one cylindrical serrated roller (see page 11). Be careful not to drop the serrated roller onto the Logos 2N as this could damage the surface. Do not over-tighten. GOLDMUND LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM Active Speaker 9
6 ASSEMBLING THE LOGOS 1N WITH LOGOS 2N (Ctd.) You can now attach the Logos 1N (with its assembled long pointed bar) to the Logos- Frame using two aluminum black spacers, two rounded head screws (M6x70) and two steel ring ( 18mm) provided. The spacer should be inserted between the frame and the speaker and the steel ring should be placed between the screw and the frame (see page 13). The assembly stage is now complete. GOLDMUND LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM Active Speaker 10

This action will avoid any loss and possible damage of the parts. L o g o s 1 N GOLDMUND LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM Active Speaker 11

9 LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM LOCALISATION In stereo, the ideal location of the speaker in the room has to be found by experiment. Avoid standing the speakers in the corner of the room and try to set them away from any adjacent wall by 60cm (2 feet) minimum. If the room size permits, try separating the speakers by minimum 3m (10 ) to provide a large stereo image. To arrive to the listener simultaneously, the speaker should be aligned to be at an equal distance from the listener position and each speaker - see the schematic below: Left Right Listening position Depending on the room acoustics, the speakers may be standing parallel or slightly tilted toward the listener. GOLDMUND LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM Active Speaker 14
10 CONNECTING THE BUILT-IN AMPLIFIER The LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM inputs are unbalanced digital input (S/PDIF). The LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM uses a full digital filtering, the crossover is made by software inside the acoustic Processor, as a Metis 8, 10, Mimesis 15, 16.5, 32.5 with the standard or personalized configuration file provided by the Goldmund Universal Configurator. The signal is treated with the Proteus technology and includes all its corrections. The LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM has no active filtering (hardware crossover). Only an official Goldmund representative is able to load and change the configuration file into your acoustic processor, do not change it by yourself. A wrong setting can damage the speakers; the warranty will not cover any factory change without the approval of an official Goldmund representative. ATTENTION LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM can only work in association with a Goldmund Acoustic Processor. In case you desire to use your system in a full Proteus correction, we remind you that each speaker will need an output of the acoustic processor, a total of four outputs will be needed to make a proper stereo system. For more details, contact your Goldmund official representative. Connect the digital cables to the digital input connector as per the Goldmund Universal Configuration wiring schematic. The LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM is automatically powered ON when they receive modulation. When the digital input does not receive any data for 3 seconds, the speakers are muted. They are de-muted as soon as a signal is present on the digital input and the orange led will light up. Main power must not to be removed while the LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM is not muted (please wait 3 seconds after the music stops before removing the mains power). GOLDMUND LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM Active Speaker 15
11 RUNNING-IN THE LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM The LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM has been tested at the factory. However, like any high quality speaker system, the Logos 1N2N needs several days playing music before reaching the top sonic quality they are built for. The few first hours can be very frustrating for a demanding listener. Do not hesitate to let them play quite loud for some time before attempting any real system tuning or position adjustment. 12 MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING To clean the metal case of the speakers, you can use a clean, soft, damp cloth. Dampen with water or a mild detergent solution. Avoid abrasive or harsh cleansers (e.g. Products containing sodium carbonate). The identification plate is plated with precious metal. Simply clean it with a soft cloth, without any chemical solution. GOLDMUND LOGOS 1N-2N SPEAKER SYSTEM Active Speaker 16
