4 15 TIPS YOU LL LOVE Become a Hopper pro. Here are 15 quick tips and features that will have you surfing through your Hopper with stylish ease. Lose Your Remote? Press the LOCATE REMOTE button on the front panel of your Hopper receiver, and in a few seconds the remote will begin to beep to help you locate it. NEXT EPISODE Binge-Watching is Awesome! It s so easy to spend a day, night, or weekend just camped on your couch bingeing on a great show. The Hopper organizes DVR recordings and On Demand programs by season and episode. When you finish an episode, a pop-up will appear showing the next available episode to watch. It s like you barely even have to move (OK, not sure that s a good thing, but you get the idea.)! Never Change Inputs! Netflix fans will love the fact that you don t have to use a different remote or switch inputs when using Netflix. Access Netflix from the app on the Main Menu, or simply go to Channel 370. And now, Netflix is automatically integrated into your search functionality for even easier browsing. (See Page 10.) Watch in One Room, Finish in Another. You can start a movie in the family room and finish it in the bedroom without missing a minute. Got a Question? We ve Got an Answer. Help is always available via screen overlays to quickly learn more about Hopper s many features. You can also get step-bystep tutorials by accessing the Help feature via the main menu. 6 HOME The Home tab is all about you. It s your starting point to quickly find what s on now and to see what s coming on later. Access the Home Screen To access the Home screen, press HOME on your remote. Content Tabs Content tabs help you quickly find the programming you re searching for from sports to shows and movies. 6

8 GUIDE The Hopper s high-definition Guide displays what s airing on TV now and what s coming up in the next nine days. The Guide provides full listings for all your channels. Access the Guide Press GUIDE on your remote control. Use CHANNEL UP and CHANNEL DOWN to navigate, or enter a channel number to go directly to that channel. Customize the Guide When in the Guide, simply press OPTIONS on your remote to customize your Guide experience: Create Favorite Channels Lists Every member of your family can create their list of favorite channels so only those channels appear when browsing in the Guide. Only See Channels You Subscribe To Display all DISH channels or just the channels you subscribe to with the All Subscribe option. Access Your Guide Settings With the Guide Settings option, you can make text larger, change the order networks are listed, hide adult channels, and more. 8

9 Info 8 Guide Shortcuts You Need to Know 1 SKIP FORWARD on your remote skips forward 2½ hours at a time.* 2 When you press and hold SKIP FORWARD, it advances the guide 24 hours at a time.* 3 Press INFO to see a pop-up with more programming details. 4 For fast channel-surfing, press and hold CHANNEL UP or CHANNEL DOWN. 5 To record a program, press SELECT for recording options. 6 To return to Live TV, press BACK/LIVE TV. 7 When you see a + next to a channel, you have additional channel options to choose from. Press SELECT on your remote to expand and collapse those channels (for example, Channel 99 includes more than 70 channels of SiriusXM). 8 Make the font larger by pressing OPTIONS on your remote and selecting Guide Settings > Larger Text. *NOTE: This reflects when the Guide is set to the default font size of Small. Creating and Using Favorite Channels Lists 1 While in the guide, press OPTIONS and select Favorite Channels > Favorite Settings. 2 You can customize up to four lists. Start by selecting List 1 and editing the name of the list and the channels included by following the onscreen prompts. 3 Once you ve established your Favorites Lists, you can select what lineup appears in the Guide by pressing OPTIONS on your remote when you are in the Guide. QUICK TIP Choose between Classic and Modern themes to find the right colors for reading the Guide on any TV. 9

10 MENU Info Consider the Menu as the control center of the Hopper. This is where you navigate through your content options, personalize your settings, manage your account, and more. First, let s get you familiar with how your Hopper is set up. The top of the screen serves as your orientation guide. The gray tab shows what content category you are currently in. The middle of your screen is navigable space. Use your remote to highlight the feature you wish to access and press SELECT. Trending See what everyone is watching locally and nationally, so you never miss another big event. PrimeTime Anytime This exclusive feature lets you record every primetime show on ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX. Video On Demand Select from thousands of movies and TV series. From New Releases to Free On Demand, enjoy content on your schedule. DVR Record and access up to 2,000 hours of content and watch it from any room in the house. Guide Find out what s on now and what s coming up. The Guide provides a full listing of all your channels. Netflix Seamlessly transition from DISH programming to your Netflix account without changing the input on your TV. Search Quickly find what you re looking for. With Search, you can find content by a title of a movie, TV show, or by actor name. Settings Access this control panel to personalize your experience and get the most out of your Hopper. Help Find frequently asked questions, troubleshoot a problem and learn how to maximize your entertainment experience. My Account Use this feature to manage your DISH account and see recent Pay-Per-View and On Demand purchases. Weather Get the current weather, forecasts, conditions, and alerts for your town and favorite cities. Apps Find games, music, sports, news, and entertainment, or just socialize with your friends. 10

11 Not Sure What to Watch? SEARCH With Search, you can find what you re looking for on Live TV, in your DVR, and On Demand by entering just three characters. The Hopper s intuitive search functionality even finds things that aren t scheduled yet. The Search screen is prepopulated with the most popular search results at that time. Just press on your remote to see the hottest titles listed. To Start a Search Press on your remote. 1 Enter a title, actor, sport, team, or channel using the arrow buttons on your remote. Results will begin displaying as soon as you start typing. 2 To choose a displayed result, press the corresponding number on your remote. QUICK TIP From your search results, you can set recordings for a show, sport, or team across all channels. 11

12 DVR Watch, record, pause, and rewind Live TV on any TV in your house with the Hopper. Plus, your DVR allows you to record up to 500 HD hours of your favorite programs and watch them from any room in the house. Pause or Rewind Live TV Press PAUSE on your remote to momentarily suspend Live TV, then press PLAY to resume. If you missed something and want to see it again, press SKIP BACK to go backward 10 seconds at a time. PrimeTime Anytime All your PrimeTime Anytime recordings are found in this folder. Recordings can be grouped alphabetically or by recording date. DVR Recording Options Recorded Date Sort Sort your programming either by date, where the most recent recording is listed first, or alphabetically by show title. Move to Trash Highlight the program you wish to delete and press RECALL on your remote. Manage Recordings Add your recordings to folders, protect your shows from being deleted, and transfer programs to an external drive. Manage Folders Create personalized folders to organize your recorded content. 12

13 Info Tabs Recordings View your entire library of recorded content. Schedule See which programs are scheduled to record each day. Timers See and manage your complete list of scheduled recordings. Trash Access programs in the trash, then press the OPTIONS button to restore or delete them permanently. DVR Storage Indicator See how much DVR space you have left. 13

14 PRIMETIME ANYTIME Info PrimeTime Anytime gives you the power to record all the series specials, sporting events, movies actually, whatever is airing on ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX during primetime hours. Setting Up and Using PrimeTime Anytime Is Easy! Just press HOME twice on your remote, then select PRIMETIME ANYTIME and press OPTIONS. This menu will allow you to turn on the PrimeTime Anytime feature, customize the networks you wish to record, determine which days to record, as well as specify how many days you wish to keep the recordings. To view your shows, press DVR on your remote and select PRIMETIME ANYTIME. When you open your PrimeTime Anytime folder, press OPTIONS on your remote to group your recordings alphabetically or by recording date. Instantly skip commercials on select PrimeTime Anytime recorded shows that display a red kangaroo before the title or on the show thumbnail. Enable AutoHop by selecting YES when prompted. 14

15 TV ACTIVITY Info The Hopper comes equipped with three tuners (a tuner gives you the ability to watch and record programs). If you enable the PrimeTime Anytime feature, one of those tuners will be used to record all of the primetime shows on each of the four major networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX), and the other tuners can be used to record individual shows on whichever channels you choose. When all of the Hopper s tuners are in use, a TV Activity screen will appear, asking you to press SELECT and then determine what shows to record. QUICK TIP While watching live TV, press OPTIONS and select TV Activity to quickly review what s currently being recorded and watched. 15

16 MOVIES Some people really appreciate the nitty-gritty details behind a movie, as well as how critics rated it. Hopper helps by providing trusted information from Rotten Tomatoes and Common Sense Media. Age Find out quickly what the experts at Common Sense Media deem age-appropriate. In this example, the movie is appropriate for ages 12 and up. Summary Get a detailed description of the movie, including cast and movie length. Cast Find what other TV shows and movies all of your favorite stars are in. Rent If you are accessing On Demand movies, your screen will indicate if the title is free or what the charge will be. Recommendations If you like this movie, we re willing to bet you might be interested in a few of these other titles. 16

17 Parental Guide Content Ratings Content Ratings provided for each category. Reviews from Rotten Tomatoes The tomato and popcorn box rating system comes from the web s leading aggregator of movie and TV reviews. Here s what it means: Certified Fresh At least five top critics and multiple reviews were 75% or higher. Fresh Scores of 60% or higher. Rotten Scores of 59% or lower. Audience Score Percentage of users who rated a movie positively. Press SKIP FORWARD and SKIP BACK on your remote to navigate the Summary, Cast, Reviews, and Parental Guide tabs. 17

18 VIDEO ON DEMAND Info Video On Demand allows you to watch thousands of movie titles and TV series whenever you want. Your Video On Demand is sorted into content shelves, which group content into convenient categories such as Free Movies, Movies for Rent, Content For Kids, and more. Why Use On Demand? I ve got a specific program in mind. Search for a movie or TV program directly and browse the results featured in your Video On Demand library. I have a general idea of what to watch. Or, for more generalized categories, access Video On Demand and browse our preset categories. I have no idea what to watch. That s no problem, you can browse thousands of titles until something jumps out at you! Five Ways to Access Video On Demand 1 Press HOME twice on your remote, then select VIDEO ON DEMAND. 2 Press HOME on your remote, then select MENU > VIDEO ON DEMAND. 3 Search for a movie, show, actor or general theme. 4 Go to Channel 1 or Channel When in the Guide, some channels have their own On Demand option, which displays all the programs and features available. QUICK TIP Some programs displayed on the Guide will have a play button icon, which allows you to start playing from the beginning. 18

19 DISH ANYWHERE Watch all your TV anywhere! DISH Anywhere is available for free on your smartphone, tablet, or laptop. And it s not just Live TV, either you can access all of your recorded shows and On Demand, too. You can also transfer your DVR recordings to your phone or tablet and watch them offline when you don t have an internet connection. Stay informed, be entertained, or even socialize with your friends all from the comfort of your couch. To access the Apps menu, press APPS on your remote and use the touchpad to select the app you wish to access. Enjoy your Netflix subscription without having to switch inputs or use a different remote control. Netflix can be accessed through the Apps menu or directly through Channel 370. 21 Game Finder gives you up-to-theminute box scores and lets you tune in to live events or schedule recordings for upcoming games. My Sports Customize by selecting your favorite teams in each sport. Game Finder will remember your favorites and have them show up at the top of the list. Can t get easier than that! Ratings Get an excitement rating for live and future games. Excitement ratings are based on factors such as player records, rivalry levels, score, and more. You can sort games by rating or time. Scores & Stats You can watch one game while getting a detailed box score of another. Get your current weather forecast, conditions, and alerts for your town or favorite cities. Locations Prepare for vacations and business trips by creating a list of locations to monitor. Add to this list by entering the city and state or ZIP code. Forecasts Get current weather readings as well as hourly and 5-day forecasts that predict the temperature, chance of precipitation, wind, and cloud coverage. Alerts Get significant National Weather Service alerts and updates. Zona Futbol Can t live without soccer? Keep up with scores, exciting matches, and your favorite teams. TV Guardian Automatically detects and filters profanity and offensive language from movies and TV. Hopper Arcade From Blackjack to Scrambler and more, play interactive games that require no extra equipment. 21

22 SETTINGS Here s a deeper dive into your settings, where, just like a smartphone, you can customize your Hopper according to your personal preferences. Use your remote to highlight the setting that you wish to access and press SELECT. Parental Controls Parental locks allow you to limit the programming that can be watched on your receiver. Favorite Channels Set up and manage lists of your favorite channels. Internet Connect your receiver to the internet so you can stream Netflix, access On Demand and apps such as Game Finder, and more. Bluetooth Audio Pair and manage your Bluetooth audio devices, including your wireless headphones, sound bars, and speakers. Remote Control Configure your TV to work with your DISH remote, control volume, teach the remote new commands, and more. TV Set resolution, aspect ratio, and adjust the screen for an optimum viewing experience. 22

23 Info Accessibility Customize and see a summary of all your accessibility-related features such as text to speech, magnification, audio description, and more. Guide Set your preferences for how channels are ordered and displayed in the program guide. PrimeTime Anytime Change your settings to enable PrimeTime Anytime recordings, select which channels to record, which days to record, and how long you want to keep recordings. Closed Captioning Turn on and off Closed Captioning (CC), and customize text size, color, and background. Menu Language See Hopper menus in English or in Spanish. Secondary Audio Listen to programs with descriptive audio or in an alternate language when available. Power Control the amount of time to wait before the Hopper enters standby mode. Appearance Personalize the appearance of the Guide, menus, and other screens to suit your tastes. Notifications Choose whether to hide or show notifications. Live TV notifications include Caller ID, shared viewing, and more. Timer Defaults Customize the default settings for timers you create. You can add a few minutes of recording time to the beginning or end of a program. OTA Antenna If you have an over-the-air (OTA) module, scan for local channels to include in your program guide. Audio Output Set preferences for Dolby Digital and other audio output settings. Mobile Devices Pair a mobile device to your Hopper in order to use other compatible apps to enhance your viewing experience. Phone If you have a rotary phone or require a prefix code to dial out, customize your settings to use your phone line with your receiver. 23

24 PARENTAL CONTROLS The Hopper gives you all sorts of options when it comes to establishing control over what programming and channels are accessible to everyone in your house. Here are just a few of the things you can customize: Restrict purchases Hide adult programs Lock specific channels Hide locked channels from your guide Restrict TV or movie ratings Limit what apps your kids can access Protect kids from coarse language, sex, and violence Allow kids to watch only what s suitable for their age Setting Up Parental Controls 1 Press HOME twice on your remote and select Settings, then Parental Controls. 2 Select your desired restrictions from the options onscreen. 3 Before you can add restrictions, you will need to create a four-digit passcode. While parental controls are on, this passcode must be entered whenever you wish to access restricted video content, channels, or apps.
