4 INSTALLATION and INTERNAL SETUP AD1476 INSTALLATION This installation should be made by qualified service personnel and should conform to all local codes. Safeguards must be taken to avoid unintentional operation by employees and maintenance personnel working about the premises, by falling objects, by customers, by building vibration, and by similar causes. Mounting Tabletop and rack-mount models are available and may be mounted in a convenient location near associated monitors. Tabletop models are 1.88" high and 17" wide. Rack-mount models are denoted with the suffix "R" and are designed for use in standard EIA 19" racks and are 1.75" high and 19" wide. Avoid heat sources or poorly ventilated racks. Operating temperatures must be held within a reasonable range to ensure proper operation. INTERNAL SETUP Before connection and operation of the SuperQuad HR, internal jumpers (see Figure 2) may need to be reset for specific user requirements. These jumpers are factory set for most user needs, as indicated below and in Figure 2. Color Filters - Jumpers J4, 27 The SuperQuad does not pass color signals to the Quad output. In order to use signals from color cameras as inputs to the SuperQuad, it may be necessary to reduce the color sub-carrier interference. Internal filters are provided and may be activated by moving internal jumpers. These filters do not affect color signals on a full-screen Call output. The factory setting of these jumpers is "OUT", for black and white cameras. Jumper J4 reduces the color sub-carrier interference from Video Inputs 1, 5, 3, and 7; J27 reduces the color sub-carrier interference from Video Inputs 2, 6, 4, and 8. Vertical Lock - Jumper J3 CAUTION - Due to the presence of non-insulated components with hazardous voltages, the following internal adjustments should be performed by qualified service personnel only. The video output of the SuperQuad can be vertically locked to either the AC line or to Video Input 1. As shipped, it is locked to the AC line. It can be locked to Video Input 1 by moving the SYNC jumper (J3) located on the PCB. Expand Sync - J29 When using certain video cassette recorders, it may be necessary to place the J29 jumper in the "ZOOM" position for increased picture stability. 5 AD1476 CONNECTIONS Figure 3 - AD 1476 Rear Panel CONNECTIONS All connections are made on the rear panel of the AD1476, shown in Figure 3 above. Typical connections of the AD 1476 are shown in the Appendix. Video Cabling Use a good grade of 75-ohm coaxial cable such as Belden 8241 or equivalent with BNC connectors for all video signals. VCR Input One BNC connector, labeled VCR IN / EXPAND, is provided for VCR playback functions. Connect a video cable from the VCR video output to the BNC connector EXPAND. Alarm Inputs The ALARMS connector pins (Alarm pins 1-8), located on the rear panel, are used for the input of alarm signals from user-supplied alarm devices. Alarm inputs to the ALARMS connector call the corresponding Video Input to the CALL Monitor output. Alarm inputs can be set as either closures or opens to ground, through the ALARMS setup programming, page 11. Alarm closures to ground must have a resistance of 500 ohms or less; alarm opens a resistance of 100,000 ohms or more. Twisted pair may be used for wiring from the alarm devices. Connect alarm contacts to the ALARMS input pins corresponding to the camera numbers connected to Video Inputs. The alarm contact returns should all return to the ground pin (pin 9) of the Alarm Connector. Alarm Output Relay Three rear panel terminals, next to the ALARMS pins, provide access to Form C relay contacts which are activated during alarms. The terminal contacts provided are: normally open, normally closed, and common. Connect these relay contacts for control of a VCR or other devices. Contact rating of this relay is: VAC or VAC. RS-232 The SuperQuad HR may be controlled via RS-232 connection from a keyboard, terminal, or computer. Refer to page 13 for control of the SuperQuad via this connection. RS-232 connections are made to the RS-232, 8-pin modular phone jack on the rear panel. Pinouts are shown below. Pin Function Pin Function 1 NC 5 RCD 2 GND 6 NC 3 NC 7 GND 4 XMIT 8 NC NC = No Connection As viewed from the rear of the SuperQuad, pin 1 is the rightmost phone jack connector pin. The SuperQuad is configured as RS-232 DTE equipment. The communication parameters for the SuperQuad are: 8-bit data word, no parity, 1 stop bit, and 1200 Baud. The SuperQuad does not transmit any information back to the controlling machine, thus only a two-wire serial connection is required. Connect the transmit wire of the RS-232 source to pin 5, RCD, of the SuperQuad modular jack. Connect the ground of the RS-232 source to pin 2, GND, of the SuperQuad modular jack. Using 18 AWG, shielded, computer-grade cable, direct connections can be made over distances of 1000 feet (330 m) or less. Beyond that distance, links using asynchronous line drivers, short-haul modems, or dial-up modems must be used. For connecting an AD1475RT keyboard to the SuperQuad, the keyboard is supplied with appropriate cables for plug-in to this modular phone jack. Refer to the AD1475RT Installation Manual for further information on keyboard connections. A typical connection of the 1475RT is shown in the Appendix. Power The operating voltage is shown on the rear panel. Connect the appended 3-wire cord to the required power source. AD1476 models require 120V, 60 Hz AD1476X models require 230V, 50 Hz 120V, 50 Hz and 230V, 60 Hz combinations are available

6 CONNECTIONS AD1476 Video Inputs Four pairs of BNC connectors (1-5, 3-7, 2-6, 4-8), located on the rear panel, are used for video inputs to the SuperQuad (see Figure 3, page 3). All video inputs must be RS-170 standard, 2:1 interlaced, composite video signals. The camera video connected to a particular BNC is automatically assigned to the corresponding on-screen camera number. That is, a camera connected to BNC 1 is automatically assigned to the on-screen camera number 1, a camera connected to BNC 2 is automatically assigned to the on-screen camera number 2, etc. Each pair of BNC connectors is associated with one quadrant of the Quad format display, as indicated by the legend above each slide switch. Camera 1 or 5 is displayed in the upper left quadrant, camera 2 or 6 is displayed in the upper right quadrant, etc. Refer to Figure 4 below for illustration of the Quad formats. Four video inputs make up one Quad display. Video Inputs 1 thru 4 are displayed in Quad A; video inputs 5 thru 8 are displayed in Quad B. Refer to Figure 4. Four 3-position slide switches located on the rear panel, one under each pair of BNC connectors, configure the input termination of each pair in one of three ways: LOOP 75, DUO, or Loop HiZ. LOOP 75 - Internally loops the video from the lower numbered BNC to the higher-numbered BNC of the pair. The lower-number input BNC is terminated in 75 ohms. The higher-number BNC must not be used. Figure 5 - LOOP 75 DUO - Separates each input BNC pair, terminates each input in 75 ohms, and makes them independent video inputs. Both BNCs of the pair may be used as separate inputs. QUAD A QUAD B Figure 4 - Quad A and Quad B Formats Typical configurations of video inputs using these connections are shown in the Appendix. Figure 6 - DUO LOOP HiZ - Same as LOOP '75, except the lower-number BNC is unterminated (HiZ). The higher-number BNC must be looped to a properly terminated external video device. Figure 7 - LOOP HiZ Each input pair of connectors may be set for a different termination. Any combination of the above settings is valid on ;she four pairs of inputs as long as each input is properly terminated

7 AD1476 CONNECTIONS Video Outputs Two Video Out BNCs, labeled CALL and QUAD, are used for video outputs to monitors, VCRs, etc. Each output must be terminated in 75 ohms at the end of the cable run. The SuperQuad HR can be used with one or two monitors. If only one monitor is used, connect it to the CALL output; this permits the display of either the camera sequences or the Quad display. If two monitors are used, connect one to the CALL output, which can be used as a sequence monitor, and one to the QUAD output, which always presents the Quad format. The output configurations of varied camera connections are described below. Typical configurations of monitors and VCRs using these connections are illustrated in the Appendix. 4-Camera Configuration In a four camera configuration, cameras 1 through 4 are displayed as Quad A; Quad B is not displayed. The layout of the Quad A display on the QUAD monitor and the sequence of displays on the CALL monitor are illustrated in Figure 8. 9 AD1476 GENERAL OPERATION GENERAL OPERATION OPERATION with 1-4 Cameras The SuperQuad HR system can be used with one or two monitors. If only one monitor is used, it should be connected to the CALL Monitor output. The CALL Monitor displays either: A Call Sequence, defined at setup (page 10), of full-screen camera pictures with or without the defined Quad Display. An operator-selected, full-screen picture of any camera or the defined Quad Display. When one or more cameras are alarmed: The Alarm pushbutton blinks whether or not alarm handling is enabled. The Alarm cameras are identified on the screen by an "A". The QUAD Monitor displays either the programmed Quad Display or a Quad frozen at the first alarm (the frozen Quad is identified on screen with the message "FROZEN". The QUAD Monitor always displays the defined Quad display. SUPERQUAD OPERATION - 8 Cameras Eight camera operation is identical to the four camera operation, except: The Quad Display is defined at setup (page 10) as a DuoQuad sequence of Quad A and Quad B. Cameras 1 thru 4 are displayed in Quad A. Cameras 5 thru 8 are displayed in Quad B. VIDEO LOSS DETECTION Loss of video at any input is automatically detected by the SuperQuad. A blinking "VIDEO LOSS" message is displayed in the appropriate quadrant of the Quad display, and the corresponding quadrant is blanked. The last picture received before the loss of video is stored in memory and may be retrieved by pressing the "FREEZE" pushbutton. ALARM HANDLING When alarm handling is enabled, the ALARMS pushbutton is illuminated and the `*' character appears in the bottom center of both the Call and Quad displays. Figure 13 - One or More Cameras Alarmed The CALL Monitor displays either a full-screen picture of the alarmed camera, or a sequence of multiple alarmed cameras. Alarm dwell time is fixed at two seconds. The programmed Quad display or frozen Quad may be set up to sequence with these full-screen pictures of alarmed cameras. Alarm clearance can be set up as one of the following (see ALARMS setup programming, page 11): Instant (I): Clears the alarm when the alarm input clears. Delay (D): Holds alarm for 20 seconds after the alarm input clears. The Acknowledge button does not override or shorten the 20-second delay. Acknowledge (A): Holds the alarm until it is acknowledged by pressing the ALARMS pushbutton. If more than one alarm is present, or the Quad display is included in the alarm sequence, the ALARMS button must be pressed while the alarmed camera to be cleared is being displayed on the CALL Monitor in the alarm sequence. This allows the selective clearance of individual alarms as they are being examined. When alarms are cleared, the system returns to the operating mode prior to the alarm. The ALARMS pushbutton flashes to indicate the presence of an alarm whether or not alarms are enabled. Figure 12 - Alarm Handling Enabled

Function ASCII Code Connect/Login to SuperQuad(s) L ID# Disconnect L A CALL Camera 1 K 1 CALL Camera 2 K 2 CALL Camera 3 K 3 CALL Camera 4 K 4 CALL Camera 5 K 5 CALL Camera 6 K 6 CALL Camera 7 K 7 CALL Camera 8 K 8 CALL Quad A* K A CALL Quad B K B ALTERNATE Quad Pages (A/B) ** K Q RUN K R HOLD K H FREEZE K F UNFREEZE K U ENABLE ALARMS K L DISABLE ALARMS K D ACKNOWLEDGE ALARMS K C EXPAND K X EXIT EXPAND K E * Or the Programmed Quad Display ** If set for Manual Mode Each command code sent to the SuperQuad is a 2-character pair, with no spaces between the characters. For example, the command to switch to camera 3 is "K3" and the command to enter Expand mode is "KX". UNIT IDENTIFICATION (ID#) For remote control, each SuperQuad is programmed with a Unit Identification number from 0 to 9 (0 to 8 when used with the AD1475RT Remote Control Unit). As delivered, the SuperQuad Unit ID is set to 0, which is the global response mode. The global response mode allows the SuperQuad to respond to command codes sent to any Unit ID on the RS-232 line. The Unit ID of the SuperQuad can be changed by Setup Mode Security Options menu, page 9. The Unit ID number transmitted in the connect code (L ID#) directs the specified SuperQuad to respond to all subsequent command codes until a disconnect code is received. When the Unit ID transmitted in the connect code is 0 (i.e., LO), all SuperQuads on the RS-232 line respond to subsequent command codes until a disconnect is received. KEYBOARD CONTROL The AD1475RT keyboard can control one or more SuperQuads via the RS-232 interface. Dedicated buttons are provided on the keyboard for all SuperQuad functions except the Setup Mode menus. These menus can be accessed only from the SuperQuad front panel. Refer to the AD1475RT Installation Manual for specific information on the use of this keyboard to identify and control the SuperQuad. COMPUTER LOGIN and CONTROL When connected to a terminal or computer, the controlling system must first connect/login to the SuperQuad. There are two methods provided: individual unit or broadcast login. Prior to login, set the SuperQuad Unit ID using the Security Options menu in Setup Mode, page 9. (As shipped, the Unit ID is set to 0.) For individual SuperQuad control, each unit on the RS-232 line should be set to a unique Unit ID. For individual unit login: This method directs command codes to a specified SuperQuad, and to any SuperQuad set to a Unit ID of 0 (global response). 1. To login for individual unit control, first send an ASCII "L" immediately followed by an ASCII Unit ID number. For example, assume the Unit B) is set to 4; to connect to this unit, send the login code "L4". 2. At this point, the user or program can send any pair of "K" command codes desired. 3. To stop sending commands to the specific unit, log out by sending the code "LA". For broadcast login: This method allows the user to control a single SuperQuad without knowing its Unit ID, or to control all SuperQuads on the RS-232 line. 1. To login for broadcast control of one or more SuperQuads, first send an ASCII "LO". 2. At this point, the user or program can send any pair of "K" command codes desired. For example, to send a broadcast message for all SuperQuads to switch to Camera 1, the ASCII character sequence would be "LOKI". 3. To stop sending commands in the broadcast mode, log out by sending the code "LA".
