Get Paid To Write Greeting Card Lines I always love interesting ways of making cash from writing. Not all these ways are career or business building. But some are fun little side projects, something that you can do while watching a show or lounging around at home. This is definitely one of those methods and a great way to make some extra cash on the side. In this guide I ll cover: The resources where you can submit your card lines, along with the best places to submit to for cash. The step by step method to increasing your chances of making money The Fast Line strategy that helps you come up with ideas for greeting card lines With that said, let s dive in!

The 10 Top Resources To Submit Your Lines I ve compiled some of the best locations to submit greeting card lines and with these, you can make money. Before you submit to any of these places, be damn sure you read the submission guidelines and submit them perfectly. We will cover more of this later, but 70% of the reason everyone fails to make be chosen was because they didn t read or follow the guidelines. 1. Blue Mountain Arts 300 per poem and 50 dollars per card, one of the highest paying. They want only sincere sentiments written from a unique perspective, and they do not accept rhymes, religious verse, one-liners, or humor. 2. Oatmeal Studios 75 dollars per submission, another well paying one. Targeting family friendly humor, they appeal to a wide range of readers.

3. Calypso Cards Selfish Kitty is the brand that usually accepts card submissions. They are witty and usually dry humor. Sometimes insulting but in a classy way. Pay is 50 dollars per submission. 4. Viabella They accept both art and content, one of the few who does both. Pay varies, depending on the amount of submissions. Humor pays more, art earns more than content. If you re an artist as well, you can make additional money here. 5. Noble Works Pay varies. They feature funny lines, along the lines of Santa Claus getting back tattoos. Their tagline on the website? Make America Greet Again. That s the type of humor. 6. RSVP They are big about supporting their writers and artists (another one that also takes art). The pay varies but they value themselves as funny, sweet and for any occasion. 7. Shade Tree Greetings Pays via gift card of 100 dollars. Meh, I included it because if you want 100 bucks of free greeting cards for some reason, you could submit here.

8. Smart Alex - Dirty, smartass humor. Absolutely hilarious cards and they pay 5o to 75 bucks per accepted submission! 9. Card Gnome - More like an etsy for greeting cards, they pay minimum of 10 cents per sold card. You make the designs and the content, they do everything else. Pay could be better, but if you sell a crap ton, there is potential for a lot more money. 10. The Greeting Card Shop - Same as Card Gnome, but they pay 24 cents per sold card.

How to Get Your Content Accepted by the Card Companies The #1 way to get your content accepted...read the submission guidelines. Blue Mountain Arts submission guidelines are an excellent example of what card companies are looking for. Note, it isn t about humor vs no-humor (though that matters on the individual sites), it s more about a UNIQUE VOICE and interesting ways of saying old things, but new and different. Cliche writing...at any of the sites will be rejected, period. And most authors submit cliched writing, which is why 99% are rejected. But we aren t going to do that, and below I m going to show you ways to spice up these old sayings into new, beautifully poetic work. Just remember, each site is different. Some don t want fluffy language, they might want witty humor.

It s a damn good idea to look through their store and see what cards they are already selling and the content on them! Again, this is something most authors don t bother with. So do your research. It pays! From Cliche to Fresh! There are tons of ways to go from cliche to fresh, but the easiest way is to express emotion and writing as if it s to a personal friend or family member Here is a cliche lines: I remember when you were a baby, you are my dream come true. Blah. Let s turn this into descriptive emotions: The first time my eyes saw you as a precious baby, tears of joy flowed down my cheek. I saw the potential for a great many things, but most importantly, my heart raced and my body ached to hold you. All else faded from my mind.

That might have been a bit much...let s trim it down so it s the most powerful in as few words as possible: My eyes saw your preciousness and joyful tears flowed down my cheek. My heart raced and my body ached to hold you...nothing else mattered You might be able to condense it further, but I liked that a lot. One key thing you want to keep in mind... think like a fiction author. SHOW. Don t TELL. He loved her. <- BLAH. As he looked at her, he felt his stomach tighten with butterflies. Time seemed to slow as his heart gained pace. His mouth gaped slightly as he began to run towards her. He desired to touch her skin, feel his lips on hers and hold her tight. His body demanded it happen. Again, a bit wordy...but the point stands. I m building a scene with emotions, describing the feelings (and actions) the character is experiencing.

How in the world did you do that, Rob?! It was simple. I closed my eyes and imagined having not seen my wife in years. I was at an airport...i imagined the desire I have - feeling her skin, running my hands through her hair...and then I captured the internal feelings: - Rapid heart rate - Butterflies - The NEED to touch her - The burning in the blood - The intense feelings of love and protection THAT is how you break out of cliched writing. There is something else you can do...break out the thesaurus and study other, more interesting words for common words such as love, friendship, desire, etc. On Wit and Humor A lot of these card sites want wit and humor. Some of it kids humor, some of it adult humor, some want variety.

Again, it pays to pay attention to the submission guidelines. However, the thing that usually defines humor, at its most basic, is the unexpected. We laugh at the unexpected. For example: my four year old has discovered she make her daddy laugh by walking up to me, looking completely serious and straight faced and then saying a body part (like boobies, elbows, stinky feet) very seriously. It almost always elicits a chuckle from me, especially the first few times she did it. How do we play that into greeting cards? Let s imagine an older person s birthday. Birthday cards for this age generally make fun of the person s age OR they are some sort of inspirational crap about getting older or wiser. So instead, let s skip that and do something different. When I think of an old person, I think of either: A sweet grandpa.

A crotchety old man who can get away with murder because, guys, he s just really old, cut him some slack So let s do something funny with that. With age comes knowledge...with experience comes wisdom to know how to use that knowledge. You re over 60 now so please use the experience and wisdom to yell at the damn neighbor kids to stop playing in our yards. They annoy the fuck out of me and you can do it without getting arrested. Not what is expected! Yeah - it s a bit crude with the language, but that s the point with some of these card sites. They want a bit more crude!

Other Hints and Tips 1. If you are rejected at one site, don t be afraid to submit it to another. Keep at it until all your options are exhausted. 2. Reuse content from other sources. If you re a fiction writer, you might be surprised how many great lines you have available to you. Conversely, your card writing might provide a lot of great lines for your books at a later date. This means while you are writing, you are doubling up on the earnings potential. Always be looking for opportunities like this! 3. Systemize! Once you find a card site that takes your work, see if you can regularly get accepted there. Nail down the thoughts and feelings they are trying to capture in their cards and keep submitting there.

You have a far greater chance of being accepted to a place a second time once you ve been accepted the first time. From there, develop a system for producing this content with regularity. With that said, it s time to go out and do it. Experience is the best teacher and you won t make the money reading! Try those top ten and see what you can do. Follow the tips and you ll be on your way! Thanks for downloading.
