Theisen "section. leader Founded in 1972, The Dale Warland Singers has emerged as one of the world's premier choral ensembles. Based in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota, the group has gained countless fans from nineteen years of concert tours, festival appearances, radio broadcasts and fifteen critically acclaimed recordings. Regarded as leaders in the intemational choral music scene, Dr. Warland and The Singers performed at the Second World Symposium on Choral Music in August, 1990 in Sweden and Finland. As the sole North American professional choir in residence at the festival, the ensemble featured American choral works, and joined with other leading choirs from around the world in a series of workshops, concerts and broadcast activities. The past November, The Dale Warland Symphonic Chorus joined the Minnesota Orchestra under the direction of Edo de Waart in a concert performance of Verdi's comic opera Falstaff at Carnegie Hall. Critics and music professionals intemationally hail The Singers for their artistic and technical virtuosity, praising especially the broad repertoire that ranges from sacred, classical, jazz and folk music to the most demanding atonal and 20th century a cappella selections. Regular commissioning projects have included such composers as Dominick Argento, George Shearing, Libby Larsen, Stephen Paulus, Lucas Foss and Peter Schickele.

English Translations and Program Notes l v' La Passeggiata (The Excursion) Gioacchino Rossini II Calm and serene the heavens, limpid the waves below us, sailing from shore to shore guided alone by love. To gentle winds and flowers we speak our words of love, all beating heartstogether to them respond in love. ],~ Winds now are blowing stronger, rippling the sea around us, winds now are whistling, winds now are blowing, quickly let us depart, move on; Ah! no, the moon appearing tums all our fear to gladness, in this delightful country we sing our songs of love. Epitaph for Moonlight R. Murray Schafer Epitaph is, in a sense, an exercise in ear training. There are no key signatures, bar lines, sharps or flats here--not a stave of conventionally notated music. The sopranos enter humming on a "medium high note," and the choir, divided into 16 parts, slides in behind on descending half-steps; if all is lined up properly this soft mash of sound evolves into a major triad. Within this context, the vocalists can alter text, pitches, and rhythms to create "the total effect (of)moonlight on water." The Rose John Paynter Of a rose singe we Misterium mirabile. (Marvelous mystery) This rose is red of colour bright, Thro' whom our joye gan alight Upon this Christmasse night, Claro David germine. (Of David's noble seed.) Of this rose was Christ ybore, To save mankind that was forlore, And us aile from sinnes sore. Prophetarum carmine. (As sung by the prophets.) 1 ']

This rose of floweres she is flower; She ne will fade for no shower; To sinful men she sent succour. Mira plenrtudtne. (Of wondrous fullness.) This rose is so fair of hue: In maid Mary that is so true Yborne was Lord of virtue, Salvator sine crimine. (Saviour without sin.) 1. Ejszaka (Night) Thomy huge jungles, mystery forests, infinite wildemess, Still! boundless and endless and still! Darkness. Night. 2. Reggel (Moming) Ring, tick -tock, tick -tock, bell! And the clock ticks wishing well. Tick -tock, bell! In the dawn, cock-a-doo-dle-doo, the cock cries and the duck too, in the dawn, cock-a-doo-dle-doo, the cock cries and the duck too. Two Choral Settings Gyorgy Ltgett Weep, ye children of Israel, weep all ye virgins, and bewail Jephte's only daughter with a song of mouming. Give me a good night and send me an angel to strengthen my heart.
