Manual 5. Operation 5.1. Main Time Normal Operation The main time mode is the mode where the time (HH:MM:SS), the date, month, year, and DOW (day of the week) can be displayed. Under non-radio control operation, the will operate like a normal clock displaying this mode. If the unit was synchronised successfully within 24 hours ago with radio control signal, the transmitter symbol and the synchronised country will also be displayed on this screen. Time zone indication if WWVB is selected Transmitter Tower present shows synchronisation took place within 24 hours ago DATE-MONTH, MONTH-DATE or YEAR possible to display in this area. DST ON/OFF Time zone indication US symbol present indicates US signal synchronised within 24 hours ago. Other possibilities include J6 (Japan), J4(Japan), D(Germany),GB (England) During Reception (Rx) The reception function is used to synchronise the to the time signal being transmitted from the local time signal transmitter. If reception was successful, the will show exactly the same time as is being transmitted from the local transmitter (=synchronised time).during radio control reception, whether manually activated or automatically activated, this mode will show various additional information. 1. The received BSI (bit strength indicator) This indication is an indication of how good the data is within the RF signal being received. It appears as a number on the top left hand corner ranging from 0 to 6, where 0 is the worst signal and 6 is the best signal. This indication is refreshed every second during reception 2. The received signal strength (FSI) This indication is a 4-digit number showing the approximate field strength of the received frequency. This 4-digit number is a field strength indication in uv and is refreshed every 3 seconds, giving out the average field strength over the past 3 seconds. 3. Successful country recognition of signal When reception has started and the signal is not yet recognised, the country symbol will flash as it tries to identify the signal. After the unit has recognised which signal it is receiving, this symbol will stop to flash. 4. Successful synchronisation to signal When the radio control signal is being received and no synchronisation has been possible yet, the transmitter symbol will flash. If after 30 minutes of reception, there is no synchronisation possible, the transmitter symbol will disappear. If within 20 minutes synchronisation is successfully done, the transmitter symbol will be permanent on until the next reception takes place. 5. RX indication Whenever RX is taking place, RX and the reception mode (indicated by flashing signal abbreviations) will be flashing on display to show that the unit is in RX mode. 9 of 24

During storing of data, the characters EEP will be flashing on the top right hand corner of the LCD as follows: BSI indication to show quality of signal received Field strength indication in µv Flashing EEP indicates storing data in process Flashing Rx indicates reception under progress Transmitter Tower present shows synchronisation took place within 24 hours ago Country recognition symbol indicates country recognition result Upon starting of this reception, the internal eeprom inside will be erased. Any previous data will be deleted and overwritten by present reception data. Upon both auto time out of reception (as defined in reception duration) and manual stop of reception (by pushing Rx button once), storing of data will stop and EEP will be permanently displayed on the top right hand corner of the LCD until next storing of data or after read of data (see next section). P, M, C, E Time zone indication if US time zone is set Shows some data is stored inside eeprom Shows time zone set Transmitter Tower present shows synchronisation took place within 24 hours ago Us symbol present indicates US signal synchronised within 24 hours ago. Other possibilities include J6 (Japan), J4 (Japan), D (Germany), GB (England) 22 of 24

Manual 5.6 Read out data from Upon press and hold of Tx button for more than 3 seconds, the data stored in can be retrieved and transferred to the RS-232 interface. When this operation is activated, the will first check whether the RS-232 port is connected to a PC or not, if not, it will display Err at top right hand corner of LCD for 10 seconds to show error connection but nothing will be erased or transferred. After 10 second, EEP will reappear to show that the data is still stored P, M, C, E Time zone indication if US time zone is set Shows error in connection of RS232 during data transfer Shows time zone set Transmitter Tower present shows synchronisation took place within 24 hours ago Us symbol present indicates US signal synchronised within 24 hours ago The process by which the confirms that there is a RS232 connection is as follows: 1. The will send the request stream 10101111 (0xAF) to the RS232 port in the first 10 seconds 2. Upon reception of this data stream by the PC, the PC must send within 10 seconds the acknowledgement stream 11111111 (0xFF) back to the 3. After acknowledging 0xFF, the will then transfer data to the PC When the RS-232 port is properly connected to a PC, then the will transfer the stored data from the eeprom to the RS-232 interface. At this time, the LCD top right corner will flash 232 to show data transfer in place and after transfer finish, these 3 characters will go blank. This means that the data has been completely transferred to the PC and the eeprom is now empty. transfers data to the PC in the following format (all actual data transfer is in binary format) P, M, C, E Time zone indication if US time zone is set Shows RS232 connection established and data is being transferred. After 10 seconds, this symbol will disappear. Shows time zone set Transmitter Tower present shows synchronisation took place within 24 hours ago Us symbol present indicates US signal synchronised within 24 hours ago 23 of 24
