Encore Practice Music: Spring 2018 (as of Jan-19-2018) Every Encore singer receives a practice CD tailored for the voice (s)he sings: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, or Bass. On the CD, there are multiple versions of each piece that we will be singing: o o Balanced = all parts singing as you would normally hear them in concert One Part Predominant = volume adjusted so that one part is louder than all the rest. For each piece, depending on the arrangement, there may be more than one part for each voice. For example, African Alleluia has three soprano parts: first, second and descant. For those who prefer to listen to their practice music on portable electronic devices (computers, ipads, tablets, smart phones), all the tracks on the CD are also available on this page of the Encore web site: www.encorecreativity.org/index.php/downloads-17285/category/52-encore-chorale-spring -2018-rehearsal-recordings If that long name is too hard to type, if you do a Google search for download encore spring 2018 rehearsal, the first link will take you to that page. No password is required. Please note that one of the nine pieces on the CD and on the web page (I Am In Need of Music) is no longer part of the concert. You can listen to it for fun, but please don t waste any time practicing it. For the eight pieces we will be singing, there are 57 individual tracks: #Trks Time Versions (in Addition to Balanced Voices ) African Alleluia 8 2:25 Soprano 1, 2 & Descant; Alto; Tenor; Bass 1 & 2 And So I Sing 8 3:09 Soprano 1 & 2; Alto 1 & 2; Tenor; Bass 1 & 2 Feel So Young 5 2:58 Soprano; Alto; Tenor; Base Prayer 6 4:13 Soprano 1 & 2; Alto; Tenor; Bass Sing On 9 2:53 Soprano 1 &2; Alto 1 & 2; Tenor 1 & 2; Bass 1 & 2 Swingin Saints Viva Musica 7 9 4:01 2:10 Soprano 1 &2; Alto; Tenor 1 & 2; Bass Soprano 1 &2; Alto 1 & 2; Tenor 1 & 2; Bass 1 & 2 West Side Story 5 7:36 Soprano; Alto; Tenor; Bass The following pages provide detailed directions on how to download pieces from the web site. The heading page where you download music www.encorecreativity.org/index.php/downloads-17285/category/52-encore-chorale-spring -2018-rehearsal-recordings looks like this: Screen #1: When the screen at right appears, click on the title of the particular recordings you want (Soprano, Alto, Tenor or Bass). In this example, we ll download an alto piece. When you click on alto recordings, Screen #2 (below) will appear. Screen #2: The pieces are sorted in alphabetical order by name, so you have to scroll up and down to find the specific piece you want. And because the names are very long, you ll have to hover the mouse over each name to see the name details in order to tell one version from another. In this example, we ll click on the Balanced-Voices version of African Alleluia, which will cause Screen #3 (shown on the next page) to appear. Screen #3: This applies to one individual piece. To just hear the piece (without downloading and permanently saving it to another device), click on the blue play arrow at the lower left. We ll click on the Download button at the upper right, and Screen #4 will appear. Screen #4: After clicking on Download, two choices appear. I don t know what happens if you click on Save to my Dropbox, but we ll click on Direct download, and then Screen #5 will appear. Screen #5: Depending on how your operating system has been configured, it may ask for permission to save the.mp3 file to your hard drive (so that you can prevent web sites from cluttering it up with junk you don t want). In this case, we ll click on OK to continue with the download, and Screen #6 will appear. C:\MUSIC\ENCORE\EncorePracticeMusic2018Spring.wpd January 19, 2018 Page 3 of 5
Screen #6: After we okay saving the file, we have to specify [a] where we want to put it and [b] what name we want to give it. In this example, all the.mp3 files are stored in a folder called Music\Encore\Audio\2018Spring Once we ve selected that folder, if we just click Save, the file will be stored with the name it has on the web site: African Alleluia SATB - Balanced Voices - Jay Althouse. However, those long names can be difficult to work with (in a lot of displays, you can t see the meaningful part of the names. Before we click on Save, we can modify the name to be anything we want as long is the name ends in.mp3" (which signals that it is an audio file). In case anybody has trouble with downloading, I have saved all the files from the web site on my computer with the short names shown on page 5. If you d like to transfer th lists all the track, Ishorter names that I find easier to use. If you have problems with downloading, please let me know and perhaps I can transfer the files you need to your computer via flash drive.
