5 PREACE The hymn festival The Way of Jesus provides a unique experience in hymn singing The congregation and choir sing ten hymns from various Christian traditions The accompaniments are arranged for organ or piano ( This Little Light of Mine ) and include in several cases optional handells and timpani A Narrator provides commentary on the ords and deeds of Jesus and also creates a transition from one hymn to the next The congregation should e encouraged to sing ith gusto It ould e good to ask them to heed John Wesley s challenge to his on congregation as found in his Select Hymns of 1760 They should e motivated to: sing all; sing lustily and ith a good courage; sing so as to make one clear melodious sound; sing in time; and aove all sing spiritually The conductor or another designated person should cue the congregation hen to sing and hen to stand or e seated Suggested ordings are found at the end of each reading To or more readers may alternate in reading the narration parts Contrasting male and female voices as ell as younger voices can e especially effective The narrators should not speak the scripture references that are in parentheses These pages may e reproduced for readers The designated choir stanzas in Alleluia!
