Town of Ballston Community Library Check us Out! 2008 Annual Report Mission Statement: The Town of Ballston Community Library shall develop and maintain facilities, resources, and services to meet the ongoing needs of all persons for education, personal enrichment and recreation. Librarians Karen DeAngelo and Rebecca Verhayden Darling have now worked in their new positions for one year, Karen as Director and Rebecca as Youth Services Librarian. Book Cake by Hannah!

A generous annual donation from Fred and Helen Baum allowed the library to bring in author Marion Blumenthal Lazan, host 2 memoir writing workshops, and purchase a movie license that allows us to show popular movies on the big screen in the community room. Town in Bloom volunteers and the Burnt Hills -Ballston Lake Rotary keep the library landscaping beautiful all summer long. Senator Hugh Farley secured a $7,500 grant for 2008-2009 for the library, which is being used for roof repairs, an upgrade to our emergency sprinkler system that will save us $300.00 every year, and to supplement our audio-book budgets for children, teens, and adults.. Thank you for all that you do for our library, Senator Farley! We would like to thank the following Businesses & Individuals that gave time, money, or services to the library in 2008: Advantage Service Group Aubuchon Hardware Bark Avenue for Pets Bh-BL BPA Capital District Fencing School Edward Jones Investment Gil s Garage The Grinell Family Home Team Inspection Nancy Bellamy Pizza Works Stewart s Shops The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Women s Club purchased this statue, nicknamed Anthony by Women s Club President Jane Coffey, for the Town of Ballston Community Library. Special Thanks to all of the Community Members who participated in the creation of the 2009-2012 Library Long Range Plan* *Available on our website!

The library community room was used more than 100 times this year by nonprofit organizations, including scouts, sports clubs, crafters, writers, and artists. Individuals representing community members, the BH- BLBPA, library staff, library and town board members, the Friends of the Library, and community partners worked together on the creation of the 2009-2012 Library Long Range Plan. Joan Weaver celebrated 30 years of working at the library! 537 children & teens participated in the 2008 NYS Summer Reading Program, Catch the Reading Bug @ Your Library. Breaking Dawn Library Lock-In: Rebecca, Stef & other intrepid staff members and volunteers spent the night with 45 fans of the Twilight series. Interlibrary loan services increased from 17,087 items in 2007 to 18,890 items in 2008, an 11% increase in one year. That s 76 books, magazines, DVDs, videos, and books on CD or cassette every single day, Monday through Friday! Author Marion Blumenthal-Lazan drew a crowd of over 100 people to her program about her book Four Perfect Pebbles. This program was made possible through the combined efforts of the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central Schools, the Town of Ballston Community Library, and a generous donation by Fred and Helen Baum.
