Vladimir Nabokov: A Descriptive Bibliography, Revised Edition Summary Nabokov s Dozen Spring in Fialta First Love and Other Stories/Nabokov s Best Short Stories A32 Nine of the stories in Nabokov s Dozen first appeared in book form in the 1947 collection Nine Stories. The new stories here are First Love, Signs and Symbols, Scenes from the Life of a Double Monster, and Lance. All editions of Nabokov s Dozen, beginning with the first Doubleday edition in 1958, included The Assistant Producer without the final two paragraphs. The wayward paragraphs were finally gathered in when the story appeared in the Knopf edition of The Stories of Vladimir Nabokov in 1995. The story was printed correctly in full in its very first appearance in The Atlantic Monthly in May 1943 and in the New Directions edition of Nine Stories in 1947. Boyd has a 21-Sep-1958 publication date (VNTAY 367).
