ABSTRACT This paper is entitled Figurative Language in the song lyric of Green Day s album entitled Warning. Song is one of the media used to express feeling, and it seems interesting to be analyzed because the word used are various. The combination of vocabulary is very unique. The languages used in a song usually has different meaning from ordinary language because the language used in the song is intendedfor specific purpose. A song was made to give amusement to listener. There are twelve songs in the Warning album, they arewarning, Blood sex and booze, Church on Sunday, Fashion victim, Castaway, Misery, Deadbeat Holiday, Hold on, Jackass, Waiting, Minority, Macy s Day Parade. This study is aimed to identify figurative language in the song lyrics of Green Day band and to find types of figurative language and their meaning. The data were taken directly from Green Day s song lyric entitled Warning as the data source. Documentary method was used to collect data. The technique used was note taking. The data presented descriptive qualitative.the theories applied by K. L. Knickerbocker and H. WilliardReninger (1963) and the second theory about meaning (semantics) by Leech (1979).The result of this study show that there are four kinds of figurative language: personification, hyperbole, simile, and irony.
