The Hunting of the Snark press release P.3 of 5 THE HUNTING OF THE SNARK is packed with memorable, upbeat songs, with music and lyrics composed by Gareth Cooper, who last month was named second funniest songwriter in the world, winning 2nd place at the International Songwriting Competition in the Comedy category. After the show s premiere in Edinburgh, critics praised the snappy songs that are eminently hummable and tunes to tap your toes to. At its heart, this is a touching father-and-son story about a journey of discovery and reconciliation. The Boy teaches his Banker father about life s true riches - love, family and friendship and the importance of protecting not hunting our beautiful creatures. As well as writing Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass, Lewis Carroll was famous for writing nonsense poetry, and his epic masterpiece THE HUNTING OF THE SNARK which took him two years to write - is often described as the finest Nonsense poem ever written. Although it was reprinted many times during Carroll s lifetime and has never been out of print since it was written 140 years ago, it is his undiscovered great classic, according to Director Gemma Colclough, who decided in 2013 to commission a theatrical adaptation of the poem with a hero storyline that children could relate to, with multiple touch points. Though it is a classic story, this production has many contemporary references, from rap to apps. The meaning of the poem is as elusive as the Snark and has been the subject of much controversy. Some people believe that the poem is a satire on capitalism and its quest for wealth, while others think it is an allegory of mankind s search for happiness. Whatever its meaning, the poem has captured the imaginations of many, with the original Snark Club founded at Cambridge University in 1934 for the glorification of the Snark and its creator Lewis Carroll. THE HUNTING OF THE SNARK is produced by RGM Productions and is presented in Hong Kong by Lunchbox Theatrical Productions. Snappy, silly and sunny show aimed at a family audience.
