NEWS FROM THE INTEREST GROUPS (CONT.) SINGING FOR PLEASURE Did any of you watch the TV programme 'TRUST ME I'M A DOCTOR' - Sat Sept 29 BBC 2? The doctors did an experiment. They gave a group of people 4 activities to measure the increase in ENDOCANNABINOIDS in the brain. The release of this chemical makes you feel happy. THE RESULTS: these activities gave increases as follows: Boring reading 6%... cycling 18%... dancing 20%... SINGING 40%. The doctors said that the release of endo/canna/ binoids in the brain improves mood, reduces anxiety, helps with stress. They said: "There are loads of reasons why increasing these chemicals in your brain has long term benefits" These findings are new... well they may be to the doctors.... We discovered it years ago. And you can get a dose of it each Tuesday in our Singing for Pleasure class, Hartley Hall, 3.30-4.45, Room 3, ground floor. 2.50. Mill Hill U3A News Flash No. 29, November 2018 Page no. 8

NEWS FROM THE INTEREST GROUPS (CONT.) THE ART GROUP Art Appreciation Group Tour to The Tate Britain: 14 th November 2018 for 'British Landscape Painting' accompanied by our very experienced guide Michael Wright. Wordsworth writes: "My Heart leaps up when I behold". There is a great tradition in British Landscape Art, apart from its concept of originality, it can also be described as being both idiosyncratic, and eccentric. We begin our tour today studying 'The Romantics A series of paintings by Turner and Constable, Michael will discuss how Wordsworth s poetry, and sentiments, were echoed in their landscapes. Our discussion continues with 'The Mystics paintings by Stanley Spencer, and Samuel Palmer, and finally 'The Eccentrics' paintings by Lowry and Blake. I expect this to be fascinating tour, where we will explore some of the wonderful aspects of British Landscape, depicted by some of our greatest artists This is just 'A Taster Tour on a very absorbing subject, and to be continue early next year.
