1.0 Introduction The 3M Coupling Tray FDTC-10S-COUPLINGTRAY can accommodate up to 10 loose tubes. The tray can be configured for use with either UPC or APC applications. Depending on the configuration ordered, this tray will contain either 12 or 48 coupling ports. Adapters and pigtails are included in this tray kit, however, installation will be based on customer order. 2.0 Kit Contents A. 3M Coupling Tray FDTC-10S-COUPLINGTRAY with lid B. Small cable ties (Quantity will vary depending on order) C. Adapters UPC or APC (quantity will vary depending on order, may or may not be installed) D. Pigtails UPC or APC (quantity will vary depending on order, may or may not be installed) E. 3M Scotchmate Re-closable Fastener F. Fusion splice insert (Insert will vary depending on order. See picture below for each insert available) G. Tray label H. 3M Fiber Transport Tubing 2520 (Approx. 12 in.) D B E A G A C F H D F B E G C H Note: Visually inspect all components. If any component is missing or appears damaged, do not install. Call 3M customer service at 1-800-426-8688 for a replacement product. 3.0 mm Fusion Splice Insert 2.4 mm Fusion Splice Insert Mass Fusion Splice Insert 3.0 Removing the Tray Cover 3.1 Remove the tray cover by pressing down on the front end of the cover and lifting up in the back. Slowly slide cover off as shown. For demonstration purposes, the 48-port coupling tray will be used. remove cover this direction 2
4.0 Adding and Removing Splice Trays 4.1 To add a tray, align the rectangular tab on the pivot vertically. Drop one side into the mating pivot hole in the lower tray. 4.2 Now push the upper tray toward the engaged pivot.. 4.3 Align and lower to engage the opposite pivot. 4.4 Remove splice tray by rotating the tray up and twisting the tray at the same time. 3
4.5 Unlock the tray by depressing the locking arm. This allows the tray to be free to pivot. 5.0 Installing Splice Inserts 5.1 Install splice inserts into tray by placing the edge of the insert under tabs in nest on the tray. Bow insert and install under tabs on opposite side. 6.0 Installing Adapters 6.1 If adapters were not installed previously, align and push adapter through the coupling port. Keep in mind when installing the adapters that the long thin u-shaped cutout is keyed to the raised tab on the SC connector. The adapter should be installed with the u-shaped cutout oriented per customer specification. 4
7.0 Buffer Tube Preparation 7.1 Remove and clean buffer tube as needed. Cut ½ (12 mm) of 3M Scotchmate Re-closable Fastener and wrap around the end of each buffer tube. 7.2 Install into tray and secure with two cable ties. 8.0 Ribbon Fiber Preparation 8.1 Cut a one-inch (25 mm) long section of the fiber tube supplied with the splice tray kit and use to secure the buffer tubes or ribbon fiber (up to six ribbons) to the tray. Route and secure ribbon cable as needed. 5
8.2 Attach splice log decal to cover. Note that bottom portion of decal can be cut off and used to identify individual trays. 9.0 Installing Pigtails 9.1 Plug the pigtails that are to be spliced into the back of the coupling panel making sure that the raised tab on the connector slides into the u-shaped cutout on the adapter. 9.2 Route the pigtails under the cable management tabs and around into the splice tray attached to the coupling plate as shown. Cable ties may be installed before routing the pigtails. 6
9.3 Group the pigtails with a maximum of 12 per group and place in a small piece of the 3M Fiber Transport Tubing 2520 provided in your kit. Secure the fiber tube to the tray with two small cable ties also provided in your kit as shown. 10.0 Tray Cover with Coupling Plate 10.1 To replace the cover, lay the cover on top of the splice tray. Align the three cutouts on the cover with the three tabs along one side of the tray. Align tabs 10.2 Slide the cover under the three tabs until the tabs and slots on the opposite side are aligned. Align tabs 10.3 Continue sliding the cover forward under the tabs until all six tabs are engaged. Slide forward 10.4 Make sure that the cover slides under the two tabs positioned at the front of the tray. 7
10.5 The tray assembly is now ready for External Cable Assembly Module (ECAM) factory drops. Drops brought into the closure terminal can be routed utilizing the cable management tabs along the side of the tray and plugged into the front of the coupling plate. 3M and Scotchmate are trademarks of 3M Company.
