Checking the pwer n yur interactive pen display The Pwer buttn lights up t indicate whether pwer is reaching the interactive pen display. If the pwer buttn indicatr is... slid green flashing green slid amber ff The interactive pen display is... turned n and perating nrmally warming up idle nt receiving pwer Pwer buttn indicatr issues If yu encunter issues with the Pwer buttn indicatr, refer t the fllwing table. The Pwer buttn indicatr is green but yu re unable t see an image n the display. See Image issues n page 48. 44

The Pwer buttn indicatr turns amber after being green fr a time with n vide utput. Make sure the length f the vide cable desn t exceed 50' (15 m). Turn ff yur cmputer and make sure: the vide cable is crrectly cnnected t the interactive pen display and the cmputer;. the vide cable isn t bent r brken and desn t have bent r brken pins in either cnnectr; and If yu re using a vide cable adapter, check thse cnnectins as well. the vide card in yur cmputer is installed crrectly, and is perating prperly. If the prblem persists, see Image Prblems n page 42. The Pwer buttn indicatr is ff. Make sure the pwer cable is cnnected prperly. If the Pwer buttn indicatr still desn t turn n, cntact SMART Technical Supprt. 45

Status indicatr issues If yu encunter issues with the Status indicatr, refer t the fllwing table. The Status indicatr is flashing green. Make sure SMART Prduct Drivers are installed n yur cmputer (see Installing SMART sftware n page 21. Make sure SMART Bard service is running n yur cmputer. a. Open the SMART cntrl panel, and then select Abut Sftware and Prduct Supprt > Tls > Diagnstics. b. If the Status field cntains a "SMART Bard service is nt running" message, click the Service menu, and then select Start. The Status indicatr is red. Make sure the USB cable is prperly cnnected t an active prt n the cmputer and t the interactive pen display. Make sure the cmputer s USB interface isn t disabled. The Status indicatr is ff. Make sure the pwer cable is cnnected prperly. If the Status indicatr still desn t turn n, cntact SMART Technical Supprt. Tethered pen issues If yu encunter issues with the tethered pen, refer t the fllwing table. s Yu re unable t use the pen t select, write, erase r mve the muse. When yu write r draw with the pen, yu see a pinter instead f digital ink. Check the Status indicatr. If it's red, see Status indicatr issues abve fr trubleshting infrmatin. Make sure the tethered pen is prperly cnnected t yur interactive pen display. Check the Status indicatr. If it's flashing green, see Status indicatr issues abve fr trubleshting infrmatin. Make sure yu have selected an ink clr frm the illuminiated buttns at the tp f yur interactive pen display. Make sure the SMART Bard Diagnstics windw isn't pen. If the tethered pen still desn t wrk, cntact SMART Technical Supprt. 47

s Yu re unable t dubleclick. Check the Status indicatr. If it's red, see Status indicatr issues n the previus page fr trubleshting infrmatin. Adjust the Duble-click Zne setting. a. Open the SMART Cntrl panel, and then select SMART Hardware Settings > Muse and Gesture Settings. b. Adjust the Duble-click Zne setting, and then select Okay. Image issues If yu encunter issues with the image n yur interactive pen display, refer t the fllwing tables. Fr additinal infrmatin abut clr issues, see the dcumentatin that came with yur perating system r applicatins. s The display shws n image and the Pwer buttn indicatr is ff. s The display shws the NO SIGNAL message. Make sure yur cmputer is turned n. Make sure yur cmputer isn t in Pwer Management mde. T bring it ut f Pwer Management mde, press any key n yur keybard, r tuch the tethered pen t yur interactive pen display. Make sure the Analg/Digital switch n the side f yur interactive pen display is set crrectly (see Cnnectin panel n page 9 fr mre infrmatin). Switch t Analg if yu re using a VGA cnnectin r t Digital if yu re using a DVI cnnectin. Restart yur cmputer after changing the psitin f the switch. The display shw the OUT OF SCAN RANGE message. Turn yur cmputer and the interactive pen display ff, and then make sure: the vide cable s cnnectr pins aren t bent r brken. the vide card in yur cmputer is installed crrectly, and is perating prperly. Make sure the input vide signal frequency setting is 60 Hz which is cmpatible with the interactive pen display. Make sure the vide card s reslutin is 1366 768 r lwer if yu re using a SMART Pdium 518 interactive pen display. Make sure the vide card s reslutin is 1920 1080 r lwer if yu re using a SMART Pdium 524 interactive pen display. Make sure the refresh rate (hrizntal frequency) is 30 t 80 Hz. T T I P On a single mnitr system, cnnect a secnd mnitr t change the refresh rate. The screen flashes multiple times. Make sure the refresh rate (vertical frequency) is 56 t 76 Hz. Set the display prperties t detect plug and play mnitrs. Make sure the refresh rate (vertical frequency) is 56 t 76 Hz. If yu re using an input selectr switch bx check yur hardware cnnectins. 49

s Clr quality is inaccurate Use the OSD ptins t return the current display parameters t the factry default settings. Use a screen saver r ther pwer management feature. VGA display issues If yu encunter image issues with yur interactive pen display with a VGA cnnectin, refer t the fllwing table. The display ripples r flickers. Use the OSD ptins t return the display parameters t the factry default settings. Use OSD ptins t adjust the phase and pitch (VGA nly). Make sure the display adapter r vide card matches the specificatins fr the interactive pen display. Adjust the refresh rate in the Display Prperties cntrl panel. See Adjusting vide settings with the n-screen display (OSD) menu n page 55 The display ripples r shws a wavy pattern. OR The display clr isn t even. Sme vide cards might nt shw the size f the display crrectly. Select Aut Adjust in the OSD ptins t autmatically ptimize the display screen image (VGA nly). If necessary, use the OSD ptins t adjust the phase and pitch (VGA nly). Use the OSD ptins t return the display parameters t the factry default settings. See Adjusting vide settings with the n-screen display (OSD) menu n page 55 50

Make sure the vide card s reslutin is 1366 768 if yu re using a SMART Pdium 518 interactive pen display. Select Aut Adjust in the OSD ptins t autmatically ptimize the display screen image (VGA nly). If necessary, use the OSD ptins t adjust the phase and pitch (VGA nly). Turn ff the interactive pen display, and then turn it n. Select 1:1 in the Scaling OSD ptin t display the image at the actual reslutin. Select Aut Adjust in the OSD ptins t autmatically ptimize the display screen image (VGA nly). If necessary, use the Other OSD ptin t adjust the phase and pitch, and the vertical and hrizntal psitins (VGA nly). See Adjusting vide settings with the n-screen display (OSD) menu n page 55 Cntrl and writing issues If yu encunter issues with writing and drawing n yur interactive pen display, refer t the fllwing table. The pinter desn t accurately fllw the mvement f the pen. Yu re unable t write in digital ink. Orient the interactive pen display (see Orienting yur interactive pen display n page 16). Make sure SMART Prduct Drivers is installed. Make sure SMART Bard tls is running. I I M P OR T A N T Yu can write ntes ver applicatins and yur desktp nly if SMART Prduct Drivers are running n yur cmputer. If yu see the r icn in the Windws ntificatin area r Mac Dck, SMART Prduct Drivers is nt running n yur cmputer r yur prduct is nt prperly cnnected. 51

Digital ink desn t appear as yu expect. Check the custmized pen settings in SMART Ntebk sftware r SMART Meeting Pr sftware. Fr mre infrmatin n setting digital ink prperties, fr example, clr, line thickness, line style and transparency, refer t yur SMART sftware s nline Help. Mac-specific issues If yu encunter issues with yur Mac perating system sftware, refer t the fllwing table. At startup, a message states that SMART Prduct Drivers failed t lad r the interactive pen display preferences aren t created. Handwriting Recgnitin desn t wrk crrectly. Make sure the Pwer buttn indicatr is n and the USB cable is securely cnnected t an active USB receptacle n yur cmputer r t a USB hub. Cnnect the interactive pen display t a different USB prt. Select Finder > Utilities > System Prfiles > Cntent > Hardware > USB, and then make sure yur USB pen display mdel is listed. Select Finder > Utilities. Start the Disk Utility prgram, and then run Repair Disk Permissins frm the First Aid tab. If this desn t reslve the prblem, cntact SMART Technical Supprt. Ink preference files may be damaged. Remve the damaged Ink preference files (see Remving ink preference files n Mac cmputers n the next page). 52

Remving ink preference files n Mac cmputers Yu can remve damaged ink preference files frm yur Mac cmputer t reslve sme issues with handwriting recgnitin and digital ink. g T remve ink preference files frm yur Mac cmputer 1. Start yur cmputer in Administratin mde. 2. Select Apple menu > System Preferences > Ink, and then select t disable handwriting recgnitin. 3. Select Finder > Hme > Library > Preferences, and then remve the fllwing files: cm.apple.ink.framewrk.plist cm.apple.ink.inkpad.plist cm.apple.ink.inkpad.sketch The files are autmatically recreated when yu enable handwriting recgnitin in the next step. 4. Select Apple menu > System Preferences > Ink, and then enable handwriting recgnitin. Cntact Apple Supprt if the handwriting recgnitin and digital ink issues persist. 53
