WELCOME Yeats Library is here to guide and support you through your research experience whether you are studying at undergraduate or postgraduate level, on campus or via online learning. We are here to help. YOUR STUDENT ID CARD Your IT Sligo Student ID Card is also your library card. You will need it for borrowing books and to use self-service facilities in the Library. GETTING STARTED Online Learning students who are not attending class on campus can upload a photo to the system before getting their ID Card. Details on how to do this are available at library.itsligo.ie or email library@itsligo.ie. ACCESSING ONLINE LIBRARY RESOURCES Resources on the library website are available 24/7. Yeats Library is an innovative and exciting facility offering a variety of learning spaces with a wide range of resources and guides to help you during your study. STUDY ROOMS There are 13 study rooms available for group and presentation work within the Library, several with multimedia screens. These rooms can be booked using the Student Room Booking system on the Library website. RESPECT YOUR STUDY SPACE The Library can be a busy place as it is used by both students and staff of the Institute. Please respect other library users and the facilities provided. SEARCHING FOR INFORMATION FOR YOUR ASSIGNMENTS The following services are available at library.itsligo.ie to help you find relevant information for your assignments: EOLAS: search print and online library resources including full text ebooks and articles DATABASES: search for a particular database or choose one from the list JOURNALS A-Z: search for a specific journal title or browse by discipline for full text publications RESEARCH@THEA search the entire collections of research output from all of the Institutes of Technology via this open access repository LOCATING BOOKS IN THE LIBRARY Books are shelved in numerical order according to the Dewey Decimal Classification System. This system allocates a number between 000-999 (known as the call number) to each subject area. Art books, for example, are shelved together in the 700s while Science books are shelved in the 500s section. Each individual book will have a call number displayed on its spine and will be shelved in numerical order. BORROWING BOOKS & ARTICLE REQUESTS Online Learners can request books to be posted to them from the Library Main Lending Collection by emailing library@itsligo.ie. INTERLENDING & DOCUMENT SUPPLY If we do not have a book you require in stock then it may be requested for you from another library using the Interlending & Document Supply service. USING OTHER ACADEMIC LIBRARIES When visiting other academic libraries you must bring your IT Sligo student card with you. Check in advance the procedures in place for external users of the library you wish to visit and the opening times. You can request a Letter of Introduction from Yeats Library which will allow you to use other academic libraries for reference purposes. BORROWING FROM OTHER IT LIBRARIES A reciprocal borrowing agreement is in place between IT Sligo and the Institutes listed below allowing students from IT Sligo to borrow two items for one week from: FINDING INFORMATION Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT) Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT) WIFI ACCESS USING EDUROAM The Eduroam service provides internet access for all students and staff of Higher Education Institutions not only in their registered Institute but also when visiting other academic institutions. This means that you can use the WiFi facilities of another educational institution near you. Once you authenticate your IT Sligo Login details with the visiting network it will verify you as a registered student of IT Sligo and allow access. GUIDES TO RESEARCH & LEARNING Informative guides on academic writing, referencing, research and study skills are available in the Research & Learning section of the library website. Also included are guides to the following important referencing tools: CITE THEM RIGHT: step by step guide to referencing any source with tips and advice on avoiding plagiarism ENDNOTE WEB: online referencing tool for managing citations, references and creating bibliographies HARVARD REFERENCING GUIDE: help and examples on how to reference sources using the Harvard Referencing Style ASSIGNMENT SUPPORT Arrange a class tutorial or personal assignment support appointment with a School Liaison Librarian.
