UTTERLY DISGUSTING PROJECT 1 COVER SHEET - page 1 AN UTTERLY DISGUSTING CREATIVE PROJECT designed by Zachàr Laskewicz (for my special little niece Jasmine Laskewicz!)

UTTERLY DISGUSTING PROJECT 1 BASIC INTRODUCTION page 2 AN UTTERLY DISGUSTING CREATIVE PROJECT designed by Zachàr Laskewicz (for the enjoyment of my special little niece Jasmine Laskewicz!) This project will contain a number of instruction sheets to read carefully, cut out or print onto labels. You are going on a creative journey where you ll complete a number of tasks like cutting out pictures and sticking labels onto items you have to find. Some of the things you re going to do to complete the project are easy; but some are more difficult. They all result in producing really disgusting things to upset your friends and family! Instruction sheets that follow will show clearly each stage, and there will also be corresponding films online that show you how to do everything step-by-step. Some of the things required, however, are dangerous so you ll probably have to get someone to help you. I hope you have a lot of fun doing it! I ve certainly enjoyed making it possible.

UTTERLY DISGUSTING PROJECT 1 USED EWE S EYES Intro Sheet page 3 This project is called USED EWE S EYES. The title may sound stupid now, but as you complete the project it will make more sense. The first step involves you printing the labels onto a sheet of sticky paper, cutting them out and then sticking them to a glass jar (that you will have to find somewhere in your house or buy). After this it starts to get more complicated. After preparing the jar, you are going to make what the labels on it are describing. I won t spoil the surprise now, but in short you ll be making sheep s eyes out of peeled fruit treated in a special way so that it will look horrible and stay that way. To get everything done right, you ll be reading instructions and watching films; you ll be sent off on tasks to find items and to put them together. They re really silly, and the things you ll be doing may seem disgusting. But they re lots of fun to do and as you are doing it you ll be solving a puzzle. I give you clues as to how you can find the answer to the puzzle by examining what you are doing. The first set of clues are in the crazy texts on the labels which we ll take a look at later after you ve finished the jar. Solving these puzzles, unfortunately, doesn t just give you one answer. You ll discover that something have a different answer depending on who is trying to solve it. What is very important, however, is what YOU think; and I m going to try to help you solve the puzzles in different ways so that it makes more sense and is more fun. But don t worry about that now. The most important thing is starting to create following the clear guidelines I set out, and the rest will follow naturally.

UTTERLY DISGUSTING PROJECT 1 PARENT/TEACHER Intro Sheet page 4 THE PROJECT BEHIND THE UTTER HORROR [or why you shouldn t panic and instead embrace disgusting things] The idea of this project and other UTTERLY DISGUSTING artistic creative projects I d like to start is to guide young people not only in being creative but in looking at what their creativity means to others. This may sound like I m aiming for the stars in a leaking canoe, but in actual fact, realising this goal is simpler, I believe, than many people think. The intention is neither intellectual nor educational; the idea is simply to get those doing the projects thinking and developing a sense of what creativity means in society. The ultimate goal, then, is to provide a basis for understanding the function of art. This may sound serious, but the contradiction between the formal seriousness of a greater function and the absurdity of a set of fun activities is entirely intentional. The disgusting things that are created are both vile objects and interesting pieces of art; they are at one and the same time funny as they are serious and what I love about young people is their ability to be able to accept that two totally opposing ideas can be meaningful at the same time. Seriously working to produce something crazy, or accepting that something has a deep mystical meaning as well as being utterly stupid (and/or disgusting) is the first step to understanding the array of possible meanings artistic objects can have. I hope this short introduction has given you an insight into what I m actually trying to do in addition to simply entertain. I would also be happy to answer any questions you may have (via my email address zachar@nachtschimmen.eu).

UTTERLY DISGUSTING PROJECT 1 JAR LABEL SHEET page 5 * FRONT This sheet contains 4 labels for a foursided glass bottle or jar. It is to be printed onto an A4 size label sheet so that each of the labels can be cut to the correct size. REAR LEFT RIGHT
