Pleasant Valley Middle School Summer 2018 Literacy Expectations "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn the more places you'll go." Dr. Seuss

Welcome 7 th graders! While reading the novel, Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, please complete the attached graphic organizer. Mr. Paulsen did not include chapter titles for his book. It is YOUR job to think of an original title after reading each of the 19 chapters. Focus on what each chapter is about in general and formulate a title from that information. For example, if the chapter is about how the main character becomes friends with a wild dog, you might call it Forever Friends, or A Stroke of Luck, something that conveys, or describes, what takes place. In addition, complete the sentences on the right hand side. The first one has been done for you. You are to write down a character trait, or adjective, that highlights the characters behavior or personality. A list to help you has been included in this packet. Please strive to use each adjective only once. This will require you to really focus in on the best word to use for each example. Good luck and see you soon!
