Thank you for your support of the SMPTE 2012 Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition. We are excited to have you on board! SMPTE 2012 is THE premier annual event for motion- imaging professionals in the media, entertainment, communications, and technology industries. SMPTE 2012 will bring together world- renowned academic, engineering, executive, and standards thought leaders across the broadcast, cinema, and IT industries. Based on prior conferences, attendees are expected to range from engineers and technical professionals to high- level business leaders from motion picture studios, broadcast and cable networks, production and post- production firms, software companies, systems integrators, equipment manufacturers, and distribution providers. SMPTE 2012 will feature numerous technical sessions from A/V- specific improvements in IP- based workflows and smart cloud migration strategies to critical advances in digital cinema, post- production, online captioning, and surround- sound audio. These presentations will highlight the key scientific, technology, and standards efforts poised to fundamentally advance the state of today s digital media ecosystem. They also underscore SMPTE s unrivaled ability to connect the dots between research, standards, and business success. This year s conference will also feature an Opening Keynote address by Mr. Anthony Wood, CEO of Roku, the leading streaming platform for delivering video, music, and casual games to the TV; a technology- focused exhibit hall featuring a popular welcome reception and great networking opportunities; a high- profile Industry Keynote Luncheon; the prestigious SMPTE Honors & Awards Ceremony and Dinner; and plenty of other invaluable opportunities to meet with fellow attendees. And this year, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences will be holding its annual Technology Emmy ceremony in conjunction with SMPTE 2012. To kick off the week of SMPTE 2012, we will hold a special symposium on High Frame Rates for Digital Cinema. This one- day session will fully explore the impact that high frame rates have on the entire movie system, from capture through post- production, distribution, and exhibition. The symposium is designed for creative professionals as well as technical and production staff members who are involved in creating images or working with systems that handle them. More than just panels and presentations, this event will provide concrete examples that attendees will be able to apply immediately to their own work situations. We encourage you to use the tips in this guide to create visibility for your organization and brand at SMPTE 2012. Feel free to share it with the Marketing, Communications, and/or Media Relations department within your organization.
