2020 Oberammergau / Passion Play Frequently Asked Questions What is the Oberammergau Passion Play? The Oberammergau Passion Play is a series of plays that takes place once every 10 years to commemorate the final stage of Jesus life. As the village of Oberammergau, Germany suffered through the Black Plaque in 1634, they vowed to perform the Passion of Christ once per decade going forward, if only their town would be spared, which it was. 2020 marks the 42 nd production of the Passion Play. The play is 5 hours long and is conducted in German, with guests given English language guide books to follow along. After the first half of the play there will be a 3-hour dinner intermission coordinated by the Oberammergau organization. Will Crystal River Cruises be offering special Oberammergau Passion Play packages? Yes, we will be offering 14 Passion Play packages between May and October of 2020. What will the Oberammergau / Passion Play Package include? A Pre-Sale will be offered to Crystal Society members first, from July 10 through July 19. The general public will be allowed to join the priority waitlist beginning July 23. The pre-sale deposit is $1,000 per person for Crystal Society and the general public. Between August 1 and August 7, we will send confirmations to waitlisted guests who have been cleared. At that time, pricing will be provided and guests will have 7 days to provide a non-refundable deposit of 50% of the package fare. If a guest chooses not to go forward with the package, their $1,000 pre-sale deposit will be refunded. Non-refundable final payment will be due at 180 days prior to departure. How will Groups be handled? At this point, we are not accepting groups on this program. Group inquiries for Oberammergau should be directed to WLittlejohn@CrystalCruises.com What is the price of the Oberammergau package? For waitlisted guests who have been cleared on their confirmation, complete pricing for the program will be provided between August 1 and August 11. What if I do not receive an immediate confirmation? If you are not included in the round of initial confirmations, we will continue to keep you on the waitlist unless you desire otherwise. What is the supplement for single travelers? The single supplement for the Oberammergau packages is 200%.
Are children allowed to book this program? This program is restricted to guests who are 18 years of age and older. Will guests be allowed to book third berth suites and hotel rooms? No, this program is restricted to double and single occupancy only. What are the hotels in the program like? The hotel in Munich, the Charles Hotel, has been specially selected by Crystal and is considered a fivestar property. In Oberammergau, all of the hotel accommodations are selected and controlled by the Oberammergau program. Crystal has paid for five-star accommodations at either Alpenhof Murnau or the Parkhotel am Soier See. Final hotel assignment will be done by the Oberammergau organization; selection is not under the control of Crystal Cruises. Please note: Crystal is unable to guarantee that guests cruising in different suites together in different rooms will be assigned to the same hotel in Oberammergau. What about the accommodations on the ship? The Oberammergau package has room options in deluxe suite categories S2 and S1, as well as Crystal Penthouse (category CP) and Crystal Suite (category CS). The Oberammergau package is not available in categories S5, S4 or S3. How will I get from the hotel to the Passion Play theater located in Oberammergau, Germany? Transportation, arranged by the Oberammergau organization, will be provided between the hotels and the play venue. Can I choose specific seats for the play? No, this packaging guarantees show admission; the Oberammergau organization determines where seats will be located. Is there special seating or consideration for guests who have mobility challenges? Crystal River Cruises is dedicated to providing a comfortable experience for all our guests. We make every effort to accommodate the needs of those with disabilities. However, the sheer nature of river cruising precludes Crystal from being able to completely do so for guests with mobility challenges. There are no facilities for disabled guests; no handicapped/wheelchair accessible rooms, no elevators on the ship that can accommodate wheelchairs, and no access or assistance provided to disabled guests on embarkation or disembarkation. For many reasons, embarkation and disembarkation present difficulties for guests with reduced mobility. Gangways are quite narrow, generally don t provide flat surfaces, and are often positioned at extreme angles. Moreover, to gain access to
landside, there is frequently a need for guests to cross over other river ships, which requires climbing up a set of stairs to the top deck and walking over myriad obstructions. Further, pnce landside, guests will frequently have to walk on cobblestone or dirt streets and sidewalks and will need to climb stairs to gain access to sightseeing venues. For these reasons, and more, we do not recommend river cruising for those who need or require walkers, wheelchairs, scooters or canes. What are the payment and cancellation terms? After you have been confirmed, a non-refundable deposit equal to 50% of the package fare is due by the option period. If you were part of the priority waitlist pre-sale, you may count your initial $1,000 deposit towards your full deposit requirement. The remaining 50% - the final payment will be due no later than 180 days prior to sailing. Will name changes be allowed? Only one name change, per reservation during the life of the reservation, will be allowed. Name changes must be done at least 180 days prior to departure. How long is the transfer time? Munich Airport to Munich hotel 30 minutes Munich hotel to Oberammergau, Germany 75 minutes Oberammergau to Crystal Ravel in Regensburg 2.5 hours inutes Oberammergau to Crystal Debussy in Basel 4.5 hours After I ve been confirmed for the Oberammergau event, can I switch to a cruise-only booking and drop the Oberammergau package? Cancellation of the Oberammergau program will result in penalties on the full package, including the cruise fare. Can I share a room with someone who isn t taking the Oberammergau package? No, all guests on the same reservation must take the Oberammergau package. What type of clothing is appropriate for the land portion of this package? As this excursion involves walking over uneven and cobbled surfaces, it is not recommended for guests with walking difficulties. It is recommended that guests dress in layered clothing and wear flat, comfortable shoes. Guests should also bring raingear in case of inclement weather. This excursion will operate in all weather conditions.
