World-Class Value The DMB 670 VHF solid-state transmitter is designed to provide today s multimedia broadcaster with one transmitter platform capable of multiple modulation schemes. Incorporating field-proven DAB 665 multi-standard exciter, the DMB 670 provides world-class performance, reliability and quality. The DMB 670 was designed to leverage the DAB 665 exciter s market leadership position and complement it with a new line of amplifiers based on the successful Platinum Z line of FM transmitters. The DAB 665 low-power unit contains complete DAB/DMB signal processing according to the EUREKA Project 147 specifications from the ETI input to the RF output. The low-power unit contains the integrated transmitter control and monitoring system and communicates to the power amplifier bays in the system via RS-485. The amplifier bays hold a range of RF modules for pre-filter powers from 40 W to 10 kw using straightforward, reliable construction for simple operation and maintenance. Global Monitor and Control The DMB 670 transmitter series uses a central control system housed in the DAB 665 low-power stage (exciter/drive unit). The main controller communicates with the modules of the low-power stage through an internal I2C-bus and to one or more external high-power amplifier bays (PA modules) via an RS-485 connection. A liquid crystal control screen allows easy review of all operational parameters and easy diagnosis of any equipment problems. In addition to local control, options allow the DMB 670 transmitter to be controlled from anywhere in the world via RS- 232 or TCP/IP via a telecom or network connection with password protection. Menu structure The control menu of the DAB 670 transmitter series user interface contains the following functional blocks: Home: New addition that features key transmitter readings, FWD and REV power and system faults Signal: Enables adjustment of all parameters for signal processing (input feed, preprocessing ETI and FFT unit, precorrection, reference frequency) History: Maintains a list of errors and operation mode changes and allows storage of history data Preference: Stores the present equipment configuration files or downloads a predefined equipment configuration Amplifier: Adjustment of the operating mode, querying operating parameters of the highpower amplifier bays Installation: Configuration of installation settings like power class, backup signal selection Miscellaneous: Includes measuring units, CPU data, power supply parameters, operating temperatures Log File: Contains the network log-in/log-out log Help: Help with navigation and problem solving Remote Communication The following additional remote interfaces are optionally available: The graphical user interface (GUI) permits entry of all operation parameters. Simple reports and important measured values can be queried and transmitter operation problems are clearly displayed. Ethernet network connection RJ45 (10/100BaseT) with TCP/IP protocol RS232 for modem/pc connection with TCP/IP protocol (low-power stage front panel and rear panel) Remote alarms are generated automatically in the event of a fault and sent via GSM (SMS format) or modem (ASCII format). If a network connection is present, the alarms can be sent by SNMP or e-mail. Contacts of the parallel interface can be arbitrarily assigned for special needs RS232 as mod-bus (ASCII protocol), or bit-bus-iec864-2 are available on request To support greater redundancy, the TCM 8600 Terrestrial Central Monitoring unit supports a range of back-up options. In dual-drive systems, the TCM 8600 monitors the low-power unit and switches control and RF feeds. DMB 670 Front View Power Supplies Auto-ranging, hot-pluggable power supplies feature automatic regulation to smooth mains fluctuation. Redundant supplies keep transmitter on air in case of a supply failure. Transmitter Interface The transmitter interface provides amplifier bay local protection, control & monitoring interconnect to the low-power unit via RS- 485 on the back panel. DMB 670 Rear View RF Power Module Each hot-pluggable module holds two linear power amplifier pallets, each producing 175 watts of COFDM. Hinged Front Panel Hinged front panel folds down to provide access to all RF and power supply modules. Integrated, removable air filter uses washable material for simple servicing. Dual Power Connections Each DMB 670 offers multiple CE compliant power inputs to allow distributed feeds for maximum redundancy and installation flexibility. RF Connections Each DMB 670 transmitter has a main RF output, an RF input from the low-power unit, and a sample for test use. QPSK Receiver The optional QPSK-receiver provides a highquality DVB-S satellite receiver that outputs a standard ETI-signal. Complies with EN300.421, EN301192 and supports ETI- Signal (G703) via PID-filtering/FIFO and HDB3-coding. System CPU The CPU contains the central transmitter control and the optional Web interface. The system communication is based on an I2C-bus and RS 485. Low Power Unit Front Panel Control Control and monitoring of the transmitter is accomplished via the key pad and LCD display on the low power unit. Simple menus allow for access to operational and setup adjustments. The home page is the default display. Low-Power Amplifier Linear 200 mw or 40 W output for direct operation or as the driver. COFDM-modulator Provides direct modulation (no IF), features noiseless and electronically tunable synthesizer and controls the RF output for a constant level. Digital I/Q Precorrection Adapts the digital signal to counter the nonlinear characteristic of the PA the sideband signals are optimized with digital FIR filtering dynamic precorrection adjusts for changes in the output power. Frequency Processing Provides internal reference frequencies 1 Hz and 10 MHz plus 1 PPS input from external GPS receiver or the optional internal GPS receiver. COFDM Encoder Processes the ETI-signal to ETS specifications for modes 1-4 and supports standard ETI-NA (NI) with seamless switch-over & quality check - 12-Bit I/Q-resolution - Time Stamp Processing - Dynamic group delay - Integrated CRC check with adjustable alarm thresholds - Mode selection for Local/Automatic/Test - Automatic NI/NA input signal detection.

DMB 670 Configuration Each DMB 670 transmitter combines a low-power unit and one or more amplifier bays, each with various configurations of PA modules to achieve the rated power. The amplifier bays contain several major systems: Power Amplifier (PA) The hot-pluggable module features a pair of broadband (168-242 MHz) RF power amplifiers that require no user adjustments. Each amplifier can be easily replaced with a pre-tuned pallet, eliminating the need for optimization in the field. The PA modules are identical and fully interchangeable among all power classes in the DMB 670 transmitter family, regardless of configuration. Power Supply (PS) The hot-pluggable module is a 1200 W, 48 V power supply with a.98 power factor and mains input range of 90-264 V. The PS interface provides on/off functionality to the power supplies, a fan tachometer alarm and redundant feed to the cooling system. Each module also has +5 V output to redundantly drive the low-voltage control circuits. Cooling System The air-cooling system includes internal redundant blowers that pull cool air from the front through a removable filter, as well as exhausts in the rear. Systems integrated in Harris cabinets feature top exhaust to support ducting and can optionally have ducted air input plenum to permit top, bottom or rear air input. Typical system block diagram Control System The main system control is located in the low-power unit and DMB 670-2000 shown communicates with each amplifier bay, each of which has independent protection and control capabilities. Each PA module has dedicated control and monitoring to support on/off functionality and alarms for reflected power, temperature and current overloads. Output Filter Optionally used to ensure mask compliance. These filters are compact, temperature-stable and provide low insertion loss. The noncritical spectrum mask filter has a six-circuit bandpass, while the critical mask filter requires the addition of two traps.
