It s Beginning To Look Like Christmas! Christmas time in small towns like ours here in Marseilles always brings a comfortable, festive feeling to the air. Decorations hang on the power poles, and local businesses and residents put themselves into the mood by decorating their buildings and houses which lends a special meaning to the season. Don t forget that Marseilles will be hosting the Annual Santa Parade on Saturday, December 14, 2013. Line up for the Parade is at Marseilles School Parking lot at Noon. Parade starts at 12:30 p.m. It s always a fun tradition in our town. Since introducing Connected Magazine in May 2011 to the Marseilles area, we have focused our cover page and calendar pictures to embrace some place, thing or person in our community. It has been such a fun challenge for us to find a memorable local picture to share with all of you in the monthly community magazine we produce. The purpose of this magazine is to show off our community to be a resource for events that are happening during the month, along with informing the community of the great services offered by our local communications company. We hope that you have enjoyed this magazine over the past two and a half years it has been published. This past year has been one for the record books for MTCO and the city of Marseilles. In 2014, we look forward to continuing the magazine and being involved in the community we live and play in. For all of the kids this holiday season, we have connected a direct email line to the North Pole. Send your Christmas List for Santa Claus to santa@mtco.com. Entertainment & Technology Christmas Music Performances To Air On digimax Local Channel It s beginning to look like Christmas... yes, it s that time of the year again. MTCO is proud to announce that we will be broadcasting the Christmas programs from Metamora High School, Germantown Hills Grade School and other performances for your enjoyment. The broadcast of these bands and chorus will contain performances from last year along with new ones to be recorded in December. Stay tuned to our digimax local channel 400/410HD guide for the times of these performances. Set your DVR s to record them and play them back whenever you want through the holiday season. Check out a new GPS device that can help you track them down! It s a small locator tile that sticks or clips on to anything you would like to keep track of. You can find your lost things by using the app on your smartphone or tablet. Register each tile to an account that will show you a map of where your tiles have traveled. You can add up to ten tiles and share locations to help others track things down. If your tile ever comes up missing or is out of range you can send an alert to your account and if your tile comes into contact with any other tiles anywhere it will send an update to your account. Encore Channel Updates The Encore premium movie pack is revamping a few of its channels on December 2, 2013. Encore Classic will replace Encore Love and will feature iconic movie titles as well as classic TV series targeted to the baby-boomer audience. Encore Drama will be replaced by Encore Black, which will target African-American movies and TV series. Encore Suspense is adding The Graveyard Shift, a nightly horror block starting at 8:00 p.m. and playing seven days a week. Keep up with Entertainment and Technology news. In Our Community Holiday Magic In Marseilles Holiday Magic in Marseilles will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2013. The Magic kicks off with the 3rd Santa Fun Run and Walk. This is a 3K Fun Walk, and registration is at 11:00 a.m. at Knudson Park on Lincoln Street. Adult registration is $5.00, and includes a Santa Hat. Students are FREE. At 11:30a.m., Walkers/ Runners will leave the park. Course starts at Knudson Park, and goes east on sidewalks, and the course will be marked with arrows. No timers are used, it s just a fun brisk walk. They will have awards for Costumes, 1st Walker, Best Individual, Best Group, Best Dressed Pet, and Best Youth. Sounds of the Season Hotline For Santa Claus Hotline for Santa will be available for your child, big or little, to talk to Santa on the telephone. You will be able to talk to Santa from Dec. 15th to Dec. 22nd from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Call Santa at 815-795-4021. Join M.A.R.S Community Group for Christmas Caroling at Rivershores Nursing Home at 6:30 p.m., Friday December 20, 2013. Join us to celebrate the Christmas sprit! Santa House Opens December 15 The Santa House will be located next to the Chamber Caboose at 135 Washington Street starting Sunday, December 15, 2013 through December 23, 2013. Visit Santa from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. during these days. Bring your camera! Santa Parade The Marseilles Annual Santa Parade will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2013. Line up for the Parade is at Marseilles School Parking lot at Noon. Parade starts at 12:30 p.m. The parade route is west on Broadway to Aurora, crossing the railroad tracks to Washington Street. Then it goes west on Washington Street to Main Street, and south on Main Street to Labor Hall. Approximately at 1:00 p.m. Santa arrives at Labor Hall to greet everyone with Mrs. Claus by his side. There will be food served at The Labor Hall along with crafters offering Christmas shopping pleasure. From 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. the Natural Friendly Ornaments for trees at Knudson Park will be made, and you can decorate your own cookie. If interested in having a vehicle or float in the Parade call Kathy at 815-795-2414. digimax TV Remote Control Shortcuts Press one of the four colored buttons on your remote control to quickly perform various functions: 5th Annual Marseilles Holiday Tournament Supports MES Booster Club Marseilles Elementary School will be hosting the 5th annual Marseilles Holiday Tournament Thursday, December 26th thru Monday, December 30th. The tournament is a high school boy s basketball tournament played at Marseilles Elementary School. The teams in this year s tournament are; Dwight, Flanagan/Cornell, Kewanee, Lexington, Midland, Reed-Custer, Marquette, Woodland, Serena, Leland/Earlville, Chicago St. Benedict, Putnam County, Gardner/South Wilmington, Hartsburg/Emden, Spring Valley Hall, and Lamoille/Ohio. Peru St. Bede won the 2012 tournament in front of a packed house against Kewanee. The tournament is the main fundraiser for the Marseilles Booster Club. The Booster Club is responsible for most of the expenses for all extra-curricular activities at Marseilles Elementary. They continue to purchase uniforms and team supplies, along with paying for the transportation costs and many improvements to the sports facilities at MES. The first year s tournament had eight teams and grew to twelve teams the second year. The 2011 tournament had ten teams. This is the tournament s 2nd year of having 16 teams. This will be done by hosting 8 games a day during the four day event. Members of the community and sports fans are encouraged to stop by the Marseilles Elementary School Gym and watch some exciting high school basketball during the holidays. The price of admission is $4.00 for an adults and $3.00 for students and Senior citizens. The admission price is good for the entire day. Quickly check current local weather conditions.
