Both works serves as a testament to the strength of the human spirit in the face of violence and oppression. The charming Symphony No. 10 captures the carnival atmosphere during one of Mozart s youthful excursions to Milan. This performance marks the first appearance of renowned pianist Susan Merdinger with the NSO. Brahms s Grandest Piano Concerto Music Director Lawrence Rapchak Lawrence Rapchak has served as Music Director of the Northbrook Symphony since 2001, during which time he has presented a wide range of fabulous music, from well-known masterpieces to rare and neglected works, each deserving of the care, attention and dedication that he and our musicians bring. Maestro Rapchak and the orchestra feel that every performance is a celebration not only of the music, but of the genius and vision of the composers themselves, whose work is brought to life in a unique and vivid way for our loyal and appreciative audiences. Pre-Concert Lecturer and Composer Fellow Jim Kendros Jim Kendros, often referred to as The North Shore s Favorite Music Historian, has been the Pre-Concert Lecturer for the Northbrook Symphony Orchestra since 1995. Jim also serves as the Pre-Concert Lecturer for the Lake Forest Symphony, and is often a featured speaker with the Elgin Symphony and the Fox Valley Orchestra. Two of Jim s original compositions were performed by the NSO in 2016 and 2017. Pre-concert lectures are free to all same-day concert ticket holders and start at 2:30pm prior to each Sunday concert.
