Department Curriculum Map 2018-19 Department KS3 Subject Specific Skills Students will build on their previous knowledge and skills through performing, composing and listening. They should develop their vocal and/or instrumental fluency, accuracy and expressiveness, and understand musical structures, styles, genres and traditions, identifying the expressive use of musical dimensions. They should listen with increasing discrimination and awareness to inform their practice as musicians. They should use technologies appropriately and appreciate and understand a wide range of musical contexts and styles. KS4 Examining Board: EDUQAS (WJEC) Unit 1-Performing 30% Students will be required to perform two pieces of music under exam conditions of grade 3 (minimum) standard of over 4 minutes on length. Students will need to perform a solo and an ensemble performance displaying evidence of fluency, accuracy and excellent ensemble skills. Unit 2-Composing 30% Students will complete two coms of at least 3 minutes in length in controlled assessment conditions. Com 1 will be a free com of their choice and com 2 will be a set brief provided by the examination board (EDUQAS) in the September of year 11, linking to the 4 areas of study. Students will also have to submit a com log, providing a detailed explanation of their ideas and development and will need to reference any influences from other composers. Unit 3- and 40% This unit will be externally assessed and completed under exam conditions, in the summer of year 11.
