Katy JH Musical Audition Contract Please read through this entire packet. Have it filled out, signed and bring it to the first day of auditions. We are so happy that your son/daughter has elected to audition for a production with the Company of KJH Theatre! Being a company member is a huge commitment in time and philosophy. Please read the following statement and sign and return the back portion. Calendar: Attached to this contract is a calendar that shows all of our rehearsals for the show. Please look closely at the calendar and write down any days that your student would not be able to attend rehearsal. For example, if your student has a voice lesson every Wednesday and would need to leave at 4:30, please write voice lesson 4:30 on each Wednesday. Please be sure to write down any and all conflicts such as sports, activities, doctor s appointments, and so on. After the show has been cast, additions to the conflict calendar will only be made in instances of family emergencies, or in cases of illness of the student. Any other absences will be unexcused. If a student gets 2 unexcused absences, they will be removed from the show. You will notice that several rehearsals have the word blackout written by them. Those will be very important rehearsals where we need everyone in attendance and we ask that you do try to reschedule any conflicts for those days. Auditioning: Auditioning for a production is a risk and in no way guarantees a cast or crew position. Auditions will last three days. Students must be available to attend all three days of auditions to be considered for a part. Please speak with Mr. Brown in advance if you have a conflict for any of the audition days. Acting- There are script cuttings included with this packet; students should be prepared to perform the selection. Energy, movement, voice, emotion, and preparedness will be considered. We would suggest that the piece be memorized but students may have the script onstage with them. Singing- A song selection is also included in this packet. Students should learn the song and be ready to sing it in small groups and on their own. Dance/ Movement- A part of the audition will also be dedicated to teaching the group a short dance combination. Students should wear clothes that they can easily move in. Behavior at the audition- Students should also be aware that how they behave, react to other students, and listen to directors is part of the audition. Students on cell phones, excessively talking, or behaving inappropriately during the audition may be asked to leave. Please understand that the final decision of casting/crew selection is the position of the directors as the professionals in the educational theatre setting. These considerations are often subjective; that is the nature of the process. Attempts to protest decisions will never result in changing of casting or crew assignments and is considered inappropriate behavior.

Eligibility: In order to participate in the musical, students must pass all of their classes on the 4 th and 5 th marking periods in accordance with state law. Students who become ineligible will be removed from the production. In addition students in danger of failing leading up to the 5 th marking period may be removed from the production. Production Fee: If your student receives a role in the cast or a position in the crew, there will be a $25.00 production fee. This fee helps cover the cost of scripts, costumes, and show shirts. This fee is due to Mr. Brown by March 3 rd. In addition cast members are responsible for their own makeup kit ($20) and may need to purchase shoes. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact one of the directors. Sportsmanlike attitude and behavior is expected of students at all times. Unfortunately, not all students can be cast or assigned to a crew. The parent plays an important role in teaching the child to behave in sportsmanlike manner; please model a positive attitude regarding the audition process, and encourage your son/daughter to behave in a sportsmanlike manner regardless of the outcome of the audition and to keep at it. Steve Brown Bobby Miles Mischa Brinkmeyer Theatre Director Choir Director Asst. Choir Director ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Failure to return this signed notice, along with the attached calendar with conflicts written in and signed, will prevent selection for a cast or crew position. This contract remains in effect for the entire production process. I have read and accept the terms of the above statement. I understand that my son/daughter may or may not be cast or assigned to a crew. I will encourage my child to continue to maintain a positive attitude, put forth effort in fine arts and to strive to grow as a Performer and Artist. Parent/Guardian Signature Date I have read and accepted the terms of the above statement and I understand that I may or may not be cast or assigned to a crew. I will maintain a positive attitude in any event, and will continue to be a positive force in The Company of KJHT, the Fine Arts Department and all of my program involvements.
