4 fixed Black Burst outputs Test output in CV and Y/C Selection of 8 test patterns Output with correlated phase PAL / NTSC 1KHz balanced audio output GMB101R-M 09/06/08 1
1.0 OVERVIEW The GMB101R Black Burst and test signal generator features 4 BB outputs and the test signal is present with the PAL and Y/C formats. The unit can be used as master generator in studio, non-linear editing and OB- Van environments. The GMB101R also provides a balanced audio output at 1KHz, 0 dbm on 600Ω The GMB101R consists of a plug-in and of a separate rear part, called GRB101, on which the connectors for the connections with the external world are fitted. The plug-in and the rear part must be fitted in the ELPRO 19" 2RU standard frame with code DVR-MV/RK. By means of an internal setting, the GMB101R can also be used as NTSC generator. The BB and test outputs are synchronous for all editing type applications. The 1KHz note, present on a 3-pin terminal type connector, is of the low distortion, balanced type, with a characteristic impedance of 600Ω and is particularly useful for all audio calibrations. 2
2.0 SETTINGS A 2-position jumper on the printed circuit board makes it possible to: a) Operate the unit in PAL mode b) Operate the unit in NTSC mode The unit is factory-set with the W1 jumper in the PAL position. To access the jumper, extract the plug-in from the rack and remove its aluminum cover. The screen-printing of the pcb includes a legend (PAL/NTSC) which guides setting of the jumper according to the user's requirements. Remember that the power to the DVR-MV/RK rack must be cut off before extracting the plug-in from the rack 3
3.0 READOUTS AND CONTROLS The GMB101R features five readout leds and a control button on the front panel: 3.1 Orange NTSC led :switches on to indicate that the unit has been set to generate NTSC signals (see chap. 2.0). 3.2 Red led A :switches on in combination with leds B and C to indicate the type of output signal. (See chap. 5.0) 3.3 Red led B :switches on in combination with leds A and C to indicate the type of output signal. (See chap 5.0) 3.4 Red led C :switches on in combination with leds A and B to indicate the type of output signal. (See chap. 5.0) 3.5 TEST SELECT button :When pressed, modifies the output signal test pattern. Switching on of leds A, B and C indicates, in code, the type of output signal. (For further information, see chap. 5.0 Test Signals). 3.6 Green ON led :switches on when the plug-in is correctly powered and the internal voltages are correct. 3.1 3.2 3.3 3.4 3.5 3.6 4
4.0 NSTALLATION WARNING All operations must be carried out by qualified personnel only who must be informed of the risks of electric shock. Install the unit in the Elpro DVR-MV/RK rack. During installation of the rack, this must not be powered. WARNING The presence of the GMB101R is compatible with all plug-ins compatible with the DVR-MV/RK 1) Fasten the rear part GRB101 to the back of the rack, connecting the video and audio signals in output according to the screen-printed guide on the back of the GRB101. In particular: a) The four Black Bursts are output on the BNCs identified as: BB1, BB2, BB3, BB4. The signals are synchronous with each other and come from the same driver. b) The test signal is present concurrently on the BNC and, in Y/C format, on the mini-din 4 pin connector c) The 1 KHz balanced audio signal is present on the 3-pin terminal. Pins a and b are active; ground is identified with its characteristics symbol. The audio signal is output at 0 dbm level with impedance 600Ω. This means that if loaded with 600Ω, the level on the load will be 0 dbm, or.774vrms, or 2.18Vpp WARNING If the audio destination has a high impedance (10K Ω) the output level will be +6dBm, or 1.55Vrms, or 4.37Vpp 2) If required, position the internal jumper of the plug-in as illustrated in chap 2.0 3) Insert the GMB101R plug-in from the front panel of the rack so that its connector is inserted in the edge connector fitted on the rear part of the GRB101. 4) Power on the rack. The GMB101R plug-in is also powered automatically. Check that the green ON led is on steadily. 5
5.0 TEST SIGNALS An operator-selectable test signal is present on the BNC and mini-din 4-pin connectors identified as "TEST SIGNAL". The test signal is selected using the "TEST SELECT" button on the front of the unit. The type of output signal is indicated by a combination of three leds. Each time the button is pressed, the signal changes and switching on of the leds indicates the currently active signal. At unit power-on, the 75% Bars signal is selected. In sequence, the available test signals are as follows: -75% BARS -100% BARS -75% Y BARS -GRID -DOTS -RAMP -Y RAMP -WHITE WINDOW Correspondence between the TEST signal present on the output and switching on of the three leds A, B and C is shown below Led A Led B Led C TEST SIGNAL OFF OFF OFF 75% BARS ON OFF OFF 100% BARS OFF ON OFF 75 % Y BARS ON ON OFF GRID OFF OFF ON DOTS ON OFF ON RAMP OFF ON ON Y RAMP ON ON On WHITE WINDOW WARNING The test signal present at unit power-on can be set. To obtain a different signal from the 75% Bars at power-on, simply call the signal required and then hold down the selection button for 3 seconds. Flashing of the three leds A, B and C, indicates that the setting has been saved. 6
