I actually think it's quite exciting. To have modern day female singers paying their respects in this way, is a great compliment to Dusty. Who would you like to hear on there? Wasn't born to follow "The days have come and gone since you were here..." Posted - 25/09/2008 : 17:50:45 Kate Bush. She would be FANTASTIC doing a Dusty song. She'll do a fine tribute to la Dust. I've been wating for this kind of a credible sign. This news has made my day. Mind you I remember a tribute album that came out quite a few years ago; it was so awful I sold it on e.bay as soon as I could. I bet a few of you out there may remember it. This one looks like it will be fine. I hope they pick the singers carefully and don't just put the latest pop tots on it. And I hope they sing the songs straight and well enough for a couple of hits to come off the CD. Posted - 25/09/2008 : 22:57:48 I also love Beth Rowley's voice but I've never been a fan of Alison Moyet, even though I know Dusty liked her voice. She's apparently on there along with Natasha Bedingfield. I'd really prefer it to be more contemporary singers rather than those who were Dusty's peers, t hough must admit I'd slip Madeline in there. Adele would be a choice and Beyonce's sister Solange has been quoted as being very influenced by Dusty, so I'd welcome her too. What would be nice would be if it were a 2 CD set, with Dusty's own recordings mirroring what the other ladies sing. "The days have come and gone since you were here..." Edited by - on 25/09/2008 23:01:51 Posted - 25/09/2008 : 23:30:25 That's a great idea, Carole. Perhaps you could use your influence. Norah Jones might be good. Dianna Krall and her hubbie Elvis Costello. Leona Lewis? John Legend. Mary Chapin-Carpenter. Annie Lennox. Martha Reeves. I see a great album before me... People that can sing with real understated soul if needs be. Um...so...what is jolly Natasha going to sing... wally Little by little Posted - 26/09/2008 : 00:11:44 What about Adele? Of the new breed of singers she is great and then of course there is Beverley Knight, these two would be top of my list dustyspringfield.info/ /topic.asp?ar 2/8

Wally x 855 Posts Posted - 26/09/2008 : 00:51:40 Yes, Wally both would be great. MissDustyFanatic Posted - 26/09/2008 : 06:27:50 Haha...Josh e-mailed me (about something else) and he suggested Anggun, a favorite of mine, who I've mentioned on the Other Side of Life http://www.dustyspringfield.info/forum/topic.asp?topic_id=3691 as someone who'd do a good job singing Miss Dusty's songs. USA 2606 Posts Personally, I'd be interested to hear her sing something like 'I Think It's Gonna Rain Today' or maybe 'Je Ne Peux Pas T'En Vouloir', though I doubt any of Miss Dusty's foreign language songs would be covered, beautiful as they are. I just think Anggun has the right tone to her voice to pull it off. I also think it's highly unlikely she'd be asked, as she's not terribly well known outside of Indonesia and France. Personally, my dream list would be (in no particular order): Anggun Nadia Turner Marie Fredriksson Bettye LaVette (good choice, Humboldt) Ann Wilson Madeline Bell Jenny Berggren Carole King Gladys Knight Holly iams Dido Armstrong Annie Lennox Basia Trzetrzelewska Lulu Beth Orton Elton John Juanes Simon Bell (had to throw a few guys in there) Just by way of explanation, Nadia Turner is an American singer who first introduced me to Miss Dusty's music, and Holly iams is Hank Jr.'s daughter, and a great singer in her own right. The others (I think) are fairly well known to most people. "And I c an play the game of life...to win" Edited by - MissDustyFanatic on 26/09/2008 06:29:14 Posted - 26/09/2008 : 08:07:11 But it's going to be all female, so the guys are out To be honest, from what I've heard, the planning of this had nothing at all to do with Dusty's anniversary, they (Universal guy) hadn't even realised that there was an anniversary until it was mentioned to him. I do wonder if dustyspringfield.info/ /topic.asp?ar 3/8

all the artists will have to be under the Universal banner though. And unfortunately, I have no influence whatsoever! Shame that "The days have come and gone since you were here..." DustysBoy Posted - 26/09/2008 : 08:26:59 This really is exciting!! I can't wait to see the track listing for this CD. Makes me really wonder what other songs they picked to do. USA 2678 Posts JOSH There is a garden Something like the shadow of a butterfly And lies beyond the gates of dark and light And darling, it belongs to me Posted - 26/09/2008 : 09:20:24 I do have a feeling this will all be pop tots who don't know anything about Dusty. I've seen these 'tributes' before and they tend to be of throw away quality as the artists aren't really into their tribute they're just being commissioned to sing one song. I look at them and think what are they on there for? I think I might actually prefer a compilation of already recorded tracks by great artists that have credibility and have lots of respect for Dusty which is why they covered the songs in the first place. That could include Diana Krall, Elvis Costello, Shelby Lynne, Smokey Robinson, Annie Lennox...(can't think of anymore right now). I think Lulu and Elton would be excellent choices; they're almost mandat ory. dusty_freak I ve got a good thing Posted - 26/09/2008 : 15:43:36 Oh awesome, what a good idea for a CD I rekon Duffy but everyone compares her to Dusty anyway so who knows how that would go. Maybe Rihanna... its a bit odd but she's so popular it might sound alright. Clare xoxo Australia 5805 Posts "You know you've got it if it makes you feel good..." Posted - 26/09/2008 : 23:00:40 Funnily enough this summer I heard Little by Little in a coffee-house - unusual as it's completely unknown this side of the pond - & it occurred to me that Natasha Bedingfield could do a credible job on it. As it seems she's being touted as a "name" on this tribute I imagine she'll get one of Dusty's highest profile songs - perhaps I Only Want to Be With You (please please please don't let that be done as a ballad!). dustyspringfield.info/ /topic.asp?ar 4/8

insomniacafe Posted - 02/10/2008 : 00:45:40 I must admit, I have a real aversion to cover albums usually. I loved what Shelby did with Dusty's songs, because it was both respectful and differing in arrangement. That and I think there's a kinship (or whatever you want to call it) between the two. That said, Natasha Bedingfield is a lovely vocalist, she's got a lot of soul. And Alison Moyet, of course. Sounds fairly promising. I know Dusty had a time of it with 'The Man With The Child In His Eyes' at Drury Lane. Maybe it goes both ways and Kate would have a hard time of a Dusty song. They're not easy to do either. "And the answer will come back to you...like laughter in the wind..." Posted - 11/10/2008 : 22:37:23 Alison Moyet's contribution to the tribute is I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself - Alison herself states that in this article: http://www.mcall.com/entertainment/music/allalisonmoyet.6620525oct11,0,2836645.story Wasn't born to follow Posted - 11/10/2008 : 23:10:53 >>Maybe it goes both ways and Kate would have a hard time of a dustyspringfield.info/ /topic.asp?ar 5/8

Dusty song. They're not easy to do either.<< LOL I don't think Kate has a reputation for doing 'easy' songs, Taylor :) "..I tried so hard, all summer through.." 7603 Posts Blog- http://askyofhoney.com/ Posted - 12/10/2008 : 21:58:27 Shirley Manson of Garbage will be contributing to the Dusty tribute CD (no mention of the specific song): http://www.sundaymail.co.uk/tv-showbiz-news/entertainment- news/2008/10/12/garbage-singer-shirley-manson-to-marry-boyfriend- 78057-20795626/ Posted - 12/10/2008 : 23:13:56 So the list is growing. We have Alison Moyet, Shirley Manson, Natasha Bedingfield and Beth Rowley so far. "The days have come and gone since you were here..." Posted - 13/10/2008 : 00:43:38 I'm sure Alison will do IJDKWTDWM justice but while I've not had a listen to Beth or Shirley (& can't on this terminal) reading about them wouldn't suggest they'd be likely to cover Dusty's power ballads - which of course includes her signature tune - & I wouldn't think Natasha would either so that the announced singer that could most convincingly remake Dusty's power ballads is in fact singing one of her low-key numbers does surprise me. Not a complaint - just an observation. Altho I'd think they'd be enough of a draw to be announced early on I'm hoping Lulu & Elkie Brooks are attached to the project & more recent veterans I'd consider viable candidates would be Sam Brown - her mom Vicki was likely pregnant with her when she backed Dusty - & Anastacia & especially if I'll Try Anything is included Kim Wilde. Since I gather the lineup is already set I do wonder why it can't be announced. Tim Posted - 13/10/2008 : 01:00:15 Anastacia would do a mean 'Son of A Preacher Man'! Marketing I expect - build a bit of suspense. T new site http://www.timlloydsmith.com 3422 Posts Posted - 13/10/2008 : 08:42:14 Shirley Manson - that's a bit more intriguing to me than the other artists. Hey! This could be good! or at least interesting. dustyspringfield.info/ /topic.asp?ar 6/8

dusty_freak I ve got a good thing Posted - 13/10/2008 : 12:14:03 Oh hell yeah i definitely agree with Anastacia, she's up there in my list of fav singers Clare xoxo "You know you've got it if it makes you feel good..." Australia 5805 Posts Posted - 14/10/2008 : 00:38:05 Lisa Stansfield is another singer I'd place in the qualified-stardom strata that seems to be the tribute's labor pool who would be an effective choice. Again she'd be best suited to one of Dusty's lighter numbers - including IJDKWTDWM - ; with Alison's assignment being the latter I really can't think of a single likely candidate who might pull off Dusty's tearjerkers. Posted - 14/10/2008 : 01:25:49 I bet those poor contenders are all saying I'll sing anything but please not one of Dusty's power ballads unless I can deconstruct it into something mediocre but still quite pleasant. It'll be hats off to anyone that gives it a real go. Lisa Stansfield would be good, I agree. Brand New me? Posted - 05/01/2009 : 08:54:03 I thought I'd just bump this thread up in case anyone sees any more snippets of info on who may be singing on the album. So far we only have four names... Natasha Bedingfield Alison Moyet Shirley Manson Beth Rowley "There's a part of you that's a part of me..." Posted - 05/01/2009 : 17:47:04 I have been regularly trawling for new info re the tribute CD without result even as far as finding what songs Beth, Natasha & Shirley have cut for the tribute which would seem un-necessarily close-mouthed under any circumstances but especially when Alison's cover tune was identified without compunction. My feeling is that even Dusty's hardcore fans are hardpressed to buzz about this upcoming project without being thrown a morsel or two more. The Dusty Devotedly announcement of the CD in September stated that Simon Bell had heard some of the tracks - he mentioned Little by Little, Spooky & SOAPM without ID'ing the singers. Perhaps someone who has some personal acquaintance with Simon could drop him a polite request for some more info? Posted - 05/01/2009 : 18:08:36 Simon doesn't know an awful lot more, although he is trying to find out. dustyspringfield.info/ /topic.asp?ar 7/8

When he first heard the songs, back in September I think, he was asked not to divulge much about them. Now, he's forgotten most of what he heard! Mainly, he says, because he didn't recognise the names of some of the singers. I do believe that Amy McDonald, who we have heard of, is one of them though. "There's a part of you that's a part of me..." Posted - 05/01/2009 : 19:44:38 Well gosh & golly Caro you had another name to drop yourself! I can't find any online blurbs connecting Amy MacDonald with Dusty. The Google matches that came up took me to pages which arbitrarily mentioned Duffy as well as Amy - with Dusty as usual cited in connection with the former. I hope Simon can get some more info with the OK to pass it on. Presumably Universal clued him into the tribute to get a buzz going - providing next-to-no info about it has I think proven a supreme buzzkiller. Posted - 05/01/2009 : 22:37:01 I wasn't sitting on Amy McDonalds name btw, I just remembered it from a previous conversation when I was talking to Simon. In other words it's not just him who's forgetting I also Googled her name with Dusty and came up with nothing, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see and watch this space.
