Further details about IAF participation will be shared at a later stage. IS THERE ANY THEME OR A TOPIC FOR THE SUBMISSIONS? Jubilee Arts Festival and its three anchor events intend to offer a platform for artists across ANZ to celebrate Mawlana Hazar Imam s Diamond Jubilee through their art. In order to provide artists with additional creative and artistic direction as they develop their submission, four creative prompts have been developed. A creative prompt is a word, phrase or idea that provokes and inspires creative or critical thought from an artist. Prompts are often used by artists to help them think about complex themes in simple and relatable terms. Artists are required to incorporate one of these four creative prompts: Legacy Aspiration Time Devotion Artists are encouraged to be creative with use of the prompts. As part of the application process, artists will be asked to describe how your submission connects to one of the creative prompts. 8

EXAMPLES OF HOW TO USE THE CREATIVE PROMPTS Below are some examples to help you understand the creative prompts. However, you should be as creative as you can be in connecting to one or more of these broad ideas. Voice: Select or create a song with language about legacy (e.g., songs about family and parent/child relationships, or a cover song or medley of songs from an illustrious artist that demonstrates that his/her legacy lives on in performance). Legacy Creative Arts: Choose or create pieces of poetry with language about legacy and the passing on of traditions and perform them on stage. Photography: Photograph a father passing an important family heirloom or tradition to his child. Dance: Illustrate the story of struggle and aspiration, and perhaps the achievement of a dream in the ballet or modern/contemporary styles. Aspiration Music: Select or create a piece dedicated to imitating a role model, such as playing the keyboard like Herbie Hancock, or DJ-ing like Funk Master Flex, or imitating the image of dreams into the composition of music itself, similar to Debussy s composition of Clouds and Water Games. Film: Create a movie about someone who has overcome struggles to achieve their dream/aspiration. Film: Create a time-lapse film showing the change or growth of a caterpillar into a butterfly. Time Dance: Create a group dance piece that illustrates narratively a passage through decades. Canvas: Create a painting depicting time travel. Sculpture: Create a sculpture which shows a moment frozen in time such as falling snowflake or pouring of liquid from a vessel. 9

Voice: Select or create a piece with devotional themes, such as a Qasida or selection from an Oratorio, or experiment with vocal styles that are already devotional, such as Bhajan and Qawwali, and blend these styles with other kinds of repertoire. Devotion Dance: Incorporate particular gestures that are devotional in nature, such as Pranaam (hands-closed prayer), Salaam, the bowing of heads, and even sampling such movement from across world religions and how they express devotion. Literary / Creative Arts: Select religious or devotional texts to perform onstage, such as Quranic ayats, Biblical excerpts, or mystical poetry (e.g., from Rumi and Shams). WHAT ARE THE SUBMISSION POLICIES AND GUIDELINES? Three sets of guidelines will be relevant to artists submitting to the National Arts Festival as illustrated in the figure below: General Guidelines Entry Guidelines + by category + Supporting Material by category General guidelines are applicable to all artists participating in the Arts Festival. However, in order to give maximum possible chances to the artists to showcase their creativity and work, there may be opportunities for artists to make additional submissions which can be featured at the festival. These submissions will not be considered as submissions for JAF ANZ competition or for IAF. Information on the additional submissions to be featured will be shared later in the submission cycle. Please note that this opportunity is not guaranteed as it will highly depend on the key factors such as logistical and space limitations in each regional event. If you are interested to share more work and wish to be contacted please let us know via JAF@anzni.org. 7. Prohibited Content All content must be deemed appropriate for audiences of all ages. Following are some examples of content that would not be considered appropriate for the Arts Festival: Images of the Imams or the Noorani family Clear images of children (under 18) used in film submissions, without the documented consent of a parent or legal guardian Foul or offensive images or language (e.g., excessive violence, nudity, sexually suggestive images or language, profanity) Subliminal messages to inappropriate or offensive statements Sexually suggestive or other provocative dance moves Content that has implied meanings/messages that are deemed inappropriate There may be additional examples of content that is deemed inappropriate based on parameters established by the ANZ Council and Tariqah Board and are not included in the above nonexhaustive list. 14 Arts Gallery

ARTS GALLERY The Art Gallery will be a gallery showcasing visual arts from Ismaili talent from around ANZ. Curated and displayed in a formal, high quality setting, the Art Gallery aims to encourage an appreciation of art and its role in society through direct engagement with original works reflecting the richness and diversity of our Global Jamat. The Gallery will provide a visual platform for critical thinking across cultures, disciplines, media and contexts. The Jubilee Arts Festival invites submissions from across eight categories in the visual arts: Canvas Media, Paper Media, Graphic Design/Print Media, 3-Dimensional/Sculpture, Photography, Mixed Media, Art, Digital Installations, and Built Environment. All Jamati members who wish to participate may submit their artwork to their respective city s National Art Gallery. Artists are encouraged to collaborate in producing an artwork; there is no maximum number of artists for any submission. SUBMISSION CATEGORIES AND ENTRY GUIDELINES Canvas Media: Canvas Media is artwork that is hand-painted or hand-drawn on canvas cloth. Canvas media is often mounted on a wood frame and hung on walls. The methods or tools used to paint on canvas may vary, though traditionally these artworks are painted or drawn by an instrument such as a paintbrush or the artist s fingers. Paper Media: Paper Media includes hand-painted or hand-drawn artwork on fine art quality paper. Submissions in this category may have been created with pencils, ink, or any other tool used to hand-paint or hand-draw the artwork. Paper Media pieces are also often framed and hung on a wall. Graphic Design/Print Media: Graphic Design/Print Media is artwork that is printed, for example through screen-printing or digital printing. Screen-printing is one of the most traditional methods of printing, while digital printing is the most common. Graphic Design/Print Media artists typically create their original artwork on a computer and print it using one of these methods. 3-Dimensional (Sculpture) Media: 3-Dimensional ( 3D ) Media involves creating a sculpture, which is essentially a freestanding object. Photography Media: Photography Media includes photos of people, places, objects, or spaces captured using a digital 15

or film camera. Photographers generally reproduce their photographs in print and this type of artwork is also often framed and hung on a wall. Mixed/ Assembled Media Mixed/Assembled Media is artwork that combines the above types of art media to create one piece of art. Art & Digital Installations Art & Digital Installations include custom artwork that is created to transform a space and allows the audience to interact with the piece using more than one of their senses, usually touch, sound and sight. An installation piece will generally serve to transform the space into something the audience can fully immerse themselves in. Built Environment The focus here is on the built environment, which refers to the man-made surroundings that provide the setting for human activity, ranging in scale from buildings to parks. It has been defined as "the humanitarian-made space in which people live, work, and recreate on a day-to-day basis". Many will relate this to architecture, which is both the process and product of planning, designing and constructing a physical structure or space, such as buildings, landscapes, open areas, urban development, and other environmental projects. Architecture can also include the preservation and restoration of historic buildings and spaces. Material and design elements often vary across global regions, and often have cultural significance. JUDGING CRITERIA Creativity/Content: o Use of creative prompts - Uniqueness of concept o Creativity and originality of the depicted theme Elements of Art/Composition: o Effective use and complexity of standard elements of art relevant to the sub-category e.g. visual art, photography or architecture Technique, Execution, Artistic Talent o Technical Excellence/Technique o Workmanship o Craftsmanship Appearance, Presentation, Final Product o Professional Quality o Presentation. 16

ENTRY GUIDELINES BY CATEGORY In addition to the general guidelines above that apply to all artists and submissions, artists need to adhere to the entry guidelines available for each category on the.ismaili\anz website https://the.ismaili/jubilee-arts-festival-anz Note that artists may collaborate in producing a piece of art however there is a maximum number of 20 artists per submission in the Talent Showcase category. Performances submitted for the Talent Showcase must be performed by the artist(s) who submit(s) that performance. Performers do not need to be the original authors, composers, singers, choreographers, or musicians for the musical, vocal, dance or creative art piece to be performed. Performers must obtain all permissions necessary in order to perform the music, song, written word, or script that they are performing, as well as for any accompanying visual or musical pieces. Performers must attribute the song, music, written word, and/or script to the original artist. Artists must retain written documentation of all licenses obtained and may be asked to produce such documentation in the event of a dispute. Any original written submissions for any performances for the Talent Showcase, including but not limited to poetry, songs, devotional expressions, stories, and scripts, and the lyrics of any submissions, will be subject to review and revision by the National JAF Team prior to the performance of those submissions as part of the Jubilee Arts Festival. 25

SUPPORTING MATERIAL Along with the submission of the performance, artists should also provide certain supporting documents to offer insight into their history as artists and the development of their pieces for the Talent Showcase. This information will be used in a variety of ways to allow judges and spectators to engage with and understand artists indirectly. For example, video narratives can be used to show spectators how a piece transitions from concept to final form. Submission Content Description Biodata Submission Summary Art in the Making Technical Requirements for the Performance Performance Credits o Artist biography, including name, birthdate, any education and artistic credits/awards and title of film. o In the case of a group performance, each person should submit the information outlined above o Narrative summary (up to 500 words) describing the concept of the submission; how the work incorporates the creative prompts (devotion, legacy, time, and aspiration); and rationale for chosen mediums. This summary will be reviewed by judges as part of the evaluation process. o Video narrative (1 minute) or series of images in which the artist 1) tells their story or professional history and 2) demonstrates the progression of the submission from concept to draft to final performance o Technical rider for the performance outlining required supports, e.g., how many mics and what kind, what kind of audio will be required (e.g., microphone or lead to a PA), monitors, projection screens, etc. o For example: "I am a kathak dancer performing with a tabla player. My tabla player will require two area mics on stands pointed to the floor to amplify his set of drums. I will require a mic on a stand. We will have a background track that plays for the duration of our performance. We will require one monitor (wedge, on stage). The house mix should include the tabla and my standing mic as loudest, with the background track as less of a priority." o Names of supporting artists: choreographers, musicians, etc o Any other collaborators o Special thanks (e.g. to government entities) 26

In your light, I learn how to love. In your beauty, how to make poems. You dance inside my chest where no-one sees you, but sometimes I do, and that sight becomes this art. - Rumi 27
