INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP PROGRAM 2018/2019 L I S P A B E R L I N

B ERLIN Dear Reader, In addition to our full time certificate, MA and MFA programs we are happy to offer this year again a rich workshop program to practitioners from around the world. Our International Workshop Program 2018/2019 offers 4 Intensives of 5 to 11 weeks. Intensive 1 and 2 are made of independent workshops, which allow an exploration of LISPA s pedagogical matrix in a more compact way. Intensive 3 and 4 address advanced practitioners in the field of devised theatre and performance with an interest in deepening their experience over a longer period of time around specific themes. The workshop program is geared towards practitioners, who wish to explore fundamental cornerstones or specific themes over a shorter period of time, whether for artistic growth as a devising artist or for further expertise as an educator, workshop leader or healing artist. We envision this series to be an excellent opportunity to open new doors, widen horizons, deepen your visions and create new contacts with participants from around the world in the highly international environment of the school. With best wishes, Thomas Prattki Founder and Director London International School of Performing Arts Lispa Neo Institute for Integral Movement and Performance Practice WEEK 1

OCT 8-NOV 9, 2018 INTENSIVE I EMBODIED WISDOM The first Intensive offers an insight into the most fundamental principles of our pedagogy. It introduces participants to our understanding of creativity as a result of an ever evolving dialogue with and in between the different layers of our body, leading towards a deeper awareness for the embodied wisdom we hold. Each of the 3 workshops of this intensive will invite you to connect through movement, improvisation and the process of devising with a different layer of your creative Self, the Playful Body, the Mythic Body and the Poetic Body, allowing you to develop a deeper sense for your aliveness and the Body we are in difference to the body we have. We consider the dialogue with the different layers of your creative Self as the most important precondition for the process of creating your own artistic work and a truly autonomous life. Each workshop forms a complete unit in itself, giving you the opportunity to choose a workshop of your interest or to complete the entire intensive through participation in all 3 workshops. OCT 8-12 2018 / MONDAY-FRIDAY WORKSHOP l THE PLAYFUL BODY THE PLEASURE OF BEING IN THE NOW 1 WEEK 350,00 EURO Curiosity and drive are two of the most significant forces in any creative process. While the latter asks for inner focus, determination and also patience, the first allows us to stay in a state of joyful receptiveness to stimuli from around and within.the combination of both can be called Playfulness - a state of Flow, where our body and mind surrender to the pleasure of being fully in the Now. The workshop is an invitation to connect with our Playfulness and Folie through intense body work, improvisation sessions to unearth the wildness of our clown state along with painting and devising sessions.

OCT 15-26, 2018 / MONDAY-FRIDAY WORKSHOP ll THE POETIQUE BODY MOVING BEYOND BOUNDARIES 2 WEEKS 700,00 EURO The workshop invites participants to explore a further cornerstone of our pedagogy for the devising artist - the concept of Poetic Embodiment. Seeing the world as an extension of our body, mind and imagination and trying to establish a deeper connection with the rhythms in music, painting, poetry and architecture through movement, improvisation, painting and sculpting, participants are invited to create an awareness for the profound interrelatedness of life in all its differentiated forms. I am music, color and poetry, I am form and chaos, shadow and light, in constant transformation. The process of Embodiment will initiate a different way of writing - a writing from the body. The results of this exploration will be presented at the end of the workshop. OCT 29-9 NOV 2018 / MONDAY-FRIDAY WORKSHOP lll THE MYTHIC BODY IN CONTACT WITH THE SELF 2 WEEKS 800,00 EURO Myths offer us a connection with the collective images, grand questions and deep wisdom of humankind. They are the link between the movements of our daily life and the rhythms of another body of a more transpersonal nature deep within us. The workshop offers participants an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of the vital function of myth for our artistic and personal development through an exploration of myths and masks, which introduce us to the deeply transformative journey of Individuation - the journey towards self awareness and autonomy. Using Neutral Masks and Shadow Masks from still existing traditions, participants are invited to dive into the world of our collective imagination, where hero/ines and dragons, the Holy Grail and ancient goddesses await. This 2-week workshop gives a good insight into the 3-year part-time program in Integral Movement and Performance Practice, which is offered by the Thomas Prattki Institute in collaboration with Rose Bruford as an MA program / pending accreditation, and is considered to be an audition workshop for the next cycle of IMPP starting in Feb 2019.

NOV 12-DEC 13 2018 INTENSIVE II MASKED PLAY After an exploration of fundamental principles of our pedagogy for the devising artist during the first Intensive, participants interested in the second Intensive will be given an opportunity to discover different strategies and structures of play. Each of the 3 workshops of this Intensive will have a different point of departure, moving towards the exploration of a particular dramatic structure of play. Each workshop forms a complete unit in itself and can be taken separately, while a participation in any workshop of Intensive 1 or its full completion will most likely deepen the process and understanding of the work in Intensive II. NOV 12-16, 2018 / MONDAY-FRIDAY WORKSHOP l LARVAL MASKS TOWARDS THE FANTASTICAL AND THE GROTESQUE 1 WEEK 350,00 EURO Larval Masks have their roots in the rituals of the Carnival in Basel/ Switzerland and offer us access to the playful simplicity as we find them as well in the paintings of Miro, but also to the worlds of the Fantastical and the Grotesque. After an initial playful embodiment of these masks participants are invited to explore performative languages and structures which challenge our cultural paradigms of the Normal and invite us into the worlds of our imagination, where the distortion of the body and reality as we know it announces the emergence of new visions and forms.

NOV 19-30, 2018 / MONDAY-FRIDAY WORKSHOP ll EXPRESSIVE MASKS TOWARDS PSYCHOLOGICAL DRAMA & EPIC STORYTELLING 2 WEEKS 700 EURO Expressive Masks introduce us to the physicality and spatiality of psychological drama. Before any word is spoken, the push and pulls of the drama are visible in the relationship of the masks to each other and the space. Any movement charges the space, each gesture carries a story. After an exploration of silent drama participants are then invited to create psychological characters and write and devise dramatic situations, where the spoken word and the moving body, strong feelings and even stronger fears push and pull each other in ways, which allow for a deeper understanding of psychological drama through physical movement. DEC 3-13, 2018 / MONDAY-FRIDAY WORKSHOP lll HALF MASKS TOWARDS COMEDY AND TRAGEDY 2 WEEKS 700,00 EURO Half masks invite the performer to discover the worlds of character types and their deeper drives. Their world is a world of Human Comedy, where their lives is determined by their deeper, unconscious drives.which lead to regular chaos. The workshop invites participants to discover the aliveness of these powerful masks, their physicality and use of language, which is often a language of action. After an initial exploration of different character types and an investigation into how to bring these masks to life, the workshop will move into the world of Farce, giving the participants an opportunity to write, devise and rehearse a scenario applying the dramatic structures of Farce to their own scenario. The work will be presented at the end of the workshop.

OCT 1-DEC 14 2018 INTENSIVE III NIGHT SEA JOURNEYS 11 WEEKS 4400,00 EURO This 11-week Intensive addresses advanced practitioners in the field of Devised Theatre and Performance. Applicants for this Intensive should have either completed the full time program in Devised Theatre and Performance at LISPA Berlin or a similar course at a recognized school. Participants, once accepted on this Intensive, will firstly do intense practical and theoretical research into the mythological theme of the Night Sea Journey, before imagining, devising and finally performing a group project. The motif of the Night Sea Journey is well known as a metaphor for the emergence of new paradigms and is also often associated with the creative process of the artist. Part 1 of this Intensive will take the matrix of the HeroIne s Journey as a point of departure for a Night Sea Journey into the realms of the Forbidden and the Sublime. Part 2 offers the opportunity to create, rehearse and perform a hybrid opera under the guidance of an international guest artist. OCT 1-NOV 2, 2018 / MONDAY-SATURDAY PART l INTO THE SHADOW IN QUEST OF THE FORBIDDEN AND THE SUBLIME Following the archetypal motif of the HeroIne s Journey participants are invited to explore the different stages of a Quest, leading to the discovery of a great treasure, to the contact with a goddess or in more contemporary terms to a significant paradigm shift, whether on a personal, cultural, social, political or spiritual level. The HeroIne dares to step into the Shadowlands to re-connect with those creative energies, which are unacceptable and forbidden in light of existing cultural ideals. During these 5 weeks participants will explore the different functions of myth and myth making in ancient cultures and contemporary societies. They will be challenged to develop a deeper sense of their role and place as artists in today s world and what it means to become a myth maker and creator of original work. The research will be concluded with a public sharing of the results. These weeks are also considered a preparation for the performance project in part II of this Intensive.

NOV 5-DEC 14, 2018 MONDAY-SATURDAY PART II THE ORLANDO PROJECT A COLLABORATIVE DEVISED PERFORMANCE PROJECT 6 WEEKS During these 6 weeks participants will imagine and create together with international guest artist Julie Beauvais / www.juliebeauvais.com a hybrid opera, an immersive and performative installation, combining conscious movement, new music and composers, installation and architecture, video art and new technologies. The Orlando Project is part of Julie Beauvais s worldwide research and is based on Virginia Woolf s epic novel Orlando, representing a psychic androgynous figure and an emerging paradigm shift in contemporary societies from binary thinking to fluidity. The project will allow participants to explore new hybrid forms of performance, integrating ancient myths and new visions. The intensive will finish with a public presentation. www.juliebeauvais.com JAN 7-MARCH 1 2019 INTENSIVE IV THE POETICS OF DISORDER This Intensive addresses practitioners with experience in devised theatre and performance. Both workshops explore the deeper dynamics of anarchy, chaos and disorder, and what role they play in art, the creative process and our lives at large.

JAN 7-FEB 1, 2019 WORKSHOP l THEATRE OF THE GROTESQUE DISTORTIONS OF NORMATIVITY 1600,00 EURO Starting with the distortions of the human body as found in the paintings of Francis Bacon, Cubism and Surrealism participants will explore practically and theoretically the foundations of the Theatre of the Grotesque, which aims to confront us with the cruelties of life through painful laugh and a sense of tragic bewilderment. At the same time the distortions of normativity allow for the creation of new visions, whether only in our imagination or through artistic, social or political action. Participants will share their research at the end of the workshop with an invited audience. FEB 4-MARCH 1, 2019 WORKSHOP ll CLOWN AND COMICAL WORLDS FROM THE RIDICULOUS TO THE ABSURD 1600,00 EURO This workshop explores the nature of our personal Folie, source of our deepest creativity. Starting with the Red Nose and an approach to our stupidity participants will move through the deeply poetic spaces of the Ridiculous, the Absurd, the Burlesque and the Tragic in quest of their own clown. The workshop will finish with a presentation of the participants research into the different comical worlds.
