We have had an extrardinary year with fantastic events filled with superb music. I'm delighted t say that Steven Branyn shared his talents in ur last Nn Friday Recital fr the year. Persnally, I fund his chice f repertire t be thught prvking and elquently presented. Additinally, ur Festival f Keys cncert at First Presbyterian n Hiltn Head was a tremendus success. The sanctuary lked and felt wnderful with a respnsive, captivated audience f 800. The laughter, applause, and dnatins truly reflected the appreciatin f the perfrmance. I wuld like t persnally thank Gary Rakestraw fr his hard wrk and flexibility in printing the prgrams, Beth Crry fr being such a brilliant, willing, and talented participant, and Jerry Andersn, Duchess Raehn, and Janice Creech fr sharing their utstanding abilities with us. Our annual meeting will be held n June the 11th. Please see Debby's nte belw abut details cncerning the event. We will nt nly share fellwship and gd fd, but we will als be discussing ur upcming year in regards t prgramming and leadership. I wuld like t thank Debby and Beth fr all f their wrk in making sure next year will be anther huge success. Lastly, it is with sadness that I send my final dean's nte in ur mnthly newsletter. Over the last cuple f year's, I have had the pleasure f getting t knw and lve the musicians in Beaufrt Cunty. I've been t cncerts, dinner parties, lng weekends, churches, recitals, and thrugh them all, I feel like I've made life lng friends with mst. I have accepted the psitin as Directr f Music and Organist at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Summerville, SC. Althugh I will have the pprtunity t explre and enjy the musical attributes f the Charlestn area, I will deeply miss all f yu and the fellwship we have had with ne anther. A Nte frm ur Sub-Dean Our Lw Cuntry Chapter Annual Meeting and Dinner will be held at the hme f Margaret and Steve Bukksy n June 11 at 6 PM. It will als be a farewell t ur Dean Chad Martin as he leaves us and pursues his next adventure. Margaret has already dne a lt f the planning fr this picnic and supplying: hamburgers, ht dgs, sweet Italian sausage and Steve is making his smked salmn spread fr an appetizer. Gary is picking up the wine, lemnade and iced tea. Beth Crry and I are bringing dessert. Gray, III, frmer member f Lw Cuntry Chapter and native f Beaufrt, SC, has been hired as Directr f Music and Organist fr St. Jhn the Evangelist Episcpal Church in St. Paul, MN. He will be the first full-time leader fr all music ministry at the lng-established St. Jhn s and will assume duties n September 1, 2018. Richard has gained a wealth f knwledge, skill, and training in the wrk f church music having just cmpleted a term as Organ Schlar fr the prestigius music prgram f St. Gerge s Episcpal Church in Nashville, TN. In that pst, Richard wrked in every aspect f a large and vibrant church music prgram frm cnducting multiple chirs, administratin, playing the rgan, and cllabrating n liturgy and music with a talented staff. Richard has stated that he lves being immersed in the Episcpal Traditin, a church he has chsen as his faith hme. Richard did his undergraduate wrk in rgan at Oberlin Cnservatry in OH and received a Master f Music degree in Organ Perfrmance at Suthern Methdist University in Dallas, TX. During his graduate wrk, he was rganist at Highland Park Presbyterian Church, a parish knwn fr its excellent music prgram. The pastr f St. Jhn the Evangelist states, It was clear t me and the search cmmittee that beynd Richard s cnsiderable gifts and talents, he understands that Church Music is ministry dne in respnse t a lving Gd and as a part f building up Gd s peple fr service in the wrld. Richard als shwed a real grasp f the imprtance f music as integral t faith develpment fr peple f all ages. While he will have principal versight f the adult chir and bells, Richard is eager t engage even mre yuth and children in ur music and t grw ur prgram. It is my hpe that ur cngregatin will find Richard, as did thse wh met him in his inpersn interviews, t be an affable, wise, enthusiastic individual wh als happens t be quite accmplished and excellent at and passinate abut, church music. Richard writes, Church music has been a passin f mine fr as lng as I can remember, and what I enjy mst abut it is that it is such a cmmunal and cllabrative way f making music fr the Lrd. Cming int this wnderfully active cmmunity t d what I lve is very exciting. I was drawn t St. Jhn the Evangelist because I had a sense that this is a strng church family, ne where the ministries and grups f the parish wrk actively with ne anther and cmplement each ther. In additin t all the wnderful parts that make this church whle, I was delighted and pleased t see all the ways in which this parish serves as an utreach t the cmmunity. Becming a part f this will truly be a blessing. I lk frward t mving my life t the Twin Cities and beginning this next chapter with St. Jhn s!
