The Traditional Christmas Carol Concert brings a superb selection of musical favourites and gives you the chance to join in and sing in the fantastic Sheldonian Theatre. The Christmas Concerto by Candlelight is a truly magical musical experience in the superb acoustics of Exeter College Chapel. To welcome 2019, the exuberant Stephen Bell presents his unmissable Viennese New Year Concert featuring the superb tenor, Joshua Ellicott. Then we have a special treat for Valentine s Day with a Salute to Love recital from our Artist in Residence, Tom Poster, and violinist Elena Urioste, and March sees the joyful return of Springtime Baroque in a fundraising Dogs for Good concert. 87241 COO Ox Orchestra Events 2018.qxp_COO 05/09/2018 11:28 Page 8 Friday 22 March 8pm Sheldonian Theatre Dogs for Good Dogs for Good (formerly Dogs for the Disabled), was founded in 1988 by Frances Hay, herself disabled, and a lifelong animal lover and dog owner. Frances recognised that the strong bond she enjoyed with her own dog helped to maintain her independence, and also that her dog was able to carry out small but vitally important tasks such as picking up dropped items and steadying her while she stood up and walked. Since then, Dogs for Good has transformed the lives of thousands of adults and children with disabilities, by partnering them with dogs that offer both physical and emotional support. In 2004, Dogs for Good introduced the UK s first assistance dogs for children with physical disabilities. Shortly afterwards the charity developed their service for children with autism and, most recently, have worked with Alzheimer Scotland to train dementia assistance dogs. The charity also now trains activity and therapy dogs to work with specialist handlers in hospitals, schools and social care settings, supporting people with a wide range of conditions including learning disabilities, dementia, physical disabilities and autism.
