Settng up the montor System Hardware Requrements Ths montor requres a computer wth a sutable on-board sub-system or Vdeo Adapter card that can support XGA 1024 x 768, SVGA 800 x 600, or VGA 640 x 480 at 60Hz. Handlng Instructons 1. Do not support the montor wthn the screen area. The Lqud Crystal Dsplay s glass and can be damaged by rough handlng or excessve pressure. 2. Before usng your montor for the frst tme, remove the clear protectve flm from the front of the screen. 2

Montor Installaton ENGLISH Connectng your Montor 1. Turn off your computer and all attached devces. Next, unplug the power cord(s) to your computer and all attached devces. 2. Connect the sgnal cable. The analog sgnal cable s already connected to your montor. The analog connector s the blue connector. When connectng the analog sgnal cable (Fgure A) Connect the free end of the attached sgnal cable to the 15-pn Montor port on the computer and tghten screws. (Fgure A) If connectng a DVI-D dgtal sgnal cable (Fgure B) Connect one end of the montor sgnal cable to the whte connector on the rear panel of the montor. Connect the other end to the whte connector on the rear panel of the computer and tghten the screws. Cable not suppled (Optonal) (Fgure B) 3

3. Connect the power cord to the montor and then plug the power cord nto a properly grounded outlet. Next, reconnect the power cord(s) to your computer and all attached devces. Swtchng on your Montor 1. Swtch on your montor by pushng and releasng the power swtch marked [ ] at the front of the bezel. [To swtch off your montor, push and release the power swtch agan.] 2. Swtch on your computer. 3. If you are usng the analog connector, run AUTO SETUP by followng the nstructons n the Auto Setup secton on page 8. 4

Montor Drver Installaton ENGLISH Drver nstallaton for Wndows 95 or Wndows 98 Ths secton must be completed before contnung wth the Wndows95 or Wndows98 Auto Setup on page 9. On LCD montors, unlke CRTs, a faster refresh rate does not mprove dsplay qualty. IBM recommends usng ether 1024 x 768 at a refresh rate of 60Hz or 640 x 480 at a refresh rate of 60Hz. To use the Plug and Play feature n Mcrosoft Wndows 95 or Wndows 98, fles should be loaded from the IBM Montor CD. 1. Turn off the computer and all attached devces. 2. Ensure that the montor s connected correctly. 3. Turn on the montor and then the system unt. Allow the system to boot nto Wndows95 or Wndows98. Your computer s Plug and Play code may warn you that your system hardware has changed. Ths means that t has detected your new montor for the frst tme. 4. Open the DISPLAY PROPERTIES wndow by clckng START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL and then double - clckng on the DISPLAY con. 5. Clck the SETTINGS tab. In case of Wndows 95 : 6-1. Clck the CHANGE DISPLAY TYPE button. 2. Clck the CHANGE MONITOR TYPE button. In case of Wndows 98 : 6-1. Clck the ADVANCED button. 2. Clck the MONITOR tab. 3. Open the UPGRADE DEVICE DRIVER WIZARD wndow by clckng on CHANGE button and then select the NEXT button. 4. Clck the Dsplay a lst of the known drvers for ths devce so that I can choose a specfc drver and then select the NEXT button. 7. Insert the Setup CD nto the CD drver: and clck the HAVE DISK button. 8. Clck OK. 9. Ensure that the CD drve letter s selected, and then select the Drvers folder. 10.Choose IBM T541 montor and Clck OK. The fles wll be coped from the CD to your hard dsk drve. 11.Close all open wndows and remove the CD. 12.Restart the system. The system wll automatcally select the maxmum refresh rate and correspondng Color Matchng Profles. 5

On LCD montors, unlke CRTs, a faster refresh rate does not mprove dsplay qualty. IBM recommends usng ether 1024 x 768 at a refresh rate of 60Hz or 640 x 480 at a refresh rate of 60Hz. To use the Plug and Play feature n Mcrosoft Wndows 2000 or Mcrosoft Wndows Mllennum Edton(Me) fles should be loaded from the IBM Montor CD. 1. Turn off the computer and all attached devces. 2. Ensure that the montor s connected correctly. 3. Turn on the montor and then the system unt. Allow the system to boot nto Wndows 2000 or Wndows Me. 4. Open the DISPLAY PROPERTIES wndow by clckng START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL and then double-clckng the DISPLAY con. 5. Clck the SETTINGS tab. 6. Clck the ADVANCED button. 7. Clck the MONITOR tab. 8. Clck the PROPERTIES button. 9. Clck the PROPERTIES button. 9. Clck the DRIVER tab. 10.Open the Hardware Update Wzard wndow by clckng on UPDATE DRIVER and then Clck the NEXT button. 11.Select the Install from a lst or Specfc locaton(advanced) and then Clck the NEXT button. 12.Insert the Setup CD nto the CD drve : and clck the HAVE DISK button. 13.Clck OK. 14.Ensure that the CD drve letter s selected, and then select the Drvers folder. 15.Choose IBM T541 montor and Clck OK. The fles wll be coped from the CD to your hard dsk drve. 16.Close all open wndows and remove the CD. 17.Restart the system. The system wll automatcally select the maxmum refresh rate and correspondng Color Matchng Profles. 7

Image Setup for analog nput Auto Setup Before carryng out ths secton, t s very mportant that the correct montor drvers have been nstalled.(see pages 5 and 7) The Setup Utlty ncluded on the setup CD dsplays a test pattern of dots. It does not replace or modfy the dsplay drvers. The Auto Setup nstructons requre the montor to be warmed up for 15 mnutes. Ths s not requred for normal operaton. If your computer does not run wth the setup CD shpped wth the montor, refer to Manual Setup on page 11. The AUTO SETUP process only apples to the current screen mode. When a new mode s selected, repeat ths secton to reset the montor. For dgtal nput, mage setup s not requred. When you frst use your montor, you must perform Auto Setup for analog nput. If you are usng dgtal nput, contnue wth the nstructons on page 12. Ths procedure sets up your montor to process the vdeo sgnals from your computer wthout mage dscoloraton or smearng. After you perform Auto Setup, the settngs are stored and used each tme you turn on the montor. In order to optmze the dsplayed mage a set-up utlty s provded on the IBM Montor CD. Operaton of ths utlty s dependent on the operatng system on your computer. You may choose to run AUTO SETUP for each operatng system that you use. Ths means that f you sometmes use your montor whle runnng any verson of Wndows and sometmes also use t from wthn DOS (not a DOS wndow), you must run AUTO SETUP for both Wndows and DOS. You may run versons of AUTO SETUP n any order. Before you begn AUTO SETUP for your computer, make sure the computer vdeo mode s set n the range of the supported screen resoluton shown n the table on page 18. You should perform AUTO SETUP for each screen mode you use. 8

AutoSetup for Wndows 3.1, Wndows 95, Wndows 98, Wndows 2000, Wndows Me, Wndows XP or Wndows NT If the montor s n standby mode (STANDBY ON), t may automatcally turn off whle you are watng for t to warm up. 1. Turn on the montor frst; then the computer. If the message CHECK VIDEO CABLE s dsplayed, or f nothng s dsplayed, check: that the vdeo nterface cable s not connected properly. the correct vdeo adapter card s not nstalled. ENGLISH The sze and dversty of the dot pattern vares wth the screen resoluton. Poston the mouse ponter at the bottom center of the screen. Ths allows AUTO SETUP to run properly 2. Wat approxmately 15 mnutes, untl the montor warms up. 3. Ensure that the con bar and tool bar, f dsplayed are at the bottom of the screen. 4. Insert the CD labelled IBM Montor CD nto the CD drve. 5. Check the operatng system nstalled on your computer and follow the nstructons from the table below. Operatng System Wndows 3.1 Wndows 95 Wndows 98 Wndows 2000 Wndows Me Wndows XP Mcrosoft Wndows NT 4.0 Step1 Open PROGRAM Manager Select START Step2 Select RUN Select RUN Step3 Type E:\TESTPAT and press ENTER 6. When the test pattern appears, press the Image Setup drect access button at the bottom of the montor to run the mage setup. 7. To clear the Image Setup test pattern, press the ESC key on your keybord. You have completed the montor setup for Wndows. If you use other operatng systems, perform the approprate AUTO SETUP for those systems and also see Adjustng the mage settngs n DOS on page 10. 9

Adjustng the mage settngs n DOS If the montor s n standby mode (STANDBY ON), t may automatcally turn off whle you are watng for t to warm up. If ths happens, swtch off the montor and swtch t on agan after a few seconds. If you are usng PC-DOS/V, change to U.S. mode by typng CHEV US and pressng ENTER at the command prompt. You must use when you run DOS Auto Setup. The sze and dversty of the dot pattern vares wth the screen resoluton. If the screen flckers, repeat the setup several tmes untl the flcker s mnmsed, or adjust t manually by followng refer to Manual Setup on page 11. 1. Turn on the montor frst; then the computer. If the message CHECK VIDEO CABLE s dsplayed, or f nothng s dsplayed, check: that the vdeo nterface cable s not connected properly. the correct vdeo adapter card s not nstalled. 2. Wat approxmately 15 mnutes, untl the montor warms up. 3. Insert the CD labelled IBM Montor CD nto the CD drve. 4. Dsplay the command prompt screen of the DOS full-screen dsplay. 5. At the command prompt, type the CD drve letter, and press ENTER. 6. Type TESTPATD and press ENTER. 7. Select from the screen the number for the color or text mode you want to setup. 8. Select from the screen the number for the vdeo mode you want to setup. You may repeat ths process for as many of the color and vdeo modes as you need. 9. When the test pattern appears, press the Image Setup drect access button at the bottom of the montor to run the mage setup. 10. To clear the Image Setup test pattern, press the ESC key on your keybord. 11. Type Ext at the command prompt to return to Wndows. If you use other operatng systems, perform the approprate Image Setup for those systems and also see Image Setup Wndows 3.1, Wndows 95, Wndows 98, Wndows 2000, Wndows Me, Wndow XP or Wndows NT workstaton on page 9. 10

Manually adjustng the mage settngs ENGLISH If the montor s n standby mode (STANDBY ON), t mght automatcally turn off whle you are watng for t to warm up. Normally, you can complete the setup procedure usng Image Setup, however, f your screen mage s stll dstorted after you perform Image Setup or the setup CD does not run on your system, perform MANUAL SETUP. 1. Have your montor turned on for about 15 mnutes, untl the montor warms up. 2. Dsplay the mage you most frequently use on the screen. 3. Press the OSD Enter button at the botton of the montor to dsplay the ntal OSD menu. 4. Use an Arrow button ( or ) to select the IMAGE SET-UP con and press the OSD Enter button to access the functon. 5. Usng an Arrow button ( or ), select MANUAL, press and then press once to select COARSE. Left and rght arrow adjustment ndcators become llumnated (see page 16). 6. Use the Arrow buttons to manually adjust to correct (as much as possble) for jtter or nose n the mage, then press to save the changes. 7. Use an Arrow button to select FINE and press the button. 8. Use the Arrow buttons agan to tune the mage to your lkng. 9. When fnshed, press the Ext button four tmes to ext from the OSD. You have completed the montor setup. 11

Ergonomc Consderatons Workplace Preparaton Ths secton gves advce on what you should consder before you set up your montor. Heght Poston the montor so that the top of the screen s slghtly below your eye level when you st at your workstaton. Orentaton - Choose a poston that gves the least reflecton from lghts and wndows, usually at a rght angle to any wndows. - Poston the montor drectly n front of you so that you do not have to twst your body to use t. - Tlt the montor to a comfortable vewng angle. Workng Practces Ths secton gves advce on how you can work comfortably and reduce fatgue. Rest Take regular breaks. Vary your posture, stand up and stretch occasonally as prolonged use of computer workstatons can be trng. Back St back n your char and use the backrest. Hands Use a lght touch on the keyboard, keepng your hands and fngers relaxed. Allow a space n front of the keyboard to rest your wrsts when not typng. Consder usng a wrstpad. Eyesght Workng wth montors, n common wth any prolonged close work, can be vsually demandng. Look away from the screen perodcally and have your eyesght checked regularly. Adjustng the Montor Poston ENGLISH Wth the IBM Flat Panel Montor, you can adjust ts poston n varous ways for maxmum comfort. Vewng Angle You can tlt the screen forward and backward as shown below. (Fgure A) Carng for your Montor Be sure to turn off the power before you perform any mantenance on the montor. Clean your montor as follows: Gently wpe the covers and the screen wth a soft cloth. Remove fnger marks and grease wth a damp cloth and mld detergent. Never use flammable cleanng materals to clean your IBM montor or any other electrcal apparatus. 13

ENGLISH On-screen dsplay (OSD) controls The LCD montor needs tme to become thermally stable the frst tme you turn t on each day. Thus, to acheve more accurate adjustments for parameters, allow the LCD montor to warm up (be On) for at least 15 mnutes before makng any screen adjustment. Further Informaton Dsplay modes If your computer has prevously been used wth a CRT montor and s currently confgured to a dsplay mode outsde the range that the Flat Panel montor can dsplay, you may need to re-attach the CRT montor temporarly untl you have reconfgured the computer, preferably to 1024 x 768 at 60Hz. The dsplay mode the montor uses s controlled by the computer. Therefore, you should refer to your computer documentaton for detals on how to change dsplay modes. The mage sze, poston and shape may change when the dsplay mode changes. Ths s normal and the mage can be readjusted usng AUTO SETUP and the montor controls. Unlke CRT montors, whch requre a hgh refresh rate to mnmze flcker, TFT technology s nherently flcker-free. If possble, confgure your computer for 1024 x 768 addressablty at 60Hz vertcal refresh rate. ENGLISH Power Management To beneft from power management, the montor must be used n conjuncton wth a computer that mplements the Vdeo Electroncs Standards Assocaton (VESA) Dsplay Power Management Sgnalng (DPMS) Standard. The power management feature s nvoked when the computer recognzes that you have not used your mouse or keyboard for a user-defnable perod. There are several states as descrbed n the table below. As an ENERGY STAR 2000 Partner, IBM has determned that ths product meets the ENERGY STAR 2000 gudelnes for energy effcency. IBM recommends that you swtch off your montor at the end of each workng day, or whenever you expect to leave t unused for long perods durng the day. Troubleshootng If you have a problem settng up or usng your montor, you may be able to solve t yourself. Before callng your retaler or IBM, try the suggested actons that are approprate to your problem. Problem Possble Cause Suggested Acton Reference Screen s blank and power ndcator s off.
