1.0 OVERVIEW Thank you for choosing this product. Check that the following items are included in the packaging: The MDS unit This handbook The mains cable IR control Floppy disk with the application software for PC control The MDS100 unit comprises two format converters: it can convert the standard TV signal into an SVGA graphic signal and the SVGA signal sent by a computer into the standard Pal and Y/C TV formats. The choice of 3 video inputs and 2 computer inputs with relative associated audio make the MDS100 the ideal solution for multimedial presentations. 3
A single SVGA output towards the video projector is an important feature of presentation systems. Likewise, a Pal or Y/C output for recording or remote forwarding of images is also useful. "System with MDS100" 4
2.0 POWER SUPPLY The MDS100 unit must be powered by 230 Vac 50Hz by means of the cable supplied. Plug the cable outlet into the relative panel plug situated to the left of the unit s rear wall. The panel plug is equipped with a fuse-holder for 5X20 fuses. In the event of fuse burnout, the replacement fuse must be of the same value, as specified on the back of the unit. All operations must be performed by specialized personnel who must be made aware of electric shock hazards. In some countries the current plug must be adapted to comply with local standard types. Wires can be identified according to the following code: -Brown PHASE (Marked with the letter L, may be red) -Blue NEUTRAL (Marked with the letter N, may be black ) -Yellow/Green GROUND (Marked with the letter E, may be green) Grounding is compulsory 5
3.0 PRESETTINGS The unit hardware has no jumper presettings. All functions are controlled by means of the keyboard and OSD (On Screen Display) or by the PC, using the connection software provided with the unit. 4.0 INSTALLATION a) Check that all units to be installed are disconnected. b) Connect the Pal sources to the two RCA sockets marked Pal1 IN and Pal2 IN VHS as source could not be visualized correctly on a LCD destination c) Connect the Y/C source to the mini-din connector marked Y/C IN d) Connect the computer sources to the HDD15p.f. connectors marked SVGA IN PC1 and PC2 e) Connect the computer destination (video projector or multiscan monitor) to the HDD15p.f. connector marked SVGA OUT and the TV standard destination to the RCA and 4-pin mini-din connectors marked VIDEO OUT Pal and Y/C. If the destination is a device LCD a VHS input could not be visualized correctly If the length of the cable used to connect the computer destination exceeds 10m. we recommend the use of an INBOX/4 as amplifier If the length of the cable used to connect the TV destination exceeds 30m. we recommend the use of a DA124 as amplifier/distributor f) Connect the stereo audio output from the 5 sources to the 5 stereo RCA sockets marked AUDIO IN. g) Connect the AUDIO OUT stereo audio outputs to the destinations, bearing in mind that the contents of the 2 outputs may differ. h) Connect the control PC as described in chapter 7.0, if required. i) Make the Vac power supply connections as described in chapter 2.0 and check on the front panel that the leds related to the Pal1 input for both outputs light up. j) Energize the sources and destinations. The source connected to the Pal1 input must be displayed on both destinations. 6
5.0 SELECTION OF SOURCES The sources must be selected separately for each of the 2 outputs. Selection is sequential and is effected by means of a pushbutton. When one of the 5 leds that represent the various inputs lights up, this indicates which input is present to the output. If PC inputs are selected on the SVGA output, these move towards the output without any further processing. If PAL and Y/C inputs are selected towards the Pal and Y/C output, these move towards the output without any further processing. When the unit is switched on, the Pal1 input is automatically activated on both outputs. 6.0 OSD FUNCTIONES (On Screen Display) OSD, for both outputs, can be controlled by means of the remote control provided. For real-time use, the MUTE AUDIO on each output can also be controlled from the keyboard. Hold down the selection key for 3 seconds to activate mute audio on the output Hold down the selection key for a further 3 seconds to deactivate mute mode. The remote control can be deactivated and reactivated from the keyboard. Hold down both selection keys to deactivate remote control. Hold down the selection keys for a further 3 seconds to reactivate remote control. 7
The following functions can be controlled by means of remote control: 1) Real-time selection of the source to be directed to the Pal output 2) Real-time selection of the source to be directed to the SVGA output 3) Mute audio on the Pal output 4) Mute audio on the SVGA output 5) OSD on the Pal output 6) OSD on the SVGA output OSD on the Pal output is only active if the PC1 or PC2 input has been selected OSD on the SVGA output is only active if the Pal1, Pal2 or Y/C input has been selected Both OSDs are managed by the commands: SEL (Select),,+ and OFF. 6.1 OSD on Pal output.
