MILL HILL NEWS FLASH PLEASE READ THIS ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT FUTURE NEWS REPORTING FOR MILL HILL U3A Dear MHU3A Member, We have been sending out electronic, monthly News Flashes ; people without an email address have received a paper copy in the post. We believe that many of our members do not get to see these News Flashes and often do not find that they give them the information that they want. For example, while our website has a complete list of the Interest Groups that we run, we believe that many members are not able to access this information. We have therefore decided to make some changes to the way we get information to you: Firstly, we are going twice-yearly to POST a simple, paper Information Bulletin to every member. This will provide: a list of the Monthly Meeting speakers and topics for the following 6 months; a complete list of all the Interest Groups that we provide, although members will still have to go to our website to contact the group leader. The Bulletin will give help on how to make contact. (continued on next page ) Mill Hill U3A News Flash No. 26, August 2018 Page no. 1

MILL HILL NEWS FLASH.. (continued from last page.) Secondly, we are changing the monthly News Flash to a 2-monthly News Sheet. As before, this will remain in electronic form (it s simply too expensive to mail out 860 copies, although those without email will continue to receive a paper copy), posted on our website, with a link provided by email. The News Sheet will continue to give Interest Groups the opportunity to send messages about their activities and to advertise trips run by the Outings and Travel Groups, but less frequently. Best wishes, MHU3A Executive Committee. Mill Hill U3A News Flash No. 26, August 2018 Page no. 2

She has asked if members would email with their thoughts as to whether this would be of interest and what sort of things, specifically, would members want to glean/ learn from, or discuss within, such a group, accepting that an Interior Design based group would not be a professional training forum. Please email Cheryl on:- cherylgurneru3a@gmail.com Mill Hill U3A News Flash No. 26, August 2018 Page no. 5

NEWS FROM THE INTEREST GROUPS (CONT.) THE ART GROUP Ian Hill runs the Group and has sent this message: One of our members mentioned an intriguing idea to me, celebrating the achievements of women, both as artists and as sitters. Bearing this in mind, a visit was carefully planned to Women in the Frame at The National Portrait Gallery on Monday 22 October at 1.30 for a 2.00pm start, with a top/popular tour guide. Women in the Frame Celebrate the centenary of some women in Britain getting vote and the publication of a new guidebook 'Women s London by exploring the portraits from the art and photographic collections. Through artists and sitters you will discover the fascinating journey of women in Britain from the Tudors to the present day. From regal monarchs, social campaigners, medical innovators and society hostesses to the sculptors and artists, Rachel will profile her favourites including Elizabeth I, Angelica Kauffman, Ellen Terry, Lady Colin Campbell and Radclyffe Hall. I am also currently researching further interesting tours, but due to the low take up at The NPG I am scared to book any guides for those in September and November. Could anyone interested in joining the Art Group please email Ian at ian9hill@gmail.com Mill Hill U3A News Flash No. 26, August 2018 Page no. 7
