Introduction The Teacher s AIDE family of Computer Lab Management Systems is designed to improve instruction efficiency in any computer-training lab. The EZ Teach Silver version of Teacher s AIDE is easy to install and use. With the EZ Teach Silver system, you will be able to better keep the students in a computer lab focused on the material that is being taught, regardless of subject matter. EZ Teach Silver delivers the following functions: Broadcast the Teacher PC Audio and Video to the entire lab, or selected groups. Turn off the monitors and/or speakers in the entire lab, or selected groups. For Windows PC s, EZ Teach Silver also delivers a set of powerful Presentation Tools that can be used to illustrate almost any application. The audio/video distribution capabilities of EZ Teach Silver will work with almost any PC operating system on the market. This includes Windows PC s, Macintosh, Linux, Sun, SGI, and any other PC hardware that uses VGA monitors and stereo mini-plug sound connections. The Teacher s AIDE Presentation Tools are only compatible with Windows based PCs. These functions are easy to use, as they are accomplished through pressing a simple button, or by clicking the mouse. Almost any teacher can become proficient with EZ Teach Silver in a few moments. EZ Teach Silver Installation 5 Easy Steps EZ Teach Components The EZ Teach Lab Management System consists of the following components: Item Part Number EZ Teach Silver Teacher Hub with 6 Group Ports, 12V AC Adapter, CSS-OT-308B 1.2M VGA Cable, 1.2M Audio Cable, 6 Terminators EZ Teach Silver 10 Button Teacher Console with RS232 Cable CSS-OT-400A EZ Teach Silver Student Box with PS/2 or USB Power Tap cable, CSS-OT-SB108B 1.2M VGA Cable, 1.2M Audio Cable (need 1 per student station) Teacher s AIDE Presentation Tools Software on CDROM for CSS-TA-CDROM Windows PCs 5V DC Adapter (can be used in place of the Power Tap cable) CSS-DC-5V EZ Teach Group Terminator (6 come with the Teacher Hub) CSS-TA-TR Your Just Add Power Technology Consultant should have helped you order the right components to install your EZ Teach system. If you ever need to order replacement parts, or make additions to your system, please refer to this chart. Page 3 of 17

In addition to the Teacher s AIDE Components mentioned above, you also need a supply of CAT5 cables to perform the installation. For most locations Unshielded Twisted Pair will deliver crystal clear video and audio to the student stations. However, if you are installing EZ Teach in a location with poor electricity quality, inadequate grounding, or missing grounding, it is necessary to use Shielded Twisted Pair (FTP) cables. Just Add Power offers quality pre-built cables that are ideal for any installation requirement. Step 1 Install the Student Boxes A Student Box is installed at each student station in the lab. You also install a Student Box to connect to any projectors in the lab. Here is a picture of the CSS-OT-SB108B Student Box: The ports are clearly labeled as follows: VGA - Connects to the Student PC VGA Adapter with the 1.2M VGA Cable MONITOR - Connects to the Student PC Monitor or to a Projector DC5V - Connects to the Student PC with the PS/2 or USB Power Tap cable LE - Connects to the Student PC Line-out with the 1.2M Stereo Cable HEADSET - Connects to the Student PC Headphones or Speakers BUS / - Connects the Slave Box in a daisy-chain to the Teacher Hub with CAT5 Cables The Group Terminator shown in the picture is installed in the last station of a group chain. It should be noted that there is no distinction between and on the BUS port, so it is OK to connect the chains in any sequence. If you prefer pictures, there is a drawing at the end of this document showing all of the connections. Page 4 of 17

Step 2 Connect the Student Boxes in a chain to the Group Bus Ports Each Student Box must be in a chain that connects to the Teacher Hub at one end. The other end of the chain has a terminator installed in the open BUS port of the last station. NOTE: The Teacher Hub must be located next to the Teacher PC in the EZ Teach Silver lab. Connect Student Boxes to Teacher Hub with CAT5 Cables Group BUS 3 Group BUS 6 Group BUS 4 Group BUS 5 Student 1 Student 7 Student 13 Student 19 Student 2 Student 8 Student 14 Student 20 Student 3 Student 9 Student 15 Student 21 Student 4 Student 10 Student 16 Student 22 Student 5 Student 11 Student 17 Student 23 (Terminator) (Terminator) (Terminator) (Terminator) Student 6 Student 12 Student 18 Student 24 When using an LCD Projector with your EZ Teach system, it is suggested that you try to have the projector on a dedicated port. This will give the teacher the flexibility to only project an image to the projector without disrupting any student screens. Page 5 of 17

Here is a picture of the Teacher Hub model CSS-OT-308B: The ports are clearly labeled as follows: RS232 - Connects to the Teacher Console with the RS232 cable MONITOR - Connects to the Teacher PC Monitor VGA - Connects to the Teacher PC VGA Adapter with the 1.2M VGA Cable HEADSET - Connects to the Teacher PC Headphones or Speakers MIC - Connects to a Microphone at the Teacher PC for teacher voice broadcast LE - Connects to the Teacher PC Line-out with the 1.2M Stereo Cable GROUP BUS - Connects to the Student Slave Boxes (unused ports must be terminated) AC12V/1A - Connects to the 12V AC Adapter Be sure to connect the 12V AC adapter to a power outlet and the AC port marked on the Teacher hub AFTER you have connected everything to the system. When the software is installed from the dealer CDROM, a 30-day demo version is activated. Within 30 days, you must contact JUST ADD POWER support to secure a software license. Otherwise the program will expire and stop working on the system. Whenever the 30-day demo version of the Teacher s AIDE Presentation Tools is executed, the following type of screen first appears: Copy this screen, or write down the 16-digit MID and the 8-digit site code. You must send both numbers to JUST ADD POWER support. You can email the screen image or hand written code to support@justaddpower.com, or you can fax it to JUST ADD POWER in the United States (727-517-4054). When using a fax, please be sure to include the email address for sending back the Init Code to unlock the software. JUST ADD POWER will use this information to determine the Init Code to unlock the program and bind the copy to the Teacher PC. We will email the Init code back to the address you have indicated. When you receive this code, click the option to Unlock application and then enter the code we have provided. Please be aware that the Init codes will be unique for each Teacher s AIDE installation, and that the Init code will only work on the PC with the MID and Site code you have provided. If the Presentation Tools software ever needs to be moved to a different PC, you must contact JUST ADD POWER support for a new Init code.
