Hope you all enjoyed your mid-year break with your children and that the wet weather didn t deter you from having fun with them. The children arrived with lots of holiday highlights and very excited for another term ahead of them. The children have been reminded of key competencies and what is expected of them as learners: listening, behaving, thinking, applying, interpreting, contributing and communicating are important in achieving their learning goals. We have two trips organised for this term: New Zealand International Film Festival for schools and a Science Roadshow at Birkdale Intermediate to explore Food Science based on our topic study this term. Congratulations to our wonderful children being showcased for their outstanding poems on the Poetry Box June Challenge by Paula Green! Rhythm and Rhymes Words coming out of my brain goes around and around like a hurricane. Verbs fly like they rage. Verbs trapped in a cage roar like a lion. Birds fly like an airplane. Light shines bright as a lighthouse. By Kingston age 8 By Dante age 10

My Holidays Day 1- Mum wanted to spend time with me because she was going to Wellington. We went to her work for the whole morning. She introduced me to all her friends. The two sitting by her was Danne and Sam. I had my own seat and used part of Mum s desk. We were there for quite a long time and I got bored. My phone died so I just drew pictures for my Mum to tell her how much I love her. In the afternoon we went to the movies to see Despicable M3. It was so funny. I laughed so much. I loved all the different characters and personalities. Day 2- I went to my uncle s for the day. I knew it was going to be a fun day. When I got to their house, I spotted the big fat cat Louie. He s very welcoming. We all went to St Luke s for breakfast before we watched Cars 3. I didn t think I would like it but it was really funny. I laughed so much tears were flowing down my cheeks. I really enjoyed it. Next we went to Jump. First I challenged my cousin Danni and won every round then Levanz took me out. He kept on winning. He is only 12 but he took out a 13 and 14 year old. I was relieved when it was time to go home. Day 3- I woke up and hugged my Mum and Dad. I was a bit upset because I was going to Wellington with my uncle, aunty and nana without my parents. My Dad dropped me off at Nana s. When I got there, we got ready and went to the airport. My uncle is a flight attendant so we parked our car in the staff parking and took a bus to the airport. We waited in the V.I.P. room and had free food and drinks. My uncle took me into the crew room and I got free magazines. When it was time for us to depart my uncle forgot to put nana s wheelchair brakes on and she went rolling. Everyone laughed. It was a very short flight. The fluffy clouds looked like candy floss. I love Wellington airport because of the hobbit creatures. The Weta Workshop is very detailed with ogre and a hobbit door at the entrance. All the weapons are made of foam and plastic. Day 4- I went to my uncle s for the last day of the holidays. First, we went to Burger Kings for breakfast. I love their chicken fries. They are so yummy! Then we went to Otahuhu for my cousin to have a haircut. He only got a line across. We picked up my aunty and went straight to bowling. But the video games was cool. My cousin Levanz kept on getting strikes and he won in the end. I got 152 tickets and got a slingshot and a bracelet. After that we went to my cousin s house for a movie night. We watched Despicable M3 and Captain Underpants. We had chicken wings and pizza for dinner and ice cream for dessert. In the morning, I got a present from my aunty and my other aunty took me and my parents for breakfast. I had a real good time. Luella
