Chapter 1. Getting started with your XBMC player 1.1 Requirements - A TV with an HDMI connection, for optimum results a Full HD TV. Not essential but nevertheless desirable, audio equipment, for optimum sound. - A network cable and a broad-band internet connection (preferably > 20 mb/s), wireless is also possible, but for optimum results we recommend using a network cable. To configure your Wi-Fi on your XBMC we refer you first to our website and then the manuals. - A remote control, or a mouse or multimedia remote control. 1.2 Connecting the media player - Connect the HDMI cable. Also to the TV and/or audio. - Insert the SD-card at the bottom of your XBMC device (this is often already done). - Insert the USB stick from Transcend into one of the USB ports (only applies if you ordered the TURBO version). - Connect the power supply and plug it into a mains outlet (230VAC). - The media player is already configured and the XBMC home screen will appear. Chapter 2. Operation of your media player 2.1 Remote control from your TV. If your TV supports HDMI-CEC (Samsung calls this Anynet+) then your TV is able to send signals via the HDMI able to connected equipment. Whether your TV supports Anynet+ CEC or not is relatively easy to find out: If your TV supports this, then your TV will automatically switch to the correct HDMI channel as soon as you switch the XBMC media player on. 2.2 XBMC Remote for IOS devices (Apple) A second control method is via XBMC Remote. This program is free from the App store (Official XBMC Remote). When you use this program for the first time on your smartphone or tablet check the following 2 things: 1) Make sure that the media player is switched on and connected to your network. 2) Make sure that your smartphone or tablet is connected via Wi-Fi to the same network. If you have followed these 2 instructions correctly then your device will automatically find the XBMC media player and everything will be configured automatically. 2.3 YATSE for ANDROID devices (such as Samsung, LG, etc...). The third control method is via the free app Yatse for Android. This free program is available in the Google Playstore (there is also a paid version, but the free version is sufficient). When you use this program for the first time on your smartphone or tablet check the following 2 things: 1) Make sure that the media player is switched on and connected to your network. 2) Make sure that your smartphone or tablet is connected via Wi-Fi to the same network. If you have followed these 2 instructions correctly then your device will automatically find the XBMC media player and everything will be configured automatically. Chapter 3. ADD-ONS (programs) We have already installed a few popular programs on this media player. - 1channel - Icefilms - Genesis - Missed broadcast - Missed XOT broadcast
- Dutch Sport streams - Mash Up - Phoenix - Adult (These are only activated on request) - A number of music programs (mp3 search, Radio, Skyradio and more) - Images from Google, Flickr - Weather forecasts for your town - ADDON installer - Dutch and English subtitles (other languages are also possible) - And much more. 3.1 Genesis The best program for movies and series with automatically downloaded Dutch subtitles and the greatest selection in movies and series. These ADD-ONS are already configured such that you can practically immediately start to watch your favorite programs with subtitles. You can search for a program in several different ways, the first time will take a little longer before all the information has been acquired. Once you have found the movie or series, you view additional information about the movie using the right mouse button, you can also place the movie under favorites so that a subsequent search will be easier and faster. You only need to click the favorites folder and your movie or series is there. When you click the movie a number of sources (streaming sources) appear from which you can select. Sometimes, when a source doesn't work or doesn't work well you can select another source which does work better. The list of sources is sometimes large and sometimes small. Unfortunately it is not the case that all the sources in the list work equally well. Some may not work (any more) and others will be slow. In case of the latter you will already notice that immediately after starting, if the movie or series doesn't play smoothly during the first 3 minutes then it would be better if you selected a different source. There is fortunately almost always a properly functioning source to be found. If you are unlucky with a few sources in a row then nevertheless continue until you have tried all the sources. Sometimes patience is the price of free. 3.3 Streaming / Downloading Your media player does not download the movie, everything is streamed immediately. This means that you can start to watch immediately, at most the movie will be buffered for a few seconds at the beginning so that your movie will not stutter when your internet speed dips for a moment. After you have started the TV series (or movie, this works in the same way) you can activate the subtitles. Incidentally, it is possible to download instead of streaming, but make sure that you comply with any copyright requirements. Chapter 4. Subtitles, Settings, synchronization. Subtitles are turned on by default, so these are automatically there. If this does not happen then no subtitles are available yet. If you would like to add subtitles manually: You can activate subtitles during the first few minutes of the movie or series (provided these are available on the internet). Activate the On Screen Display menu, you can then use your remote control to select the 4 th button from the right, this looks like a TV screen with a line at the bottom. The text for subtitles will already appear. You can no go up-arrow and click OK on downloading. It is possible that multiple subtitle files are available. Always try to establish out from the name whether a particular one corresponds with the chosen film (for example the DVD version or the 720p version). Remember that the subtitles are made by hobbyists and that multiple versions may exist which may not correspond with the video version that you selected.
When the particular subtitle you have selected is not good, then you can return to the subtitle menu and select another one. 4.1 Synchronizing subtitles It is possible that the subtitles are not running synchronously with the picture and sound. You can solve that in one of two ways. When the difference is very large then it will be better to select a different subtitle, the video version and the subtitle version that you chose apparently don't match each other. When the timing difference is not too big you can shift the subtitles earlier or later, up to 10 seconds. This is done as follows: Open the On Screen Display menu and the subtitle menu already shows Synchronize subtitles, select this. There now appears a bar at the top of your screen. With the arrows to the left or right you can adjust the timing. Once everything has been adjusted to your satisfaction you can use the back or return button of your remote control to return to the movie. * Tip: It is best to enable subtitles during the first few minutes of the movie or series. If you do this half way through or change the subtitle file half way through, then the system is too far away from the synchronization mark and it is possible that the subtitles don't start properly. 4.2 Synchronizing sound In rare cases it is possible that the sound of your movie is not synchronous with the picture. For this too XBMC has a solution. In the audio menu you will find the option Synchronize sound. Open the On Screen Display menu. Go to audio settings (the symbol of a loudspeaker). Here you will see the option Synchronise sound, click this. There now appears a bar at the top of the screen. You can change the timing by clicking the left or right arrows with your mouse. Once everything has been adjusted to your satisfaction you can use the back or return button of your remote control to return to the movie. 4.3 Youtube The Youtube App in XBMC has a different appearance than the desktop version, but is nevertheless fully featured and user friendly. This App actually avoids the annoying advertising that the desktop version of Youtube displays. In addition, all videos are automatically displayed at the highest available resolution and in full-screen mode without any unnecessary fiddling. If you really would like to make optimum use of Youtube then it is recommended that you create a free Youtube account using your desktop computer and subsequently associate the XBMC Youtube App with this account. This way you have access to all your own Youtube videos and play lists. Did you know that practically all music videos can also be found on Youtube? A play list with HD music videos is easily made using a computer and just as easily played on the media player in your lounge. A big advantage is that this media player is not considered to be a mobile device by Youtube, unlike, for example, the Apple TV. Much copyright protected content, such as video clips, are blocked for mobile display. This is not a problem with XBMC, it can play all of it.. 4.4 Dutch sports streams Via Dutch sports streams you can watch the Eredivisie Live matches while the are being broadcast live. In Dutch sports streams you go to one of the websites which broadcast live TV, such as janlul.com. * Tip: When a stream is red it can NOT be watched live. A green stream is still available. 4.5 Missed broadcast (XOT RIETER TV Online) The program contains in addition the the well-know missed broadcast app of the public broadcasters also many other TV broadcasters. Keep in mind that missed RTL is often encrypted, because this is a paid service from RTL. You will find next to RTL XL also a version with a small letter i. This version of missed RTL is not encrypted, but is in a lower resolution. Also live TV and Radio from the NPO.
Chapter 5. Connecting to your NAS If your home network has a NAS server then there is the option to connect it to XBMC. This is done as follows: Under Videos you will see in small letters files and ADD. Select files. Subsequently select add videos. Then select browse. Now choose the connection method that is appropriate for your NAS. You can now select your NAS or continue to browse the network. After you have found the correct path click OK and then OK again. You can now search your NAS for movies, series and other data. Chapter 6. Updates All updates are completely automated, there is nothing you need to do. Chapter 7. Switching on and off The media player does not have a hardware on/off switch. Switching on and off is done the oldfashioned way by inserting or removing the plug into or from the mains outlet. Note that the system has to be switched off via software first, using the system off function on the XBMC home screen before you pull the plug! To turn the system back on just plug it back in. Or you can just leave the media player switched on, the power consumption is very low. This is the recommended way, since it will then always be up to date and ready for use. Chapter 7.1. Enabling Adult add-ons The adult add-ons are disabled by default. Below is the description of how these add-ons can be enabled. Go to System and subsequently to settings, then to Add-ons, now you can select to download add-ons and then video add-ons. Select the desired add-on and then download. - Fantastic - Beeg - Lubetube - Tube 8 - Videodevil - YouYizz.com After downloading and installing these add-ons can be found under Videos and then add-ons in the main menu. Chapter 8. Solving problems Possible problems and solutions: Your movie does not start, there is no error message, but nothing at all happens: Probably the server which contains the movie has reached its maximum capacity. Try again at a later time or select a different source. Sometimes the system is slow to react. You click on something but nothing appears to happen.
Patience is appropriate here. Clicking again will load the system even more and the action will be carried out again. Your media player responds very slowly after starting up. It is possible the the media player is downloading and installing an update of an XBMC program. This is done automatically in the background. With a large update your system can slow down for a short time, as soon as the update is complete everything will run normally again. Should you get a script failure message in Genesis, or one that cannot be blamed on your device, then try it again or otherwise at a later time. With other problems and hangups it can be helpful to pull the plug from the mains outlet, wait a few seconds and plug it back in. It can happen that your media player hangs occasionally. In many cases the problem is with the server on the internet when something doesn't work properly. It is not a problem with your device and usually the problem will resolve itself. Your subtitles or sound are not synchronous with the picture. For this refer to chapters 4.1 and 4.2 in the manual. If you are convinced that your XBMC software doesn't work any more then you can order a new SD card and USB stick with the most recent XBMC configuration.
