Ah a little over five years. And your hours of work; what are they? It s ah we get there about 8:20; Monday through Friday and leave at five, Monday through Friday. Alright. Well the time frame that we re looking at is ah between July 25 th and July 29 th that ah we re ah wanting to talk to you about some events that took place. Ah were you working on July 25 th ah that would have been a Monday? Yes. Ah anything particular about that mor morning when you get to your office what took place? Mmm Mister Olin; Mister Kenny and Mister Lawson were in Mister Olin s office already with the door closed meeting. Do you know what that meeting was about? No whenever I got there I just know that they were in there. Ah about how long did they stay in there; in your presence? Mmm see I get there like at 8:20; maybe like another fifteen or twenty minutes cause I remember we re waiting for them to ah to be done so we could rearrange our parking. Alright. Tammy and Mister Olin. Okay so they; it was just a courtesy make copies for him? Yeah. Yeah nothing. That was to recall ah Vessel and Mister Lacombe. Okay so you pretty much up to the current events of the Gonzales politics? A little bite; I try not to get involved. No they had their meeting and then ah they left. You didn t think nothing of it; didn t know or hear anything? No; Mmm-mm. Nope; there was no discussion in the office between Tammy or Olin about what that was all about? Mmm well no Mister Olin had did explained that ah Mister Lawson that he didn t have a job so they were gonna try and help him out with something with the parish and they had left an envelope for entry fee and the application and stuff in the folder and it said that; Mister Lawson is gonna come by later that week and pick it up. No that was after they left. So after Lawson and and Matassa left ah Mister Berthelot came out and told this to who? Mmm Is this something you over heard or is this a conversation you were engaged with Tammy and Mister Olin? No I think ah it probably happen between Mister Olin and Tammy; I either over heard it or Tammy came up later said; you know this is what this is so if he comes by just give it to him. And explain to us what you were; what what Tammy had in her hand. It would be the ah the folder that had the application and then she told me about the entry fee was we didn t keep in the folder because it was money so we kept it with our regular cash draw so we put it away at night. Describe the folder; what it looked like? It s ah legal size ah manila folder. They had anything written on that? Mmm what did it say on it. Yeah it says ah something written on it. The affidavit. And did you see the affidavit? I did; I didn t read it but I know it was filled out. And do you recall any information that might have been on it? Not at that time but later in the week I had to refill out another one because the date was already written on the original one so I had to refill it out but leave the date blank. So so so when you first saw these documents that Tammy brought in that was Monday; the 25 th after the ah the meeting between the three? Yeah I think it was that day probably. Right; no since it was cashed we kept it with our cash draw so we would put it up at night. Would that be the cash draw that Tammy showed me yesterday which is kind of where your name plate is? Yeah. Mmm-mm. Okay and so there any other wha any other contents when you first saw the envelope? Anything else in that in that in that folder? No. Okay and later; well we re get that. She probably had it put it to to the folder to the side and said like; we gonna keep this with the cash cause we don t want it to get lost. Earlier you said that Olin keeps documents like that ah application to withdrawal there because he s a notary; has he ever done that before? Mmm-mm. No. It s not a general affidavit? Well. Or is it specific; he keeps like general affidavits. Well let s just back up a minute; you tell me about this discussion about the envelope and the folder; what do you what your understanding what s going on at the point? What what did what what is what is being what information being couvade by Olin Berthelot to to you or to Tammy or what you heard him talk to Tammy? What s your impression? At that point it was ah I understood it that Mister Lawson didn t have a job or he was like; only running for a position, like just for a jobs so they gonna help him out. So then we re go forward; that was Monday and then when was the next time that you saw either Kenny or Mister Lawson come to the office? Mmmm I don t think I remember seeing Mister Kenny at all but that s what I was saying I don t remember who dropped off the application but was it Mister Kenny or if it was somebody else but Mister Lawson wasn t until that Friday morning. So when were; so that s next time you saw him was Friday morning? Mister Lawson. Okay and what happen Friday morning? Mmm okay. Me and Tammy are already at work. About what time did you get there? Ah so I get there at like 8:20; Tammy was already there. Mmm I don t remember; I m trying to think it was around like ten something or ten that Miss Christy had came in. She was the first person to arrive and they were waiting for Mister Lawson to come in cause Mister Olin was away at ah Finance Conference so he called us to let us know there gonna be coming by and sss since Christy was there we was talking to Olin saying that he ll Mister Lawson is not here yet so he said; Okay well let me call him! I don t know it s; I mean ever since like those copies from way back whenever it s just the, I don t know the way he carries himself and talks to you kind of cranky whatever but mmm I m trying to remember the first thing that he said. I don t mean to interrupt you cause you brought something to my attention a while ago and I don t want to mess you Sure. Up on your time line but you said that ah that withdrawal; that affidavit for withdrawal you had to change the date so you had to retype it at one point. I rewrote it mmm Because it had a ah ah date on it prior to? Right it had And what was that date? It had the mmm Monday s date; the 25 th. Okay and so was something supposed to happen that Monday with that affidavit is the reason they had that date on it? Not that I knew at that point I mean heard the video recordings. Mmmm I don t think so; I don t think so, I think the first time that we took the folder out was once Mister Lawson s there. Okay so he gets there and what happens? I know you said he makes you nervous but ah what happens? Mmm he walks in comes up the counter ah I don t remember what he said but just as for his like actions ah Tammy hands him either the application or the affidavit first; I don t remember which, I think it was the affidavit and then he asked for the other form which was the application. Either way one one and then the other and then ah and he he s talking kind of exaggeratedly so he s you know trying to ask like you know something else ah he kind of asked a couple of times and Tammy was like; yeah there s another envelope and he ask to see that so they give him that and he take out the money and counts it and exaggeratedly a few times ah ask Miss Christy to stand up and count it with him; no he wanted Tammy to count it and she didn t want to and then it was something like he just wanted Christy just kind of watch him count it. At some point they are trying to give give his ID and he kept kind of kind of you know pushing it off cause ever notary has to have you know the driver s license. Well I m back you up just a minute. Before Mister Lawson and Christy gets there or maybe in between the two did anybody else ever show up to your office? The Whitney envelope. And that s the money your saying he counted? He counted; right. So he counts that money; what happens after he counts this money? Ah he ask Christy to watch him count it and asked for her full name; he tries to get her to go outside with him which I found was very odd and you can tell she didn t want to but he was like you know money is serious busy and she was like; okay just you know one second. So he did go out and she was telling me that Wade Petite was out there; she s like you know who Wade Petite is, I was I didn t know who he was at the moment. Mmm and she was telling me that s the Man that you know has been trying to get Kenny or doesn t like Kenny or you know something along those lines. I was like; Oh you know! So she didn t never go outside and ah then Tammy showed her way out the back to leave. And why was that? Did you but in your mind what did you think was going on; I know you say it was tense but what did you think was going on at that point you you see money, you you have these documents there, what did you feel like was going on? I guess I didn t know what to think; like it was strange that he was so focused on reading the affidavit out loud and counting the money, so exaggeratedly, it was just like I didn t know what but it was just like off, I don t know, like not ah even when act like that if you know it s just you know. So are you saying that you found the actions of Lawson to be out of unusual? Yeah. So okay so ah ah I understand that so tell me do you think the whole exchange was unusual I think is that what Yes. What Right. Mike was trying to say did did you ah wha you know look at the big picture what was going on did that appear out of the out of the ordinary to you? Like if I take his actions out I would have probably wouldn t have thought anything of it; like if it was somebody else that I was comfortable with you know I probably would of. Mmm-mm. And Lawson comes there; looks at the documents, ask for the envelope, gets the envelope, counts the money out. Mmm-mm. And that just exchange; forget how loud he was carrying and all that did and if not then at least in retro respect does that seem a little out of the ordinary of the standard business practice of that office on a daily basis. When you saw all this stuff that was ah presented through Pelican Post and you look back of all that did you have a different take of what was going on or what ah happen? Well right I mean cause we never knew what that original meeting was ah that Monday so your like; you know like what in the world and you know you getting mad cause it all is happen like at Bayou Financial like; I don t want anything to do with anything and What do you feel like happen ah with ah think with s asking you; now that you read everything in your opinion what did you feel that took place there that day. Well right I mean it makes you think like; well did he really try and sss I mean bribe or whatever and then you re like; well Who? Like you wonder if ah Olin and Kenny tried bribing him but I mean it s like; Why would they do that? I mean it doesn t make sense to do it because as I understand Mister Lawson traveling in the pass and he hasn t been successful and then me knowing a couple of meeting I ve had with him like I didn t see how the public would want to vote for him and stuff so it s like; Why would they it should make sense to do that mmm especially since Neal he s come by the office you know a few times and I know him and he s so like personable and you know I just never thought he would have had a chance to win so Being that you brought his name up; Neal ah Bourque. No; not that I can recall. And the the meeting that they had about Save Gonzales was this prior to Kenny Matassa being elected? Yes. Yeah that was before. When Mister Lawson goes outside then he comes back in mmm just kind of get back on track; what took place? Was there mmm any other discussions with him ah or did Tammy do anything? Ah he ended up leaving the mmm the money envelope and the folder and I don t remember how the conversation ended up closing out other than I remember the last thing he said was that he was going to go home to get his ID because it was not in his truck. I m back back you up for just a second. When he s counting the money at the counter. Mmm-mm. Did he ever ask any specific questions concerning the money? Yeah he did say you know this is not supposed to be nine hundred it s supposed to be twelve; at that point we remember that we had the ah a hundred and fifty entry fee like was in the ca file with the cash draw so we handed him that; and he s like well that s still not twelve hundred and Tammy was like, Okay well we can cut you a check for the difference and he was like well I don t want to except checks and she was like Was there anybody a part of that conversation? Mister Olin s been talking to us over the phone back and forth. So they were back; who who talked to him on the phone? Mmm he s talked to both us but at that During that during that exchange? We was like; yeah he s now. Mmm I don t remember anything else really for me; Tammy talked to him a few times; I think he he kept asking for Tammy to talk. Mister Olin did? Right. Mmm-mm. So I guess he was you know taught her you know whatever I guess with the money and stuff. I think that is whenever he had told her to just you know cut her cut him a check for whatever the difference is but we never did write out a check. I think ah at some point after that Mister Lawson had you know put everything back on the counter; ended up leaving. What happen to that folder at that point? We ended up just either putting it on the desk or on the filing cabinets behind us. And what happen to that; that was last ah Friday the ah 29 th so what happen to that folder since then? We had kept it by our mmm I guess some; we had two printers we kept it by the colored printer we had behind there and it had sat there for a week. The money envelopes were in that folder to? But at some point and we know that Mister ah if ah I think your aware yesterday that Mister Berthelot brought the envelope back to us when we were at your office. Yeah. Okay so my question me is mmm did you see when the money got put back in the envelope and Mister Berthelot left with it? You recall that transpiring? Like the money wasn t in the envelope anymore? I m sorry; the folder let me clarify this with you. The folder with the documents. Yeah. Were kept near the printer and the filing cabinet? Yeah. But you said that after Mister Lawson left and the days had fallen; the money the envelope with the hundred a fifty dollars in it and then the the Bayou Financial envelope and the Whitney envelope was kept in the money draw? Oh mmm well he didn t come back to the office you know obviously because he told us that his lawyer told him to mmm not be in Gonzales for a few days so he his first day back was; what s today? Today s Tuesday; it s like Friday or Friday or Thursday was his first day back and ah no he said his his lawyers told him to you know not to talk about anything and so he has us in his office and he was apologizing for putting us in the middle of any of this stuff and Do you felt when he ask you and then tells you that he apologizing do you feel like; why he s asking you and telling you that; Hey I apologize! Well cause I mean they they been having like reporters calling and mmm I guess he knew that you know this; the Friday incident was ah a tense and with like Wade Petite and all the stuff from like at that point you know the media had come out and put like Bayou Financial all over the place and you know he was I understood as he felt really bad that it was put in you know the business involved and this stuff and I mean we were concerned that you know it might affect the business so he was saying like he was sorry for getting in all that involved like he didn t know why he had Bayou Financial involved with anything, like the location. He he said that; he don t? No. Oh. But that s how I interrupted it to apology. Did he say why his lawyer wanted to lay down for a couple of days; can you explain that? And just so I understand it is Donna part owner of Ascension and Credit? Mmmm I think I think she is; we have mmm we have twenty four offices and there are some that are twenty five percent owners, she might be one. I don t remember but I think so.
